WASHINGTON (AP) — Three days after six teachers and 20 students were killed by a rampaging gunman at their elementary school in Newtown, Conn., an 8-year-old from Maryland pulled out a sheet of paper and asked President Barack Obama for “some changes in the laws with guns.”

“It’s a free country but I recommend there needs (to) be a limit with guns,” Grant wrote in a letter dated Dec. 17. “Please don’t let people own machine guns or other powerful guns like that.”

In the days after the shooting, children around the country had the same idea as Grant. They put their feelings about the massacre on paper and sent those letters to a receptive White House.

“I am writing to ask you to STOP gun violence,” wrote Tajeah, a 10-year-old from Georgia. “I am very sad about the children who lost their lives. So, I thought I would write to you to STOP gun violence.”

On Wednesday, when Obama makes his long-awaited announcement of proposals to reduce gun violence, he will be joined by Grant, Tajeah and other children from across the U.S. who expressed their concerns about gun violence and school safety to the one person they think can make a difference: the president.

The White House shared three such letters with The Associated Press, from young writers who seemed to agree that Obama should do what’s necessary to make it harder for people to get guns.

Obama has spoken in favor of banning assault-style weapons, limiting high-capacity ammunition magazines and requiring background checks for every gun buyer.

On the other side of the issue, the National Rifle Association, the powerful lobbying group for gun owners, views any effort to limit access to guns as an infringement on the Second Amendment right to bear arms and has pledged to fight attempts by Congress to enact new restrictions.

Second Amendment. Right to bear arms. Lobbying group. None of that was mentioned in any of the letters, scribbled in the rough penmanship of children.

Eleven-year-old Julia, who lives in the District of Columbia and dotted the “I” in her name with a heart, wrote that she has four brothers and sisters and “I know I would not be able to bear the thought of losing any of them.” She said it should be “very hard” for people to buy guns and closed by acknowledging that Obama can’t do it alone.

“I know that laws have to be passed by Congress but I beg you to try very hard to make guns not allowed. Not just for me, but for the whole United States,” Julia wrote, signing the letter with “my love and regrets.” She will also be at the White House on Wednesday.

The White House did not release last names for any of the letter writers, or hometowns for Grant and Tajeah.

    I didn’t know that little Johnny and Janey cared so much about politics. Oh yeah, they don’t. But their liberal mommies and daddies, along with their teachers (backed by the unions of course) do. And we all know how the little tykes just love to get that happy face sticker when they do what they’re told.

    It’s either that, or a time out for disobedience for not writing their Obama letters. Seems to me that liberals and terrorists have another thing in common…Hiding behind children. How courageous.

      Was this a government school or a private school? A government school is a gun free area that produces the workers and peons of the world and if they are done in they won’t be missed.. A private school has armed body guards in the class room to protect the future presidents, bankers, lawyers. and CEOS.

      I believe the term is “Human Shield” Sadamn Hussien used it to shield his political and military structures from allied bombing.

      In the same way Obama is using children to shield his evil, and unconstitutional policies from bombardment from the right. It is his hope that the faces and voices of these “innocent” children will shame his critics into silence, because only a truly evil man would shout critical words to these beautiful innocents who by virtue of nothing more than location, avoided a bloody massacre by a gun wielding mad man!!

      I would love to see a reporter go to the schools where these letters come from and inquire with both the students and the teachers to see who really put the text on the chalk board! Of course you-know-who would just issue an executive order stopping any such interviews like on all his background records. ;)

These parents along with Odummy should be taken out into the street and horse whipped and then the children taken away from them because it is obvious they are too stupid to have children put in their care.

      Is anyone here old enough to remember the Catholic School campaigns to get the sitcom “SOAP” off of the air? Word for word from the board, we had to write over and over again we hated a show that had yet to come out. Many of us, on the back of our letters, sent Chinese Prisoner messages that we were forced to write the letters.
      I guess the liberals caught onto the back of the letter counter campaign, or now, just bully kids too young to think of doing it.
      Wait til those children develop a mind of their own. Their mothers are going to hate them.

      Kids that write things like this should be taken aside and taught about the importance of guns. The fact that children are scared of guns just goes to show that they haven’t been educated on the subject, nor on gun safety, nor on personal responsibility.

      They’re more likely to be raped than murdered, so maybe they should be writing Obama and ask if he can outlaw balls and pen*ses.

    I find it ironic how Obama uses children much like Adolph Hitler did in Nazi Germany. In fact, history teaches us that all Tyrants have used children as symbolism to push their propaganda. I’m just amazed how quickly this Country has fallen. No coincidence that I’m currently reading Gibbon’s “The Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire”. The parallels are amazing.       I think all the “children” (I don’t even buy that all these letters were written by children with the prodding of the parents / teachers .. they may have used a child’s name but they were written by the adults just the same) of people who SUPPORT the Constitution need to write letters and send them … heck my DOG supports the Constitution (she is very smart) her letter would be just as relevant as these from “the children”.

      They have always exploited children to further their agenda. Remember the Clinton era we were always hearing, ‘It’s for the children” I got so freaking tired of hearing that. It’s all smoke and mirrors folks. They started our 2nd civil war when Obama got elected. Everything from this admin has been to cast blame and doubt on people that don’t agree with them. They have escalated class warfare. They have been dividing us through psychological warfare. My fear is that it is escalating past the phase of psychological warfare. Their propaganda is no longer working. Look how many people are buying guns and ammo. Why? Because they know what is coming next. Just look at history. What the regime is doing is by the numbers text book stuff for them. This is their final push to get us into one world government. And if you have studied end time prophecies then you know it is what will happen whether it is now or 20 years from now it will happen and Georgie boy himself said America is what is standing in the way. This is their move to take us down and accomplish their goal. At the same time it is sad for me to see where they are taking the country I love, it is also very confirming seeing the biblical prophecies coming to fruition. It’s what keeps me focused or I’d go nuts wondering why this is happening. God wins in the end. I hope many others will see that as well and turn to Christ. He is our comfort and salvation and the time is short.

    Well, Blaze reader parents – I see a letter writing campaign in our future. Time for us to assist our kids in writing letters to the president and copy the local newspaper with letters to the editor, post on face book etc.

    It can be a civics lesson for homeschoolers and those trying to counter the govt indoctination centers that pose as public schools

      Are we so dumbed down that anyone believes these children actually in the own words sent letter to the president? These letters do not appear to be age appropriate. Come on America wake up!

    “Please don’t let people own machine guns” OK kid, your wish is granted. They were prohibited in the 1934 The National Firearms Act. Tell the liberal teacher or parent that coerced you into writing the POTUS to find out what the existing gun laws are before they pander for new ones.

    I tried to post something like this last night, but the liberal trolls who work at the BLAZE knocked it offline. I will try again this morning. Last night’s first attempt was funnier. This one is not.

    In all time I taught school, not once, at no time, did I ever see any one teacher or a group of teachers nor did I myself, have to shove, push, coerce students to leave campus. Never once did we as teachers have to lock away paper and pen to keep the students from writing rather than playing after school because they were sooooo concerned about any issue outside their own personal world. Children and kids PLAY because that’s what they do.

    This whole charade by the current liar-in-chief is an outrage.

    It would be interesting to know how many of these letters were generated as class projects in schools. I am betting the vast majority of them. The teachers unions certainly do not want resistance…

      I agree with you. That letter by 8 year old Grant doesn’t sound like a letter an 8 year old would write. I have an eight year old nephew. He knows nothing nor has any opinions about guns.

      This whimp is unbelievable .. And he’s the the one who whines about getting personal .. He is getting in our faces with our kids whom he has saddled with so much debt they can never pay it back ..Wake up folks it is Germany in the 30′s ..
