During an interview Wednesday on NPR’s “Morning Edition,” Whole Foods CEO John Mackey said President Barack Obama’s health care overhaul is like “fascism.”

Mackey was clarifying on a comment he made back in 2009 when he said “Obamacare” was a form of “socialism” in an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal.

“Technically speaking, it’s more like fascism. Socialism is where the government owns the means of production. In fascism, the government doesn’t own the means of production, but they do control it — and that’s what’s happening with our health care programs and these reforms.”

Mackey isn’t the first CEO to speak out against Obamacare, which will increase costs for businesses across the United States.

Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz told the Seattle Times last year that the “pressure on small businesses, because of the mandate, is too great.”

Aetna CEO Mark Bertolini said health insurance premiums would likely double due to Obamacare. In December, Cheesecake Factory CEO David Overton said Obamacare “will be very costly,” causing businesses to raise prices or cheapen their product.

Papa John’s CEO John Schnatter has also slammed Obama’s Affordable Care Act. He says he plans to raise prices and cut employee hours because of the Obamacare. Other restaurants like Wendy’s and Taco Bell have announced similar plans to cut employee hours.

  Obama admitted he’s a corporatist. Corporatism, like fascism doesn’t abolish institutions. Fascists didn’t ban Christian churches or private corporations they co-opted them to compromise and control them.   Here’s the deal: in 2009, when we still had yet to “read the bill to find out what is in it,” it did sound a lot like Socialism; where the government actually took ownership of the healthcare system. Now that we’ve had a couple of years to read the bill and we now know that the industry is left (for the most part) in private hands with near total control being exerted by the government, we now know that in fact, it’s closer to Fascism.
  
  Funny thing: Once you understand this, you really see how close the Progressives on both sides are to Fascism (and how far the Libertarian Right is from it) .
  
  You know? It’s funny: it’s almost like I’ve heard someone at some point saying Fascism, Socialism, and Communism are all banches off the same tree- the roots of which were late 19th and early 20th Century Progressivism.

  I do have one near me and cannot stand to go in there.
  The place is filled with Young Urban Professionals and retired, white Obama voters wearing Pony tails, Birkenstocks and tie-dye.
  They all ooze an air of smug self satisfaction because they fancy themselves the Green High Priests and Priestesses of the Church of Save the Planet.
  They disgust me to the extent that I cannot bear to be in there for more than a minute.
  Plus, Whole Foods prices are outrageous.

  We shop at Whole Foods regularly. To those posting about the employees and the prices. Have you looked at the employees at any grocery. As to the prices, a little higher, but when you start learning what is being put in the food supply (GMO,pesticides etc…) you start realizing that a little higher price is nothing. As a matter of fact , we find that the organic foods keep us full much longer, taste better and we eat less, so cost is mitigated.

  I have to agree with Rian, I work in the healthcare industry and I can tell you cuts are everywhere, including physician fee schedules, employee hours, higher insurance premiums. Hospitals are laying people off left and right, most of these hospitals are union by the way.
  Do get an appt. with a specialist or even a new PCP, its a 4-6month wait, that’s insane. More and more people on Welfare (Medicaid) and they don’t pay squat, the physicians and hospitals lose a ton of money. My manager in fact slipped up the other day and called it Obamacare, laughed my **** off.

When I attended my first Tea Party rally on April 15th, 201 I made a sign that read: “The Road to Fascism is paved with Government interventions.” I had it in DC on 9/12. I think we have progressed, not tongue in cheek or evolved as Carney-val might say to a new form of egalitarian government. It is the spawn of marxism plus fascism. I think it should be called corporatism.
Government passes rules and regulations written by the lobbyists of the various interest groups to enhance profits and restrict or eliminate competition. In return the corporations and/or unions fund re-elections.
This process will continue to cycle until the economy runs out of juice. Then,these entities will turn to feed on each other.

Every new move he makes is right out of Alinsky’s tactics. And everyone keeps falling for it.

Have you ever noticed that many of the “rules for radicals” are very childlike, in the way children can gang up on another kid, and bully them – almost for sport? Alinsky was smart, but a very screwed up organic matter breathing vessel……(can’t bring my self to classify him as a human).

Alsinky: Vindictive, angry and vicious. So too, is obloomers, Alinsky student and later teacher of the same “rules”.

King zero gets off on making people bend to his ways. His basic tenets are rooted in marxism, YES. But his “fun” – his drug – is to make everyone dance to his tune.

Note the only time our dear leader has shown frustration is when he does NOT get his way.

  It does go back to the late 1800′s, early 1900′s. Woodrow Wilson got the Federal Reserve implemented while Congress was orecessed during Christmas,1912. He also got the Tax Act going. It started out on those with inherited wealth (income was considered unearned) dems whizzed right on to tax wages. The list goes on ad nauseum. Get Beck’s book “Cowards”. There needs to be a law passed that require FULL BACKGROUND CHECKS ON ALL POLITICIANS and ALL THEIR RECORDS RELEASED.

the Affordable Care Act is designed to collapse the insurance industry so it will go into a single payer system then medicare/medicaid and veterans care will all be combined in one big system and all doctors and nurses and hospitals will be unionized. That’s how it is designed to FAIL. Then they can implement the “whole lives system” eugenics. Most people will be on some kind of drugs and a panel of bureaucrats will decided if you fit in the “live” category. They will know everything about you mentally and physically and then watch the laws they will pass. They will also have all peoples DNA…and where it goes from there is sickning just to think about.   The Whole Foods CEO says that a requirement to provide employees with healthcare insurance is “fascism?” This strikes me as fishy. Regardless of his personal opinion, the majority of Whole Foods customers are probably liberal, at least that’s my guess having shopped at Whole Foods in two different cities. That’s a guess but I’m just talking here. I don’t know why any CEO would take positions on controversial issues, unless they believe that by doing that they’ll increase sales. I wonder how his employees feel, given the success and profits Whole Foods has, hearing the CEO of their company say he doesn’t think they deserve health insurance.
  
  Regardless, this CEO must be smart enough to know that every other industrialized democratic country of the good earth has universal health care. So all Democracies on Earth are “fascist?”
  
  Words lose all meaning when you start calling all westernized democracies “fascist” or “communist” because they provide for their poor and low wage workers or have a progressive tax system.

  @sendthemeteors, doesn’t the fact that CEO’s are speaking out against this law and putting their business at risk tell you that something is majorly wrong with the law? There are better ways to help the poor than to allow our government to have more control over us. By the way, America is not a westernized democracy as your silver pony-tail professors would have you believe. We are a constitutional republic. Our constitution was set up to PREVENT the government from having too much control of our lives. Read your history, any time a fascist government took control, they initiated the control by convincing the people they were here to help and offered up some “free” stuff. A lot of folks with good intentions and utopian fantasies are going to learn a hard lesson if they don’t snap out of this love spell the progressives have cast on them.

  Fellas, I, and probably most people are tired of people saying, “we’re not a Democracy, we’re a Constitutional Republic” as though that were a smart ripost to anyone who refers to the United States as a “Democracy.”
  
  Now, if you were to say “under a Democratic government X would be the case, but under a Constitutional Republic Y is the case,” I might think you have some intelligence. But I don’t see that. What I see is the Pavlovian knee-jerk reaction to the word Democracy -> no, we’re not a Democracy.
  
  What would convince me further that you have any concept at all about forms of government would be if you could distinguish between a “Constitutional Republic” and communism. Or fascism, or socialism or monarchy or a dictatorship or whatever you you call the present administration, one which couldn’t pass a bill to save it’s life, including providing help to the victims of hurricane Sandy. Some dictatorship!
  
  No, invoking the phrase “Constitutional Republic” for the millionth time on this website doesn’t impress me or make you sound smart. Sorry.

  I consider it very telling, that the same Congress that cannot seem to get anything done, sends bills which injure our rights and our Constitution right on through to the President’s desk for signing.
  
  You’d think *those* would be the bills that take longest to pass, because there would be vigorous debate. Well, you’d be wrong. If it’s meaningless junk, they’ll squabble about it forever. If it’s meaningful, it invariably passes right on through with unassailable majorities in both houses, to our great detriment.

  Provide for the poor yourself. Stop using gov’t to take what I earned and give to someone else so YOU can feel good about you. That is stealing, regardless of legality, because YOU decided it needed to spent that way instead of me using it to buy myself whatever I want. Setup an insurance company and lose money providing for the poor who can’t afford it instead of FORCING others to do it.
  
  I didn’t call a name, and you insult the intelligence of people like me regularly. Since you are so much smarter than me, tell me which of these statements is wrong about you.
  
  You want single payer/universal healthcare.
  You want federal gov’t heavily regulating talk radio, internet, and other media.
  You want federal gov’t in control of schools.
  You want a heavy progressive income tax, after all the rich have enough.
  You want an inheritance tax, high as possible, especially for the really wealthy.
  You want heavy gov’t regulation of credit markets, ie bank loans, credit cards, etc.
  You want heavy gov’t regulation of industry, ie no more fracking, epa approval of projects, etc.
  
  How many more planks of communism do you want implemented? Just answer that question, I know from you previous posts, you want at least 3 that are already implemented, and before you mock and ridicule, I do know the universal healthcare isn’t one of the planks. That was from Lenin himself.

Fascism or Socialism or Communism it still is, like Obama himself, an clear and present danger to the freedoms we have in the nation. Obama has crossed the Rubicon and now there will be no going back for either side, we win or he wins – it is that simple.
