Sen. Chuck Schumer Says the NRA Is an Extreme ‘Fringe Group’

Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sat down with HuffPost Live Friday, where he made a noteworthy statement about the rapidly-growing National Rifle Association.
Responding to interviewer Alicia Menendez’s question about whether Schumer’s colleagues are “willing to admit” that the NRA is a “fringe group,” the senator responded: “Well they sure are a fringe group, but whether enough of my colleagues are ready to admit that, I’m not sure.”
He continued: “They are a very extreme group. They don’t even represent average gun holders.”
The two proceeded to discuss certain gun control measures and Schumer’s intention to “push hard” to get them passed.
The Huffington Post summarizes:
The New York Democrat [said] that when he worked on the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which went into effect in 1994, the NRA “had such power that they filled it up with loopholes.” The Brady Law required background checks for firearm purchasers.
“Now 40 percent of the guns that are sold in America have no check, even felons can get them,” Schumer said. “If we can plug that up, that would be great.”
Schumer told HuffPost Live he would like to see the number of bullets in a clip limited and assault weapons banned as well, but that he thinks universal background checks will probably be the easiest measure to pass through the House and the one that would have the most impact.
“We’re going to push hard to get that one done and even through the House,” he said.
The NRA says its membership has grown by roughly 250,000 people in just the past month. On Saturday, thousands of Second Amendment supporters rallied across the country in support of their rights.
Here is video of Schumer’s remarks, via HuffPost Live:
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on January 21, 2013 at 1:20amApparently Chucky is unfamiliar with the latest Gallup poll, taken AFTER Sandy Hook, which shows that 54% of American adults support the NRA.
Or maybe the majority is the new definition of “fringe.”
I’m a Life Member, so I guess I’m the “lunatic fringe.” I happen to live in a state with 2.5 million people, which has issued 500,000 concealed carry permits, and our murder rate and violent crime rate are FAR below the national average. Of course, the U.S. is only #28 in the world for murder rate, and our violent crime rate is 1/4 that of Great Britain, so it’s not as if we’re a particularly violent place anyway.
Tens of thousands of armed citizens rallied Saturday at many state capitols around the country. Nary a shot was fired. Gosh, what a surprise.
When will liberals start ACTING “liberal” and mind their own business? They are the precise opposite of “liberal.”

Posted on January 21, 2013 at 12:59amChuckie wouldn’t lie to us ! He’s an honest NY Democrat ! I wish I could tell if he’s one of the Obama-in-crowd, just a wanna be or just a plain ol’ useful idiot. He does have a platform and the media reports what he says like he is Solomon’s right hand man. I also wonder if he believes a word of his own spewing. Pathetic to need position that desperately. He’s to be pitied. Someday maybe he’ll see just how corrupt and ridiculous he appears to real people, starting with the almost 5 million NRA members. Not that he’d even wonder about it. Why does Chuckie seems so pathetic and Obama and Company seem malevolent, malignant?
from a recent story on background checks and the reason people are denied:
Federal Denials – Reasons why the NICS Section denies a firearm purchase, November 30, 1998 – December 31, 2012
1. Convicted of a crime punishable by more than one year or a misdemeanor punishable by more than two years – 577,814 (58.51% of total records).

Posted on January 21, 2013 at 12:48amAfter NY passed it’s laws I now have to be registered just to handle guns and ammo. Average registration time in NY is 12-18 months….If you decided to be stupid enough to do so. On the first full day of the new law 2 different state officials came to his store check his books and made sure he wasn’t selling any weapons with over 7 round magazines…..So all gas fed pistols and many of his rifles he had to return to the manufacturers at a loss. This is “Post facto law” and is illegal under the Constitution and How many of those small gunshop owners will lose they’re life’s savings and business because of this?
Even if the class action lawsuit filed in NY wins do these owners and investors get they’re money back from the state? This law was passed knowing full well in court it will be struck down. But they also know that 90% of the gunshops will close in the 2-3 years this will take to make it through the courts!
Thank you for reading my rant may God Bless us all!

Posted on January 21, 2013 at 12:35amImagine that, they called conservatives fringe when they demanded the slaves be freed, they called us fringe when conservatives demanded that all Americans have the right to be armed, they called conservatives fringe when we started the NRA to help with the civil rights for ALL to be armed, reaction to the Progressive Democrats starting up the KK K, They called conservatives fringe when we pushed for the civil rights bill all the way up to 1963 (even after Johnson shot it down in 1959 in the Senate), I guess the party has never changed. All they had to do to get away with it is switch the name and call the Republican party the White man’s party (that is what Democrats called themselves back 50 years ago, that stopped working for them so they have kept the same policies and just started calling the Republicans the white man’s party, and people go right along with it, not even looking at the racism throughout the Democrat party. People that vote Democrat need to get educated and stop voting for their and our demise. The Democrats are still fighting the civil war (they look at that they only lost a battle), if they get there way we will lose it. They say one thing but all their actions go right back to their policies they have had for years. If the second Amendment can be infringed upon does that mean the ones put in after the civil war can be infringed upon?

Posted on January 21, 2013 at 12:16amThere is a chemical used in this country that is more hazardous than guns and nothing is being done to regulate or stop it’s misuse ! It causes death in all humans if too much or even too little is ingested. It causes the death of small children more than guns yet there are no warning labels or regulations of any kind stopping it’s misuse . It can be used to make large explosions but is not regulated by the ATF .It can be used as a weapon shot out of a cannon. It can be used to torture or kill people . It causes trillions of dollars in damages worldwide , Corporations are making billions of dollars in profits but are not forced to pay their fair share when it comes to the destruction it causes . People actually carry it out in public without a permit and unconcerned for the safety of others . Sure many people think it’s safe but is it really ? Should we be risking the lives of our children so corporations can profit from this destructive chemical ? Join me and other mindful progressive thinkers in lobbing congress and the president to tax, control, ration and regulate Dihydrogen Monoxide ! For our future and for the children !

Posted on January 20, 2013 at 11:45pmMaybe on the Upper East Side the NRA is a fringe group. In the rest of the country it does represent the average person. I don’t even own a gun and I agree with the NRA on almost everything. The elites of the Northeast and the West Coast have their heads so far up their butts that they have no idea what is normal for most people.

THIS IS A TOTALLY BOGUS “FACT.” This is an Obama-styled fallacy from the get-go. If you’ve ever been to a gun show, you will know that 99+% of gun sellers are dealers. They are all required to, and actually carry out, background checks with the FEDERAL GOV’T before they hand a firearm over to a purchaser. Period! Don’t believe me, go to a show and see. There are always a handful of individuals trying to sell their guns to others (as well as some ammo.) Yes, these sales should be checked. However, here in TN, can individual can sell a gun privately as long as the buyer is not known to be mentally ill or a felon. Only a tiny percentage – at most – of gun show sales are carried out without background checks. Libs/progressives will lie about anything and just make stuff up out of the thin air to try and make a case. Pathetic!!!

Posted on January 20, 2013 at 10:32pmFellow Firearm owners, do not be surprised if Homeland security via Obummer ties to declare the NRA a terroist group and all members are there for terroists. This admin doesn’t give a rat’s **** about the rule of law, constitution or the Bill of Rights. All this takes is a stroke of the executive order pen thru the dept of homeland security. This admin had no problem with hundreds being murdered after Fast & Furious or even Bengazi. Remember Obummer has NOTHING to lose, he doesn’t have to face voters again. I do hope, this never comes to be, but if it is, what are YOU prepared to do?

Posted on January 20, 2013 at 10:04pmIt appears to me that we should join the current hysteria and suggest the evidence shows that all registered Democrats should be confiscated.
We know who they are – they’re registered!
Why is it that those who steal guns, who then go and kill movie goers and children in school have never been a conservative NRA member? Common thread is that all of these shooters were progressive liberal Democrats. INTERESTING…,isn’t it?
Ft Hood -Registered Democrat and Muslim
Columbine -Too young to vote; both families were registered Democrats and progressive liberals
Virginia Tech -Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff – Registered Democrat
Colorado Theater -Registered Democrat; staff worker on the Obama campaign; Occupy Wall Street participant; progressive liberal
Connecticut School Shooter -Registered Democrat; hated Christians
