Shocker: The Obama Jobs Council Hasn’t Met in a Year

U.S. Jobs Council Was Supposed to Help Sort Out Unemployment, Hasn’t Met in a Year

Remember during the 2012 presidential election when a few of us noted with concern the fact that President Barack Obama’s so-called jobs council (aka the “President’s Council on Jobs and Competitiveness”) wasn’t, well, doing anything?

Well, the election has come and gone and the jobs council still isn’t doing anything. In fact, as of yesterday, it has been an entire year since it has met to discuss long-term unemployment. Yes, an entire year.

“President Barack Obama’s Jobs Council hit a notable milestone on Thursday: one year without an official meeting. The 26-member panel is also set to expire at the end of the month, unless Obama extends its tenure,” POLITICO reports.

The group last met to discuss U.S. unemployment on Jan. 17, 2012.

“A spokesman for Jobs Council chairman Jeffrey Immelt, who’s the CEO of General Electric, referred questions about the panel’s future to the White House,” POLITICO notes.

“A White House spokeswoman had no comment Thursday,” the report adds.

A White House spokesperson did not immediately respond Friday to a Blaze request for comment.

Final Thought: Perhaps news of the council’s inactivity shouldn’t come as that big of a surprise. Indeed, as noted elsewhere on TheBlaze, the council and the people who run it are not exactly, ahem, orthodox.

Remember when Obama’s jobs council head and the CEO of GE Jeffrey Immelt said that one thing that “actually works” is “state-run Communism” in China?

“Look, I think it’s good for China,” he said, referring to China’s growth rate falling from double digits to about eight percent.

“To a certain extent, Charlie, 11 to 12 percent is unsustainable. You end up getting too much stimulus or a misallocation of resources. They are much better off working on a more consumer-based economy, less dependent on exports, driving technology and innovation harder,” he added. “Really, the one thing that actually works, state run communism may not be your cup of tea, but their government works.”

“They get things done,” CBC News’ Charlie Rose  responded.

They get things done — what’s that like?

Because his concern with jobs is and has only ever been lip service.

He was only concerned with Jobs when he thought whe was going toneed to look for one, now that he has another four years it can wait. He would much rather spend his time argueing a 200 year fight on guns control and spend moneyon himself for life time security (which he can affords himself) that do anything about jobs in the US

O- They’ve been meeting alright. Just not to CREATE jobs. The entire obama doctrine is about destroying jobs and then fudging numbers to hide behind.

obama cares about jobs only in rhetoric. But the electorate and our media buy into the rhetoric as if it were action. As long as obama says the right things, he gets a pass. That his actions do not match his rhetoric is of no consequence. This is the reality of America today. It makes the propganda of the USSR look like child’s play. And we thought we were so above propoganda…

I find it very appropriate to the rest of the Presidents current facade, that when I personally checked the “Job Council” that it’s “blog” has nothing further than the August 16th blog.
So evidently the jobs council has been looking for jobs since August 2012.

He doesn’t care about jobs. Record unemployment didn’t hurt him being reelected. Why would he care now? This is the new normal, this is what the American people VOTED for! High unemployment, anemic economic activity, high regulations, high taxes, poor prospects, and an asinine public fiscal policy.

The only claim to fame for the ‘Jobs Council’ was in August 2011 when President Obama, and GE CEO Jeffrey Immelt (to Obama’s left) had a big laugh over the failure of “shovel ready jobs”.

    no news here…
he ignored the recommendations of his economic response team,
hasn’t SUBMITTED a budget for most of a term,
    does not attend security briefings,
did not bother to initiate a response to Benghazi,
did not immediately interrupt his schedule or vacation for various tragedies or to address the ‘fiscal cliff’…

this is business as usual for this pretender. He CAN’T form an opinion or formulate a course of action on his own, dependent apparently totally on his advisors for any action.

Which might be good… what cockamamie plans would he be proposing with the ‘force’ of this team if they had met? THE LESS HE DOES, THE BETTER

And we should be surprised? Everything BHO and his administration do is for appearance sake. I have how the word optics has been redefined. But that is what you can expect from Washington, optics, all talk, no action. Four more years of empty promises on the taxpayers’ dime.
