Posted on January 19, 2013 at 1:54amWell with out a doubt, she is a good shot. Still my grandpa would surly of out shot her when he was still 60. I remember going down range one day and seeing a Dim sized hole made by many many rounds from some rifel when I was a young boy. I pointed at it and said to my Grandpa “Wow grandpa you must have had someone really good out here shooting, I have never seen anyone do that before”, To which Grandpa laughed and said “Well that was me, I did that with a 22 at 50 yards a couple of weeks ago”. I didn’t know then that Grandpa was a trained siper in the Army when he was in his 20′s. He know more about Balistics than ide say 99.99% of the US knows.
Tom Knap might give him a good run for his money though on Balistics. I’d def say Tom is probably a better shot than grandpa was, never seen gramps shoot a bullet threw a washer after he threw it in the air. Though he could clear weeds out from in front his shooting range by shooting them down.

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 6:58amI do not like the title for this article. Are we supposed to be shocked, because she is a “woman” and is a high level shooter?
I also understand the title, because those who mistakenly attribute “masculinity” to firearms, and I know the type,
I am a huge fan of the 2nd amendment, but will be honest; the crowd at many gun stores embarrasses me, and I do not care to be around them. They are the “gun” people tough guy crowd. Generally this crowd knows nothing of marksmanship.
I have my own range where I practice for a number of competitions, and train others, but on the rare occasion I shoot at the “local” gun ranges. This is where you often see the knuckle head gun people. They show up, go put up a target, and pull their entire gun collection out of the trunk, and proceed to shoot a little of everything, blow one target full of holes, and think they have accomplished something.
The shooter who wishes to attain the title “marksman” that shows up with one weapon, and they have a plan. They put up a target, and do a series of dry fire drills at that target. Once they do shoot, you can see that they are working on a specific skill set. After shooting they go down range, paste up, or tape up the bullet holes, make notes, and go back and shoot again. They paste up the last holes, because they need to know where every shot hit. Shooting without target feedback is just wasting ammo.
The sex of the shooter does not matter. Sight alignment and trigger

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 10:30am@RangerSkippy…from your name, seems like you may have served as a ranger? if so, thanks for your service
Many different people are into guns for a lot of reasons. Marksmanship is a good reason and a good skill, but not the only skill. Some people, sure, are “bubbas…” But I too have been to many ranges where people are just trying to get skilled at different weapons, perhaps for sporting or hunting, self defense, etc.I shoot several different guns at the range because I have several and want to have experience in the weapons I have, I do not need to be a marksman in every weapon I own, I want to be familiar and have some reflex action and muscle memory when I use my weapon. I have had to be skilled at shooting weapons from rocking and moving boats, at night, etc. so these are less than optimum conditions from that of a marksman sitting in his perch, taking all the time he needs to get that expert shot.
Oh, and by the way, Jessie Duff is the champion…That she is attractive is not the issue here, She is smart and expert.

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 2:45pmNearly all of the “grandpa generation” was much better at a whole variety of things. My own father built boats, planes, houses, furniture, and guns. Remember when I was about 10, he saw that a friend of mine had come home from a trip to Mexico with a 20ft bullwhip. Said “Let me see that thing” and proceeded to trim a bush on both sides and on the top! Needless to say, my jaw dropped. Point being, don’t think that Dad was unique to his time (1916-1995). People tended to do many things very well and that was the point. Excellence was revered, now not so much.

I give a damn… I thought it was very interesting. Because that’s the point of all this madness, isn’t it? We used to be a country of riflemen. Those boys who went into WWII could already shoot a fly of a turd at a hundred yards when they joined the service. They grew up running around in the woods shooting things and could shoot long before they could shave. Now we have a generation of key punching fops who don’t know which end of the gun to point with and think it would be a good idea to violate the 2nd amendment. Who the frack wants to be defenseless with the direction this government is going in and future ones may arrive at? Not me or mine, that’s for sure.
These metro-sexual fools in the city are going to find out what guns are really for when the dollar collapses. I know it ain’t happened yet and we’re all letting our guard down a bit, but it’s still coming people. Will it be at 20 trillion, 25 trillion or 30? Or will it be in a few weeks when the next debt ceiling fight is joined? Inquiring minds wish to know. We all know it has to happen and we also know what hungry human beings will do to survive. All these fat and smug little city tarts are going to be big white squishy grubs for the Blue Jays. It won’t be pretty. Well, it might be beautiful in an existential, karmic, strange beauty kinda way….. :)

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 4:35pmI think some folks missed my point. There should be no shock that a woman can be a pistol champion.
Marksmanship is not a tough guy thing, it is a skill that women, children, old, and young can enjoy.
Sometimes when I go to the range, you run across the knuckle heads that think it to be a tough guy thing, and they generally do not shoot well. I can spot these sorts a mile away in a gun store. Shooting is not a “man” thing. That was my point.
To each his own; some folks show up to the range, and shoot a variety of weapons doing familiarization, No intent to offend those that shoot this way, and apologize if I did.
Yes, I was an Army Ranger back in my enlisted days. Now I am just a regular Infantry officer
I do compete, and I compete at some pretty high levels. I have shot shoulder to shoulder with Sheri Gallagher, and am not in the ball park with someone of her caliber. I compete at the nationals at Camp Perry, and also do the long range tactical matches with bolt gun, and I play around with IDPA pistol a bit. I will never shoot to the level of the lady in this article.
I was fortunate to have shot with the Army Marksmanship Unit as a pick-up shooter years ago, and learned a good deal from some outstanding marksman. I am a competitor, a reloader, and still consider myself a beginner, and continue to learn.
If you have never competed, I suggest you do. You will be amazed at how friendly and informative great shooters usually are

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 5:13pmOne more of my opinions
I seem to be good at ******* people off, so I will stay on a roll.
This lady is not only a marksman; she is also a finely tuned athlete in every sense of the word. If he she happens to be attractive, it has no bearing on the subject nor should it. She could be dog butt ugly, and her shooting skills and athleticism are still just as impressive.
So here is my warning. Stay away and shun the whole “guns and babes” sort of stuff. This lady does not fit that category, but I do not care to see any of that crap. It cheapens marksmanship, gun ownership, and shooting sports.
We shooters of all sorts, from the hunter, to the competitor, to the gun collector, and the person carrying for self defense are under the microscope. CNN, MSNBC, and democrats want to paint us as ignorant, racist, and out of touch. Promoting the “guns and babes” sort of stuff plays into their hands.
YouTube is full of videos of some girl in her short shorts, shooting her boyfriends shotgun or .44 magnum pistol, and getting wacked in the face from the recoil. That sort of stupidity does not humor me, and it paints gun owners as morons. I am not only a competitor; I am also a shooting coach. When I teach someone, safety matters. Having them learn properly, and being successful, and losing fear of the gun, but keeping respect is of the upmost importance. Foolishness will not accomplish that goal.

Posted on January 20, 2013 at 8:22pmFrankly…I agree with nearly all of RangerSkippy’s observations. I think we do ourselves, as shooters and firearms enthusiasts, a great disservice when we say and do things that make us look like the knuckle-draggers the anti-gun folks want to portray us to be.
I will add this observation as well. As a firearms instructor (since 1985), it has been my experience that women actually take to shooting as quickly and often times quicker than male students. They are more attentive and more willing to learn. They don’t come into shooting with the often undeserved “self confidence” that men do. My wife was a novice to shooting when she became a LEO. With training she became a 500 shooter and remained a 500 shooter for her entire 27 year career. Most men who are first time students, but have shooting experience, need to be “untrained” first. They need to be stripped of their bad habits and then trained correctly. Women want to learn, guys generally want to show you what they know and have excuses when they shoot poorly. Sometimes being humbled by their crappy shooting causes a change. Other times they need to be sent to the range shack until they adjust their perspective and take the instruction to heart. Of course there are dudes who show up ready to learn, but generally most are the professionals like LEOs, or military. They have an open mind and only seek to improve or get a different perspective.

Posted on January 20, 2013 at 11:52pm@RangerSkippy: I’m probably similar to some of the ones you see at the range with multiple guns. I’m not there to practice becoming a marksman. I’m there to make sure I can still hit the center of mass at 15-20 yards. The worst thing in the world is a gun owner that can’t hit their intended target. I want to be able to do it with the pistols I own, not just one specific gun.
As far as the video goes, since it came from the Hannity show, isn’t it likely that Hannity’s point was to show that it’s not just men that shoot? I get the feeling that she was trying to be very informative (especially toward the end), whereas Hannity just wanted to say “See America, women can shoot too”.

I think she called it a pistol grip because liberals call all grips pistol grips. So saying this grip would fall under the pistol grip category therefore be banned is no big deal and might be understood by a low info voter. No point to explain the difference between a pistol or a foregrip. But as I assume, you were looking for one thing you could say you knew that she didn’t because of the title, and you found one. One of the things banned in the 1994/5 AWB was pistol grips on shotguns, rifles, etc. A completely different piece than what Jessie was illustrating.
If the pistol grip was just something that was out there, rather than a target of gun-banners, then absolutely, it’s inconsequential. However, when it’s already a target (and has been for almost 20 years) at least get it right.

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 11:48amI agree. That title is BS. I do not begrudge a babe being a good shot in any way. But, let’s be real. I guarantee you she does not know more about physics and guns than I and many others here do. That is a fact. But, I am happy that she is doing well and is on our side. That is the most important thing here. We need ALL patriots on deck. And we need the girls too. Welcome aboard ladies.

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 12:41pm:-) You must have gotten the impression she exhausted her knowledge and abilities in a 1 or 2 minute tv segment. Notice how easy it is to criticize on website comment sections? I guess it IS fun to see one’s name in print though.

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 1:41pmThe article also fails to point out that she is a pro competitor who has the freedom to devote all of her time to shooting. Oh, and then there’s the custom race gun she is shooting with a heavily modified trigger and recoil assembly – plus the ammo most pro competitors fire is not loaded to the same pressures and velocities as regular ammo so recoil is significantly diminished. One of the visitors at the range I shoot at competes in IPSC and IDPA, and with his custom tuned race gun he is mind blowing – but with his bone stock Glock with it’s factory recoil spring and 5.5lb trigger, he is a mere mortal – deadly accurate, but as slow as anyone else on the follow-up shots. Check out Bob Munden if you want to see some real skill with a handgun. That dude uses a single action revolver.

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 2:40pmAnother incredible shooter is Jerry Miculek. In fact. I would say that he and Rob Leatham are probably the best that I have ever seen. But, I like this chick. She has that intangible quality called ‘class’. It is hard to come by. She is very adorable.

Posted on January 19, 2013 at 7:05pmMike 76 claims, “…plus the ammo most pro competitors fire is not loaded to the same pressures and velocities as regular ammo so recoil is significantly diminished…”
Wrong, Mike76. You may claim to compete, but you obviously don’t know the rules or have not read the rule book. Any rounds used in competition, especially at the level demonstraed, have to meet the requirments of full-power loads, not some reduced power that gives a competitor more control. At the least, you can go to the store and buy any ammo they carry and use it- unless it’s a reduced load round such as some ‘low recoil’ shotgun rounds.
You must be spending time with Keaton and Monicne/Encinom.
