CBS News Director John Dickersons Astonishing Advice: Obama Must Go for the Throat, Pulverize & Declare War on Republican Party

President Barack Obama needs to “pulverize” and “destroy” his Republican opponents if he wants to leave any kind of legacy — according to CBS News’ political director.

“Go for the throat!” declares the title of John Dickerson’s latest column for Slate, posted Friday. Its subtitle: “Why if he wants to transform American politics, Obama must declare war on the Republican Party.”

In it, Dickerson — who was named CBS News political director in 2011 — says Obama, facing political gridlock and endless clashes with House Republicans, has the challenge of “how to be great when the environment stinks”:

The president who came into office speaking in lofty terms about bipartisanship and cooperation can only cement his legacy if he destroys the GOP. If he wants to transform American politics, he must go for the throat.

How should the president proceed then, if he wants to be bold? The Barack Obama of the first administration might have approached the task by finding some Republicans to deal with and then start agreeing to some of their demands in hope that he would win some of their votes. It’s the traditional approach. Perhaps he could add a good deal more schmoozing with lawmakers, too.

That’s the old way. He has abandoned that. He doesn’t think it will work and he doesn’t have the time. As Obama explained in his last press conference, he thinks the Republicans are dead set on opposing him. They cannot be unchained by schmoozing. Even if Obama were wrong about Republican intransigence, other constraints will limit the chance for cooperation. Republican lawmakers worried about primary challenges in 2014 are not going to be willing partners. He probably has at most 18 months before people start dropping the lame-duck label in close proximity to his name.

Obama’s only remaining option is to pulverize. Whether he succeeds in passing legislation or not, given his ambitions, his goal should be to delegitimize his opponents. Through a series of clarifying fights over controversial issues, he can force Republicans to either side with their coalition’s most extreme elements or cause a rift in the party that will leave it, at least temporarily, in disarray.

Fox News’ Brit Hume took notice of the column Saturday morning, tweeting out the link and noting Dickerson’s affiliation with CBS.

  It has dawned on me that the Republican versus Democratic battle is much the same as the Israeli versus Muslim battle. The Democrats keep demanding that the Republicans give them everything while they do nothing in return. Over and over again. Bottom line, a party that acts like a Chamberlin is bounded to fail.   Do you know what astonishes me? The fact that the Republican party continues to “double down” on their appeal to their shrinking base while at the same time managing to put off or actually offend the rest of Americans. A psychologist would probably call that “self defeating behavior” if the Republican goal is to win future elections.
  
  The biggest minority in America is women, although that’s a misnomer because they are actually the majority of voters in the US. They voted in large, disproportionate numbers for Obama in the last election. Are Republicans, post election, appealing to this group? Heck no. States in particular are still trying to regulate by law women’s bodies. Are Republicans, following their defeats in the election modifying their stated policies to attract minorities? Heck no!
  
  And of course there is the NRA management and gun industry (who no longer represent the NRA membership) has managed to offend most Americans by putting their gun sights on the President’s children Sasha and Malia, and tried, for the first time in history, the put a President’s children dead dead center in a political discussion.

  I was watching Anderson Cooper at the gym the other day (someone else turned it on). They had a segment on why the NRA went too far with their add “targeting” Obama’s children. They had three people on a panel of guests and all three of them had the same damn opinion. Echo chamber much? These media clowns aren’t even trying to hide their bias anymore. As much as the left hates Fox news at least Fox puts guests from both sides on. That to me is the root of Republican woes, at least some of them. The media has decided to become propagandists rather than truth seekers. It’s tough to defend yourself when you’re not given a voice as my previous Anderson Cooper panel example illustrates.

Obama has been at war with the Republicans, the Tea Party, and conservatism for some time as he seeks to build his base and transform the nation into a communist Utopian society.

The difference now is that he has nothing to hold him back, no longer fearing the need to be reelected by the masses and not bothering to hide his madness for all who will look and understand.

Remember the magazine cover that declared “We are all socialist now…”

Case in point, in October of 2010 he referred to his opponents as “enemies. I never heard of a president of all the people calling half the nation “enemies”. On Mat 9,2010 he called tea party patriots “teabaggers”, a filthy vile slur with a disgusting sexual connotation, re: the urban dictionary, but not on a full stomach. He could have been and should have been stopped but because so many millions just had to prove a point rather then try to get our country back we all have to pay the terrible price of what is ahead – watching our freedoms and beautiful God given country dissolve right before our very eyes. The Congress has become an adversarial system, where each side fights to win. What if the wrong side wins, as did the Senate, in pushing through Obamacare without even reading it?
Now the Democrats are the socialist communists, while the Republicans are true Americans, with the help of the Tea Party. If the Tea Party can replace much of the Congress with American patriots, we might still have a chance to save our nation from the Muslim in the Oval Office.

yep, abandon the traditional way of finding things in common with your foes, negotiating, and if need be, compromising. Instead, do everything you can to destroy the system, to make the presidency imperial, and not out maneuver your opposition but destroy it. The only problem with the advice is that I think it’s given too late. Obama has been on that track for most, if not all of his presidency.

U.S. Citizens On Strike! July 4th 2013! Use some of that stored food, and take a couple weeks off! Send your employees home for two weeks, and watch what happens when the “Takers” lose their precious Cable, Medical, Food, Transportation, Sewage, Water, Police, Etc… Like a national hurricane for the Give-Me class which would be legal, non violent, painfull but non lethal and totally effective! Quit bugging DC, (it’s fruitless at this point, since they are totally corrupt at this point) there’s no point in going to the source of the problem for the solution right?! Send a real message! (They can’t do anything without us “makers/producers/earners”! Without our cash, they’ll be flat on there ssa! You can take from the Makers, but you can’t make the Makers make!

  Or increase your personal allowances to decrease your tax withholdings so you owe them money instead of receiving a refund. You have to pay 90% of your tax bill before the end of the year or you could be penalized. It would be nice if everyone was paid as a private contractor and could conveniently forget to pay their first and second estimated tax payments. It would be so satisfying to cut them off at the knees fincancially.
