Tom Brokaw: It’s ‘Far-Reaching’ to Think You Need Guns to Fight Back Against the Government

Tom Brokaw

AP

NBC’s Tom Brokaw said Thursday it’s “far-reaching” to think the American people need guns to fight back against the government.

Brokaw said on MSNBC’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” that one of the main arguments pro-gun advocates cite — that the Second Amendment is meant to protect against a tyrannical government — is pretty outlandish.

He said he agrees with retired Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal who supports “serious action” to curb gun violence and said military-grade weaponry doesn’t belong in civilian hands.

“The response to that was, ‘I have to keep my weapon because the government’s going to come and try to take it away from me, and I have to be able to fight back when that happens,’” Brokaw said. “Well that’s the most far-reaching thing you can possibly imagine.”

He continued, “If we get to a stage where storm troopers show up on your doorstep, it’s about a lot more guns, by the way, it’s anarchy in this country.”

If the American people lose there guns the storm troopers will show up.It sickening to me to think that Americas Military or any Police department in the United States would go aganist the American People on the orders of someone like Obama who without a doubt would love to have a permanent position in the White House.I do know that if this ever does happen the American people will never take it laying down.So Tom Brokow who doesnt have any idea what the American people stands for can keep proveing to everyone just how dumb he is by opening his mouth.Like our people in Congress these news people are so out of touch they believe their own lies.

How to kill 6 million people. Do it slowly and over a long time years if need be. They did not kill 6 million people with one trip to the door. But several steps and the cattle cars trip was one of the last.

Brokaw is so confident in the US future of gun control because his people are in office and are on the offensive. He thinks regardless of gun control that he will fare well and be safe. He will be mistaken but he is too stupid to realize vulnerability. It does not matter what this mouthpiece of liberalism thinks. You might as well ask a mushroom what it thinks as to ask a liberal. He, like all libs, is wrong and he does not know history,…….or…maybe he does.

General McChrystal is an embarrassment to anyone in uniform and takes their oath seriously. We wonder why we have so many issues in the military and then someone like McChrystal shows us why. As a retired military person I do not share the good general’s ideas. “the one” is ruling by royal decree, completely bypassing the legislature and people’s representation which is what any tyrant would do.

One more thing: If Obama’s goal was to keep guns off the streets, well it just backfired – big time. Because he created a panic in that people were afraid they wouldn’t be able to buy guns or ammunition anymore, MILLIONS of new guns are in the hands of civilians. Many of these people may have NEVER bought a gun, but because they felt it was “now or never” they bought one in case they might want one in the future. Now many of these guns will probably get stolen and will be in the hands of criminals, instead of never being sold in the first place. What an idiot!

Did you ever learn about the Battle of Athens 1946 (sometimes called the McMinn
County War)? Most have not either, but it IMHO……You might find this interesting.

Battle of Athens (TN) – 1946

I was completely unaware of this event that took place in Athens, TN in 1946. I
did not know an armed revolt by WWII veterans ever took place during our
lifetime. A very sobering video reinactment to say the least.

Now the second amendment is a little clearer.

Be sure to see the actual photos at the end showing the plaques describing the
    event.

I used to think something like that would be far-reaching too. However, the more I see the Obama administration ignoring the Constitution with his Executive Orders the less far-reaching it seems. The Constitution is SUPPOSED to protect our rights, but when the government ignores the one thing that is supposed to protect us why should we expect them to protect us in other areas? Our gov. is giving money and weapons to insurgents in other countries around the world, therefore, they HAVE to understand the importance of having the civilian population armed, yet they are disarming their OWN civilian population and stockpiling ammunition themselves. Why?
Sorry, when the gov. returns to honoring, respecting and FOLLOWING the Constitution, then I may return to having blind faith in the U.S. government, but currently my eyes are open.

The ignorance he displays is symptomatic of the main stream media, the Govt., and a large segment of society. It is extreme hubris, and it is ignorance.
They feel insulated from history, and from financial and geopolitical reality. They believe no threats are real, unless they are domestic. They believe that the nation most in debt is the richest. They feel so secure in their own little world that they don’t believe in any threatening consequences. Consequently cozying up to Islamofascism isn’t a threat, nor is endless and reckless spending. Apparently there is no law or consequence they can’t bend to their will.
Moral blindness will do that to you. We are being taught by the universe. We don’t make natural law, we can only beat ourselves against it. Tom, go read The Gods of the Copybook Headings again.

some historians refer to our present condition as “soft tyranny.”
storm troopers? one just has to leave theblaze for a moment and frequent other news stories and you can see storm troopers in operation daily, whethere the dept of ed “swat team” is kicking down some innocent person’s door and dragging them outside in front of children and neighbors; police shooting tied up dogs or dogs that came out of an open door after police knocked on the wrong door; irs, with the help of u.s. marshals, coming into people’s homes and confiscating their possessions without a court-issued warrant, just on their say-so, because, supposedly, congress gave them the power to do so; etc, etc, etc.
    what say you, tommyboy?

Mr. Brokaw, with all due respect, there is a big difference between the miitary selecting to use a weapon that civilians already use, and making the argument that once we have made the decision that gun makers can allow civilians to use semi-automatic weapons, it is infringement of the rights of Americans, is not hard to make, you have have not made a good argument to suggest otherwise?

The AR-15 was designed for the military – for one purpose, to allow them to carry more ammunition, the basic concept of the weapon was simply to take the best characteristics of existing civilian weapons, and attempt to condense those qualities into weapons that gave the best protection to soldiers, and this doctrine was designed around the concept of prolonged use by thousands of people in a conflict with a foreign state, not the individual defense needs of a civlian, where all these “assualt weapon” designs do not come into play.

That is a far cry from a rocket powered grenade, or C4, or assume that a civilian has any tactical advantage against the government by owning one of these weapons. Assualt weapon designs were centered around the limitations to deliver truck loads, ship loads, or air lift pallets of ammunition to FOB, not provide debates to disarm civilians who use the same type of weapons for self defense.

This amounts to political theatre, the same technique used against other professionals and commerce in the private sector?

Mr. Brokaw, what do you say to the fact that the military uses, or wants to use the same arms that civilians want to use? The military is not allowed to use arms against the People, hence there is no alternative but to allow civilians to hold the arms that the military “copied the use” from any way?

How do you rest at night with such logic Mr. Brokaw, when gun violence is under control, but media profits are left out of your fair and balanced discussions?
