Time Warner Cable Enacts Its Own ‘Assault Weapons’ Ban
Time Warner Cable has enacted a strict semi-automatic weapons ban. The company will no longer accept ads that show “semi-automatic weapons” or “guns pointed at people,” the second largest cable provided in the U.S. announced Friday.
Multichannel.com obtained the following statement reportedly released by Time Warner Cable:
“We no longer accept ads showing semi-automatic weapons and guns pointed at people. We stand by this policy. If it’s essential to a business owner to show this kind of imagery in their commercials, there are other advertising options in the marketplace.”
The new policy will not interfere with regular programming, like TV shows and movies, however, the restrictive measure could still send shockwaves throughout the entertainment and advertising industry.
The move comes more than a month after the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary. President Barack Obama is proposing a new semi-automatic rifle ban, universal background checks and other measures to combat gun violence. Additionally, Obama signed 23 executive orders on gun police earlier this week.
What do you think of Time Warner Cable’s decision?

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 1:17amSome of you may have missed it, but the NRA had an ad of a “bad guy” with an AK-15 with a 30 round magazine about to blow away a a bunch of kindergarten kids in a classroom. The music? Ominous. That image faded to text saying “Why does Obama not want to protect children like yours?” There was a brief black and white image of his children – Sasha and Malia – superimposed against the kindergarten kids, and then a fade out to a 1-800 number for donating to the NRA, the lobbyists for gun manufacturers and protectors of our children.
Seriously, Time Warner is willing to give up revenue by banning THIS ad? They could make big bucks if they continued to show this ad. What is their problem? And what is the problem with the NRA ad?

And what about the convicted murderers on death row who will be killed instead of rehabilitated. They are probably innocent anyway, despite an average of 30 years of rejected appeals. Oh… and what about the 3000 lives saved per year from breast cancer… if we could just raise more money….
How dare you talk about 60,000,000 dead babies. Who cares about that …. it’s only the population of Americas 80 Largest cities… combined

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 1:32pmY’all need to remember the difference between Time Warner Cable and the channels they show. This decision, i’m sure has nothing to do with the individual station’s decisions on commercials or programming.
They get to over-run a certain percentage of the commercials run by the channels with their own. These are generally the low-quality commercials for Time Warner itself, local politicians, and businesses (seems like lawyers and car dealers dominate those in my area).
