The End of Gun Control, or Anarchy? See The Chilling Possibilities Created By 3D Printed Guns
“America, is this guy a hero or a villain?”
That was one of the questions asked by Glenn Beck during a fascinating and potentially frightening interview with Cody Wilson of Defense Distributed, The WikiWeapons Project. If you are not familiar with them, Wilson’s group claims to be “A non-profit collaborative project to create freely available plans for printable 3D guns.”
In a segment during Beck’s TV program about The Singularity, a technology-evolutionary jump, Wilson was talking about his success in using 3D printers to actually make plastic guns. (Cody Wilson has actually fired these printed components — see video below.) Beck also showed a functional, high-capacity magazine that was made by the WikiWeapons project using a 3D printer.

While it is illegal to print an entire gun, parts can be printed and guns assembled with relative ease. Cody Wilson explained to Beck that the file for the high-capacity magazine has been downloaded more that 150,000 times since President Obama’s announcement of his Executive Orders on limiting guns.
The cost of creating weapons in your own home is coming down very rapidly. Just as with any technology, as it becomes more popular, the price to own it drops exponentially. Both host and guest agree that 3D printers will soon be as cheap to own and operate as ink-jet printers are today.
Is the 3D printer a “game changer” in the gun control debate? Would access to this technology create more bad than good?
Watch the fascinating back and forth between Beck and Wilson on the possibilities (both good and bad) created by the use of 3D printers to make real guns:

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 10:19amSorry Gelnn, but obeying the dictates of a bunch of sychpaths who call themselves government is not the “right way”. The right way would be to tell them to go pound sand and print your frickin’ gun!

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 10:13amMaking your own firearm is quite legal. 3d printers do not change that. Our government has become oppressive in area that it was never intended to operate in. To push back is normal and is quite American.

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 9:59amAR Upper assembly are not considered guns and are legal to own without any back ground check. so with a little time in the machine shop all you have to do is make a stock and a trigger. would be a single shot but effective
if fact you could do it in your kitchen..

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 9:57amWhen I first saw this guy on YouTube a couple of weeks ago I was intrigued to find out what made him tick. I believe we still don’t know even with a lot of digging on the net. I think Glenn did a good job and I was glad he had Mr. Wilson on the show. Glenn did a good job calling BS on the why statement. I disagree with a lot of negative comments coming toward Glenn. If you want a narrow point of view or no real discussion of different points view go to which ever site or show (MSNBC or FOX) and get your fill. I happen to agree with Mr. Wilson on the left/ right paradigm just not so much towards anarchy.

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 9:36amNow things start to look a little differently. The only possibility for gun control is for the public to be so stupid they cannot operate a computer. It would seem the only option available is for the liberals to start issuing “Concealed Carry Permits for Brains”. Background check to go to school. Permission to get an education. Restrictions on what you are allowed to learn. It’s easy to see now why the progs have been taking control of the education system.
As for the complaints on gun barrels or other parts that cannot be made out of plastic, it is only a matter of time until someone comes up with a printable materal that answers that issue. See a need, fill a need. Of course if you combine the permit for brains with outlawing the free market and capitalism….

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 9:16amAll those saying “plastic AR will not work” you need to read a little. The only thing that is plastic is the lower receiver. New Frontier Armory has made composite lower receivers for years. Standard upper receivers hook up to this and operate very well. All parts of the gun that need to be metal are still metal. Operates just like a Glock.

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 9:08amlibs will not be able to answer my questions above, nor will they even want to admit to the truth of those statistics
Criminality is not genetic, nor has it ever been.
Skin color is benign and non-behavioral. People do not commit crimes because of the color of thier skin.
What we do know, is that democrat programs, welfare, multicultural education, MTV, violent rap….. have all contributed to a serious problem of violence and murder within the black communities in the US.
Because of the liberal mandated laws of political correctness, no one is supposed to speak of these facts, nor do liberals want anyone to try to solve these problems. It detracts from their agenda
Notice that over 500 people (mostly black) were murdered in Chicago, this year alone. The mass majority were killed via cheap or stolen hand guns. Less that 3% were killed with a rifle of any type, but Obama and the libs are clamoring for banning rifles. What does that tell us? It would seem to me that libs believe that rich white kids from Connecticut matter, but blacks from the South Side of Chicago do not, otherwise, Obama and crowd would be talking lowering murder rates, and not outlawing the least used weapon in crimes.
Contrary to popular belief, most AR owners, use them for sport. we shoot national match at Camp Perry, do 3-gun, Varmint shoots, and NRA high-power matches. They are to expensive for criminals.

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 9:02amCody Wilson just made totalitarian control over self-defense obsolete.
Hahahahaha!
While they can try to CONTROL the sale of 3D printers, they can’t ban them. And there will always be a black market for them if a radical leftist geek tries to ban them from use by the general public.
Oh, yes, they can pass another draconian law making it illegal to replicate guns, but they’ll be about as effective as prohibition was and the war on drugs is right now.
Hey, Diane Frankenstein! You want to control the manufacturers of large capacity magazines? Well, don’t bother. It won’t make any difference if they’re controlled or not.
It’s a sad day for the leftist control freaks. And here they were on every channel, gloating about their recent totalitarian legislation in Big Nose Cuomo’s state.
Way to go, Cody Wilson.

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 8:58amWant to see a liberals go speechless on gun control? Ask these questions.
Do you know that blacks make up 12.5% of the population, but do ½ of the nation’s murders?
Do you know that by lowering black murder rates to the same as whites, we would lower the national murder per capita rate by 40%, we would also have a murder rate as low as the lowest nations in Europe, and we would save thousands of black lives?
Would you like to save black lives? What do you suggest we do to lower black murder rates?
Do you know that 70% of our murders in the US are gang related? Other than having his DOJ give “assault weapons” to Mexican drug gangs, what is Obama doing to combat gang violence?
Do you know that that our violent crimes are intrinsically tied to liberal welfare programs? Do you suggest we start phasing out these programs, being they have not succeeded in lowing poverty rates, but have instead raised it.
Do you realize that for three decades, MTV has continuously portrayed the black man as a thuggish brute that has bitches and hoes, walks around adorned in gaudy gold jewelry, wearing clownish clothes three times to big, is a gangster, and has contributed to blacks glorifying a criminal lifestyle?

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 8:53amLook up the guy who makes an AR 15 reciever out of his plastic cutting board. The rest of the rifle can be ordered online and shipped to your door. The only FFL part is the lower reciever. Its the upper that holds the barrel that takes most of the pressure. There are plastic/ carbon fiber uppers too.

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 8:50amThe Swiss thought they owned the wristwatch market until the Japanese introduced the digital watch. While 3D printing technology is not in it’s true infancy, the making of weapons with this technology. I am old enough to remember going through college with a 10 key adding machine because there were no pocket calculator anyone could afford. I got my first calculator off of a drunken Huey pilot who should have stopped playin poker sooner. Give this technology some time.

Posted on January 18, 2013 at 8:50amCongress shall make no law abridging the freedom of the press! Let the guy print whatever the heck he wants. These are not 3D guns, but 3D words printed for those illiterate Obummer voters who need special one on one assistance. Next, they’ll learn the word Democrat, and we’ll print out a jackass for them. Let’s not impede the advancement of learning and education here.
