Two European TV Hosts Try to Experience the Pain of Childbirth — How Long Do You Think They Lasted?

Dutch TV Hosts Dennis Storm and Valerio Zena Try to Simulate Pain of Childbirth for Guinea Pigs

Dutch television hosts Dennis Storm and Valerio Zena entered territory no man can quite comprehend during their recent broadcast of the show Guinea Pigs — childbirth.

They tried, though, hooking themselves up to machines that reportedly simulate the pain of contractions.

Midway into the experiment, the television hosts lose their grins. (Photo: Screen Shot)

The Huffington Post describes how it went:

“Do you think the pain will make us scream?” Zeno asks before the shocks begin.

One of the nurses responds bluntly: “Yes, it definitely will.”

She wasn’t lying.

Propped on a bed with electrodes attached to their abdomens, Storm and Zeno last through two hours of the simulated contractions. Though they try to laugh through the strain, the men appear to be in complete misery as they double over and clutch pillows tightly.

While the time span of the simulation was much shorter than many instances of real-life labor, Storm and Zeno appeared to get the full experience. In the end, Zeno sums up the challenge as torture and wonders if he wants his wife to go through the same pain.

The video does not have subtitles, but the scene is one that transcends linguistic barriers:

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

I get these headaches once a year for about a week that are called cluster headaches also known as the suicide headache. Women that get them say there worse than child birth. So I can officially tell women not only do I know what it feels like but I gave birth out of my eye… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_headache

John, I get cluster headaches too. They are worse than my FIRST child, who took an hour and a half of labor, and an hour and a half of pushing. They were NOT worse than my second child, which put me in 16 hours of labor, and almost had to be taken ceasarian. I thought he grabbed my ovary on the way out to stop from entering this world. He had the cord wrapped around his neck but there was enough slack to deliver…I guess it pulled and I’m lucky to be here. Every child is different.

My grandma, who only had my dad, said her reason was that she told grandpa she’d have the first one, and he could have the second. Dad was born in 1932, and almost in the toilet at home because she thought she had gas.

My wife has had our 2 children at home the natural way. She chuckles at women who complain how bad it hurts and refers to them as wimps (or a vulgar synonym). According to her, the pain isn’t really as bad as women make it out to be. She says severe traumatic injuries, like a patellar dislocation, are far more painful, as is passing a kidney stone. Her theory is women are exaggerating to get sympathy and attention from their men. Personally, I have to laugh hysterically when I see some woman on TV screaming hysterically and rolling around, my wife just went on about her day while she was in labor….then again, us country folk are probably just built tougher than the rest of the entitled pansies in this country.

dissent- I can tell you right now that child birth is different for every woman. There is no way that every woman experiences it the same. I’ve learned from several women I’ve met in my life about their experiences and they were all different. One had a baby within minutes of arriving at the hospital and said she didn’t feel anything; another was in labor for hours before ready for delivery. It greatly varies.

It is physiologically impossible to remember pain. The brain cannot do it. Try and remember the worst pain you ever had, it is impossible to recall it. You can say “that was the worst pain I have ever had” or “I can’t believe how bad it was” but you cannot remember the exact sensations.
Someone stomped on my lower leg when I was playing softball in college and factured both the tibia and fibula in several places, I then lifted my leg up and it flopped over and cracked some more. I remember being in agony but I cannot recall the pain itself. It is a defense mechanism…thank, God.

Women’s bodies are specifically designed to deal with the stresses of labor and are pumped full of hormones so it isn’t a very fair “test”. Half of the population has been going through this process for thousands and thousands of years so I don’t see what the big deal is.

Son, you don’t have a clue and this is insulting. We’re built to have babies, but the thing that makes us intelligent, the size of our brains, is the reason why childbirth is pretty damn harsh on human women. That brain is encased in a skull, and it has to fit through the opening in our pelvis. In order for it to be painless like like some other mammals, our pelvis would have to be so large that **** sapiens wouldn’t be able to walk upright. In other words, a skull that is too large, has to pass through our parts.Sometimes taking out organs along the way.

Hormones have nothing to do with dealing with it unless you’re talking after the fact. I’m a pretty wordy woman and I don’t have words fit to describe what childbirth is like to someone who has never experienced it.

Natural/unmediated childbirth is completely possible and enjoyable with the right preparation and a low-risk pregnancy. I encourage all women to look into it. It’s best for mama and baby if there are no complications. I also highly recommend interviewing and hiring a doula for first-time mamas. All the best!

USA- right on sister!! I had my two natural and it really was beautiful and enjoyable- admittedly the second one was nicer. I too would highly recommend it for strong women with healthy pregnancies.
There is no pain like it but there is also nothing like seeing your baby for the first time- the pain is an after thought.

Childbirth is impossible to simulate with electrodes though. Trying some kidney stones on for size- I hear those could be as painful.

Each situation is different and whatever you choose it’s wise to do it in a hospital. My experience, my pregnancy was perfect, no complications whatsoever. My son was 9 lbs 3 oz and I was “failing to progress”. They tried everything to induce labor but it wouldn’t happen. He went into distress and his heart rate plummeted. He had a bowel movement in the womb which is extremely dangerous because its toxic if they swallow it. My doc had to rush me in for an emergency C-Section. I had had an epidural but that was it and anyone who knows will tell you it helps the contractions but not adequate for major surgery. They were in such a hurry they couldn’t give me anything else and I felt EVERYTHING!!! I screamed in pain, thought I was dying. I felt every cut and tug as they pulled him out. They didnt even have time to put up the blue curtain. My husband, who is an avid hunter and who has gutted many deer, won’t talk about what he saw & heard that day. Most painful experience of my life. My doctor later told me I simply could not have given birth to him naturally. If it were 50 yrs ago before c-sections neither one of us would have survived. I would have died in childbirth.

Having said that, I have had 2 more babies, both planned c-section with a spinal block. Hardly felt a thing, much much much better!! I’m not against natural I just think people should be prepared if something goes wrong. With today’s medical knowledge and technology it would be foolish not to.
