Top 5 Reactions to President Obama’s Gun Speech

President Obama’s press conference on gun control is barely a day old and already, the reactions have been fierce. Naturally enough, most of the more entertaining reactions have come from the president’s supporters, who, judging by what we’ve seen, seem to think the best way to engage in a level-headed debate is to act as non-level-headed as possible. The following are the top five responses to the President’s proposal.

#5. Toure makes a point. We think.

#4. E.J. Dionne complains about the NRA

Too often, moderation has become a synonym for cowardice. Too often, moderates lack the guts to define the sensible middle of the road themselves — as Obama has done on the gun issue — and then defend it. Instead, they yield to the temptation to calibrate where everyone else stands before deciding what they believe. This allows extremists who lack any shame to drag our discourse off the road entirely, into a ditch of unreason, fear and invective.

After the NRA’s vile new advertisement that uses Secret Service protection for the president’s daughters to make a small-minded political point, can anyone take the organization’s arguments seriously again? Aren’t politicians who continue to bow low before the NRA complicit with a crowd that lacks any sense of decency?

It tells us all we need to know that the gun lobby is deeply afraid of the facts and the evidence. This is why one of the most important actions the president took was to end the ban on research into gun violence by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that the weapons lobby had forced through a compliant Congress.

#3. Bob Schieffer makes odd comparisons

Let’s remember: there was considerable opposition when Lyndon Johnson went to the Congress and…presented some of the most comprehensive civil rights legislation in the history of this country. Most people told him he couldn’t get it done, but he figured out a way to do it. And that’s what Barack Obama is going to have to do…what happened in Newtown was probably the worst day in this country’s history since 9/11. We found Osama bin Laden. We tracked him down. We changed the way that we dealt with that problem. Surely, finding Osama bin Laden; surely, passing civil rights legislation, as Lyndon Johnson was able to do; and before that, surely, defeating the Nazis, was a much more formidable task than taking on the gun lobby.

#2. Piers Morgan is “sick”

The pair of you would like the right to have a tank and you don’t agree with a single–a single one of President Obama’s proposals for gun control. And you know what? It makes me sick when I hear people say that kind of stuff.

#1. Charles Krauthammer points out inconvenient facts

Democrats are going to be the ones who stop this. Harry Reid would like to put the blame on the Republican House. He said he’s not going to present anything to the Senate that won’t actually pass the House which is another way of saying, ‘I don’t want to force Democrats in the Senate who are from red states who are opposing this legislation to make a suicidal vote in support of this if it’s not going to pass.’ It is a Democratic issue, it is a Democratic problem.

I give the president credit for sincerity of this. There’s not a lot of political advantage in this as there is in a lot of other stuff he’s pushing. He didn’t have a plan to do this. This was not what he campaigned on last year, it wasn’t on his agenda. It was, I think, a genuine response to the massacre in Newtown which, I think, moved him.

The problem is he doesn’t know what to do and no one knows what to do. The things he signed today, the executive orders, are useless. It’s the appearance of motion. I think it’s sincere, he wants to do a little at the edges; a little research here, a little encouragement here. But everybody understands it’s not going to make any difference. So, he is saying that the three big items are the ban on assault weapons, on the big magazines and the idea of having the background checks. I think they are not going to pass. I think he will expend some capital, but the country simply isn’t ready to do anything near that.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

Mr. Krauthammer gives the president credit for his sincerity (there is no political advantage with what he demanded). Mr. Krauthammer does not take into consideration that, in presenting this agenda, the administration does not care about political advantage. The administration is blatantly crossing the line of reason, and cares not what our Constitution or Bill or Rights says. That is what dictators do.

Krauthammer is the only one who makes any sense. CBS must be so proud of Scheiffer. One of their star anchors calling several million NRA members Nazis! Just confirms that everything else he said is irrelevant.

I was not aware that Lyndon Johnson passed civil rights legislation. In fact, it was Richard Nixon that got it done with the majority of Democrats voting no… Facts never change…

Toure, let me put it in English: This is not about gun control this is about disarming the population and the elimination of the second amendment (and all the rest soon after). Silliness such as comparing the NRA to Hitler is from the historically uninformed to be distributed to the hysterically uninformed. One of the first moves a tyrant will make is to disarm the population. He will use any convenient excuse. Removing guns from the citizenry was one of the first things Hitler did. What came after that is what is not really taught today. The second amendment is THE bell weather political and social issue today and will continue to be. We lose this and we lose. I think the NRA ad was spot on. In a jarring way it shows Obama’s true heart. In effect, guns for me and none for thee.

I remember a flick where an “Image Consultant” arranged to have a politician who had stolen funds get off by arranging a press conference just like this. He made sure there were kids for the event and even went so far as to arrange the gender and race of the kids to make it seem more diverse for the cameras.

I wonder how long it will take before historians look back and laugh at how so many in the US ignored clear signs of corruption and manipulation, allowing themselves to be played for fools.

The murders at Newton were horrible, almost beyond comprehension, while the murders by abortionists doesn’t seem to even rate mention by the “Lefties”. I wonder how many of those abortions were recommended by Planned Parenthood (subsidized by tax dollars, from our very own government).
I would also guess there were more murders by abortion than all the gun related deaths in my lifetime!

Our president is a constitutional lawyer. Why then is he trying to bypass the states even though the “well regulated” clause clearly designates to the states that responsibility. If he were serious, he would be calling on the individual states to pass gun control measures..
This is what a “real” expert on the US Constitution would be doing.

Bob Sheifer’s lie is incurious. The Money LBJ spent on civil righty,”the war on poverty,” was a complete failure and untold billions were wasted on the social experiment. All it did was force the father out of the house, created equal opportunity which was give preference to lesser qualified member of society and created mediocrity. It also left the more qualified to carry a greater load. The people who benefited most were white women who took advantage of the system and gained a foothold in the work place moved through the ranks with minority status.

It is wrong to make my Dr. ask me if I have a gun in the house, and it is fruther wrong to require me to answer that question. This is why Obummers mandates must go through congress for approval and not on his own. Bon-er demand that his latest demands go through congress, and another thing, I don’t want Reid to only allow some things to go to the senate and not all,,,,,I want to know how my senators would have voted on each and every one of them,,,especially just before the next elections.

I’m sorry but the evidence suggests the contrary. The Secretary of State’s support of the “Small Arms Treaty” at the U.N. last year and operation “Fast and Furious” both suggest that this administration has covertly leveraged ways to disarm Americans. The Newtown shooting is just a convenient tragedy that he cannot let go to waste because it furthers his agenda.

What’s fair for the GOOSE IF FAIR FOR THE GANDER.
We demand to see the Presidents past records, if he thinks it’s fair to pull our background records.
Come forth Obama, and let’s check your records as well.
    Piers Morgan, GO HOME!

If we allow this nonsense “gun laws” we are opening a large area for Obama to remove guns from every American citizen. Obama talks a big game, but the NRA has too much pull to allow him to get away with this. Those congressmen and senators who were elected, have to remember exactly who put them there, and it wasn’t Obama!

Obama will never, and I will say this for the last time, Obama will never get rid of deranged people, or keep them from getting ahold of guns. If they want to get guns, they will find them regardless of any laws made by Obama. He can sign all the Executive orders he wants, but deranged people are sicko’s.

Obama needs to read about Switzerland, and their gun laws. They have less violence then any country in the world. And they have guns!!!!!!!!

Nothing Obama does is out of compassion. Charles Krauthammer is being too generous, saying Obama is acting out of “sincerity because he doesn’t know what else to do.” Obama is using the Marxist playbook–disarm the citizens so they cannot resist a takeover. I don’t believe, as has been suggested, that Obama orchestrated these incidents; I do believe he finds them convenient to his agenda.

I am sick of hearing the left run off at the mouth that we as gun holders do not need an AR. They feel we can protect ourselves and hunt with other types of guns so it is perfectly legal to outlaw AR’s. The left continues to state that nothing in the constitution says we have the right to these types of guns or magazine sizes so by omission they can outlaw them. Let me say I do not own an AR but believe it is my right to own one if I so choose.
I guess if that is there basis for the constitutionality of gun bans then I assume they are in favor of outlawing any and all violent video games and movies. The same material can and often is available in books so there is no need to have it in video and movies correct? I would guess the same holds for the 1st amendment as does with the 2nd with regard to the constitutionality of this. I see nowhere in the constitution the right to violent movies or videos and since the same material can be printed in books it would not be obstructing the freedom of speech or am I wrong. The left had better be careful when they attempt to destroy the 2nd amendment because without it there will be no 1st.

Thomas Jefferson; “When governments fear the people, there is liberty. When the people fear the government, there is tyranny. The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government.”

George Mason: “To disarm the people [is] the best and most effectual way to enslave them.”

Richard Henry Lee: “To preserve liberty, it is essential that the whole body of the people always possess arms, and be taught alike, especially when young, how to use them.”

James Madison: Americans have “the advantage of being armed” — unlike the citizens of other countries where “the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms.”

Prez. Obama continues to say “I” will not take your guns, what he is not saying (at least out loud) He will not stop anyone else for taking them. This is a State issue not a federal one!
