Top 5 Reactions to President Obama’s Gun Speech

President Obama’s press conference on gun control is barely a day old and already, the reactions have been fierce. Naturally enough, most of the more entertaining reactions have come from the president’s supporters, who, judging by what we’ve seen, seem to think the best way to engage in a level-headed debate is to act as non-level-headed as possible. The following are the top five responses to the President’s proposal.

#5. Toure makes a point. We think.

#4. E.J. Dionne complains about the NRA

Too often, moderation has become a synonym for cowardice. Too often, moderates lack the guts to define the sensible middle of the road themselves — as Obama has done on the gun issue — and then defend it. Instead, they yield to the temptation to calibrate where everyone else stands before deciding what they believe. This allows extremists who lack any shame to drag our discourse off the road entirely, into a ditch of unreason, fear and invective.

After the NRA’s vile new advertisement that uses Secret Service protection for the president’s daughters to make a small-minded political point, can anyone take the organization’s arguments seriously again? Aren’t politicians who continue to bow low before the NRA complicit with a crowd that lacks any sense of decency?

It tells us all we need to know that the gun lobby is deeply afraid of the facts and the evidence. This is why one of the most important actions the president took was to end the ban on research into gun violence by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that the weapons lobby had forced through a compliant Congress.

#3. Bob Schieffer makes odd comparisons

Let’s remember: there was considerable opposition when Lyndon Johnson went to the Congress and…presented some of the most comprehensive civil rights legislation in the history of this country. Most people told him he couldn’t get it done, but he figured out a way to do it. And that’s what Barack Obama is going to have to do…what happened in Newtown was probably the worst day in this country’s history since 9/11. We found Osama bin Laden. We tracked him down. We changed the way that we dealt with that problem. Surely, finding Osama bin Laden; surely, passing civil rights legislation, as Lyndon Johnson was able to do; and before that, surely, defeating the Nazis, was a much more formidable task than taking on the gun lobby.

#2. Piers Morgan is “sick”

The pair of you would like the right to have a tank and you don’t agree with a single–a single one of President Obama’s proposals for gun control. And you know what? It makes me sick when I hear people say that kind of stuff.

#1. Charles Krauthammer points out inconvenient facts

Democrats are going to be the ones who stop this. Harry Reid would like to put the blame on the Republican House. He said he’s not going to present anything to the Senate that won’t actually pass the House which is another way of saying, ‘I don’t want to force Democrats in the Senate who are from red states who are opposing this legislation to make a suicidal vote in support of this if it’s not going to pass.’ It is a Democratic issue, it is a Democratic problem.

I give the president credit for sincerity of this. There’s not a lot of political advantage in this as there is in a lot of other stuff he’s pushing. He didn’t have a plan to do this. This was not what he campaigned on last year, it wasn’t on his agenda. It was, I think, a genuine response to the massacre in Newtown which, I think, moved him.

The problem is he doesn’t know what to do and no one knows what to do. The things he signed today, the executive orders, are useless. It’s the appearance of motion. I think it’s sincere, he wants to do a little at the edges; a little research here, a little encouragement here. But everybody understands it’s not going to make any difference. So, he is saying that the three big items are the ban on assault weapons, on the big magazines and the idea of having the background checks. I think they are not going to pass. I think he will expend some capital, but the country simply isn’t ready to do anything near that.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

@sosorryforyou, sorry but you better check historical facts about whom you decide to back up to have the power to decide matters of importance that are detrimental to your health…read this:
And history tells us that the very first people purged by despots who have seized power, are those who helped them seize power. Stalin did it; Lenin did it; Mussolini did it; Hitler also did it.

Why were these the first people to be lined up and executed? Because people who are so easily led, who truly believe in the presumptive cause, are blind to the real agenda of the despot; and once they discover they have been used against their own self-interest, they become the worst enemy of the despot, for there is a very fine line between absolute love and absolute hate. When people figure out they have been used, absolute love turns to absolute hate and these people become very dangerous to the despot. By Lynn Stuter

    2. Buy another crate of .223.
    3. Buy more magazines with highest capacity possible.
    4. Join the NRA.

You can’t predict all situations that may arise and be completely prepared for any possible outcome. That’s not how the world works. Bob Schieffer should put himself in a box hidden where no one will look then he will be safe from the world.

So we’re not “moderates’ because we won’t go along with dismantling the Second Amendment. We’re somehow racists because there was opposition to the Civil Rights Bill proposed by LBJ. And we are illiterate because we don’t understand English. Once again, liberals don’t have any facts so they resort to ad hominum attacks. If being a moderate means we stand by and let the Constitution be dismantled then I am not a moderate. I took an oath to defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic and I take my oath very seriously. Too many people fail to understand that this is just on more step in dismantling of the Bill of Rights. I fail to understand why Democrats opposing the Civil Rights Bill translates into me being opposed to Civil Rights just because I support the Bill of Rights. That is a leap in logic that is breathtaking in its illogic. Perhaps Mr Schieffer nees to take some classes in deputation and logic. Lastly, I am quite conversant in English having attended school when the schools actually taught us how to read and write. I would not have spent most of my adult life serving our country if I had not believed deeply in the Bill of Rights. Over the last several years I have seen an acceleration in the dismantling of the Bill of Rights and more and more people willing to acquiesce in order to feel a little more “safe”. There is an old saying: “I would rather die on my feet then live on my knees”. We have more people willing to live on their kne

Dear Piers Morgan: I encourage you to fly back across “the pond” to your British nation where they have plenty of gun control laws. This is America and we won the Revolutionary War; therefore, your British ideas are not wanted here in America. Go find a job in your own country – or do they not want you either?

Isn’t it interesting how Harry Reid qualifies his statement not to propose legislation that won’t pass-he doesn’t want democrats in Red states to be at risk..lol What’s the matter Harry-might they loose an election? Might that change the power structure? Might you loose your power? That’s what you care about. You’re not doing it to propose something reasonable that all can live with and benefit from for the good of the country. Your looking out for your ass, and all your fellow ********.

An armed public is apparently a threat to the obama regime. Why? Because he wants to turn us into a socialist, helpless population. He wants to tie your rights to your ability to get government help and government health. He wants you on par with the world’s helpless and hopeless masses and he wants to be your fearless leader forever. He uses shills like piers morgan to try and convince you that if you want to remain armed then you must be deminted or criminal. Morgan is like most news media personnel. He is not a reporter…., he is a propagandist for the left.

Here’s another one… All of congress, not just a few of them, should do this every year:

    http://www.prisonplanet.com/house-reads-out-constitution-only-74-members-show-up.html

It’s pretty sad only 74 were present, and we wonder why they/we/the constitution get walked on by the executive branch? I watched quite a bit of it live via a fox feed.

They are saying it in plain english: Diane Feinstein, Reid, Cuomo, Giffords and Bloomberg want to restrict my ability to defend my family (and my Country) from cowardly legislating tyrants like them by Interjecting “Hunting Deer” into the equation.. #2. I don’t need the right to have a tank. That’s not covered under the second amendment of the constitution. If I want to up-armor my car – I have every right to reinforce it. When you bring your tanks into my neighborhood you better guarantee I’ll be taking pot shots at your soft targets and looking to acquire any and everything I can from them to include COMSEC devices, Radio Equipment, Vehicles, Uniforms, Armor, Weapons, Food and Rations.. The American population is FULL of veterans who will NOT stand idly by and watch our rights be stripped by the government and they would be doing one HELL of a disservice to themselves by deploying their equipment, that we are all trained on, into our neighborhoods.

This whole gun control thing is a farce. Obama is leading us down a path we created for him. We gave him the keys and now he will lock us up. Think about this; we keep talking about the mentally disturbed and how they are the ones, not the guns that are killing. Obama painted us into the corner. Now we have ObamaCare and DRs all over who will ask us questions about guns. The point is Obama will sit back and say he didn’t take away our second amendment right, but all the while he will use the law to justify taking our guns because either we are “mentally” unstable, or someone in our house is. And we don’t get to define “mentally unstable”, he does. Eventually he will reduce the number of us who will be able to have guns legally to the point where there will not be enough of us to do anything to protect our freedom.

I don’t know gang…People on the Left think that the Government grants rights. People on the Right think that the Constitution grants rights. The irony is that our Founders recognized that certain rights of a free man were granted by nature and a birth right, not a privilege granted by another man (Ruler) or by the majority (a mob). I have an inalienable right to protect myself and my family, period. That means from bad guys, wild animals, or even tyrants. This is not negotiable and not offered in trade to the whims of a mob. All the Constitution does is reiterate recognition of Natural Rights and then limit the scope of the Federal Government. Since the destruction of the Senate to popular mob vote and the indoctrination of the public to think that those benevolent clowns in DC grant us rights, reflecting the opinion of the mob, we have lost any protection for the minority, especially the individual. This is both wrong and stupid. We have to live with each other, but you do not have a right to get in the way of my Natural Rights, especially when they do not infringe on the exercise of yours..
