The Texas lawmaker who vowed to protect his state from gun control measures enacted by President Barack Obama had a fiery clash with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer Wednesday over the issue of background checks.
Steve Toth, who said he plans to introduce the “Firearms Protection Act” banning federal gun bans, said Texas is going to ensure that “we follow the United States Constitution.
“If this government infringes on our Second Amendment right which gives us the right not only to bear arms but tells the government, the federal government, not to create any laws that infringes on those rights, we will do everything we can to push back against that,” Toth said.
Blitzer asked Toth whether he was talking about a possible effort to secede from the United States, to which Toth answered no. “I’m pretty sure that’s not what this discussion is about,” Toth said.
Instead, he brought up the New York firefighters shot to death while responding to a fire on Christmas Eve by a man previously convicted of murdering his grandmother with a hammer.
“If we want to get serious about limiting violent crime in America we’ve got to look at mental health issues and we’ve got to look at punish people who commit violent crimes and when they commit violent crimes they’ve got to go to jail and stay in jail,” Toth said. “Let’s get serious about this.”
When Toth said Republicans have for years called for instant background checks, Blitzer asked the representative if he supports universal background checks on all gun transactions.
“No I don’t,” Toth said. “At gun shows, online…we’ve got the technology online, because if I want to sell a gun — ”
“What if some crazy guy…wants to go to a gun show?” Blitzer said. “He can go buy a gun.”
“First off, that hasn’t happened,” Toth declared. “If you look at that guy in upstate, he stole his gun.”
“But he could, technically, if there’s no background check, if he had a criminal record, he can go to a gun show and he can buy a gun without a background check,” Blitzer said. “Technically, that’s obviously possible.”
Toth said we should “stop dealing with the hypothetical and start dealing with reality,” but Blitzer continued to press the point.
“Right now, you can be on the no-fly list, you’re not allowed to board a plane, but you can go to a gun show and buy a gun. Is there a contradiction there?”
“Wolf, show me one — one time one of these criminals has gone to a gun show and committed a crime,” Toth said.

If you live in Texas very soon you will be able to get a permit and carry a Concealed Weapon in your classroom.

Maybe, just maybe the teacher is a former Marine, that is highly trained in the proper use of firearms. I personally would like to see that teacher be armed with a concealed pistol. This pistol would NEVER leave his personal control while he is in that school. At no time would the students have any access, or possibly even knowledge of the firearm. I would feel very secure knowing that my child is in his class, and being protected by him and his skill.

His comments seemed very reasonable to me. Wolf is one of the old liberal elite. Jan. 17, 2013 at 2:07pm@HypnoToad – Police training is mandatory however occurrs only several times a year and consists of shooting your gun at targets. No training on dealing with hostage situations etc. I know because I took a pistol course recently from the trainer of the police who was a policeman himself. He used a video of a semi-circle of policemen shooting at an armed man that shot back. Everyone of them emptied their clips and only one hit the thief with an accidental ricochet from the asphalt in the shin. Anyone in the military (and I am retired military) will tell you no one knows how they’ll respond in this situation. So the teacher stands as much chance as defending themselves and the kids as anyone else does. I suspect you don’t shoot but I don’t know that. Do you shoot?

You make a lot of assumptions here.
1) Why is he untrained? Many Marines attend college after their enlistment and go on to teach. One of my HS teachers was in the SEAL teams for 14 years. Even if they weren’t combat soldiers, or even in the military, very advanced and high quality training is available to the general public.
2) Shooting wildly? Every class room I have ever been in in my entire life, grade school through college had the entrance at the front of the room by the teachers desk, if the teach was to open fire on a shooter they would be pointing their weapon 90 degrees away from any students. Further, most gun owners would hold their fire if children were in the way, and would never “shoot wildly”. Saying otherwise shows you don’t know very many gun owners, or that much about firearms.
3) “Great option”. So having an unarmed teacher die first, they have the whole classroom of students slaughtered is a good outcome in your mind?

So a teacher who wishes to protect children from harm and is willing to risk dying in the process is a “fanatic” and “dangerous”? How so?

1st – Dial 911 on your cell phone and wait for the 911 operator to take your call.
2nd – Ask the 911 operator how long will it take for the police to get to your place of work which is the school.
3rd – Tell the armed intruder that the police will be here in # of minutes given to you by the operator.
4th – Now it is time for you to use your own survivor personality and top survivor strengths to negotiate carefully with the armed intruder to put the gun down. . . you and you students survive without bloodshed.
If 4th does not work … hopefully you will have your concealed-carry weapon on your person to use as a last resort to take the armed intruder down if he does not surrender his weapon to you.

No Federal executive order or law would prevent this from happening. Why? The elitist compromise with evil … evil triumphs over good. Evil have more rights over Good. Evil wins. (It’s a win-win for evil.) It’s a win-win for criminals since good law abiding citizens are not allow to have a gun to protect themselves and their property…you are now a crime victim and the children in your classroom are also crime victims.

Answer: Do nothing. Before the armed intruder can enter the classroom you are teaching in will be stopped by The President’s Daughter’s armed bodyguard who is on guard outside your classroom door. You are safe and the classroom full children are safe.

One of our founding fathers, Thomas Jefferson makes the case 250 years ago… and it still rings true today. It’s not the law abiding gun owners that need regulated. When the majority of these mass shootings include mentally unstable people, many who have been taking drugs (you know the kind that show up on commercials warning about ‘possible suicidal behavior’????) you think it takes a major leap to put 2 and 2 together? Jan. 16, 2013 at 8:57pmI would like to see an amendment to any gun control bill put forth include a requirement that all federal law enforcement agencies only be authorized to use the same weapons, magazines and ammo that is allowed for civilian use. Bottom line is that federal law enforcement agencies are not the military and the left has made it clear that military styled weapons have no place off the battle field. Bet that would go over good….
Using the gun control mindset, if assault weapons and high capacity magazines are banned the crooks will not have them, therefore the Feds do not need high capacity magazines or fully automatic weapons to enforce the law or protect politicians.

You are either ignorant or that is a bold faced LIE. A zygote is when the sperm and egg meet (fertilization) and starts to divide going down the fallopian tubes until it implants on the uterus. It then becomes an embryo. This can take usually around 5 or so days. The woman doesn’t even know she is “pregnant” when it is in the zygote stage you moron.

Aside from thieves now targeting gun owner homes, and also knowing who is potentially unarmed, here is one Reuters quote of the outcome – “Inmates in local prisons have approached guards to say they know their home addresses, Rockland County Sheriff Lou Falco told the news conference”.
But an even worse reason. Checks lead to databases. Databases are registration. Registration precedes Confiscation, and Confiscation precedes genocide. Governments have been responsible for estimates from 170 million – 250 million deaths in the 20th century. This pattern is always there.

The Woodlands is not cheap! All of Texas is hot, hot, hot & some is down right unbearable, like close to the coastline, very sticky humid. East Texas is the best because that is where most of the trees are & is greenest & cooler. Stay away from the big city areas, too much traffic. I live in a small town of 2900, 90 miles south of Dallas & it is very quite & peaceful . But that is my choice. Good hunting!

There are back ground checks at Texas gun shows just as your local gun store. The only time there is not is when an individual is selling a privately owned gun, which is very rare! Answer this question for my husband, ” If I can’t take a gun that I no longer have use for or would prefer something different, If I can’t sell it then did I ever truly own it? I know it has got to be difficult to get everything out you want to say on these shows when the host doesn’t want you to ever make a good point that they can’t argue with so they just keep interrupting to throw you off, but here’s one. If Wolf has issues with Texas not enforcing what could be federal law, then why don’t we just ask them if they have problems with sanctuary cities, states who’ve legalized pot, and same sex marriage states which all go against standing federales laws?

Under the law, no U.S. state or political subdivision is REQUIRED to recognize a same-sex marriage from another state. it doesn’t restrict them from recognizing it if they choose to.
