Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) sat down with HuffPost Live Friday, where he made a noteworthy statement about the rapidly-growing National Rifle Association.

Responding to interviewer Alicia Menendez’s question about whether Schumer’s colleagues are “willing to admit” that the NRA is a “fringe group,” the senator responded: “Well they sure are a fringe group, but whether enough of my colleagues are ready to admit that, I’m not sure.”

He continued: “They are a very extreme group. They don’t even represent average gun holders.”

The two proceeded to discuss certain gun control measures and Schumer’s intention to “push hard” to get them passed.

The Huffington Post summarizes:

The New York Democrat [said] that when he worked on the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, which went into effect in 1994, the NRA “had such power that they filled it up with loopholes.” The Brady Law required background checks for firearm purchasers.

“Now 40 percent of the guns that are sold in America have no check, even felons can get them,” Schumer said. “If we can plug that up, that would be great.”

Schumer told HuffPost Live he would like to see the number of bullets in a clip limited and assault weapons banned as well, but that he thinks universal background checks will probably be the easiest measure to pass through the House and the one that would have the most impact.

“We’re going to push hard to get that one done and even through the House,” he said.

The NRA says its membership has grown by roughly 250,000 people in just the past month. On Saturday, thousands of Second Amendment supporters rallied across the country in support of their rights.

Prior to the Civil War black Americans could not own firearms, therefore they could not protect themselves.

1863 Emancipation Proclamation changed that, black American’s had the same legal rights as everyone else. That remained true through the war and Reconstruction. With the end of Reconstruction came Black Codes in the same states that had ceded. These codes took the right to own firearms away from black Americans.

1871 Civil Rights Act changed that. In the same year a shooting club formed and begin a project to arm black Americans and teach them how to safely handle the weapons. Today we call that shooting club the National Rifle Association.

If an organization of 4 million or more members is a fringe group then Senator Schumer is the leader of a fringe group since he received the votes of 3,047,775 fringe liberals in the 2010 election.

hmmm, I have taken an oath to support and defend the Constitution, served over 20 years in the US Armed Forces, never arrested, assisted those in need, never took a bribe or been involved in a shady land deal, the list goes on and on… AND I’m a proud Life Member of the National Rifle Association.

I can also read and understand the English language, so the Second Amendment is not a mystery to me as it seems to be to all these morally lost public servants who have established themselves as a ruling class which is counter to our form of government.

No longer do we really hear about the radical Islamists in the media, but rather we are hearing about how the National Rifle Association is a terrorist organization or how Christians or people that believe in the Constitution or those that believe in the Second Amendment are the real terrorists in America. Well now, that is being put into practice.

WSAZ reports that a mock training exercise in which an operation was conducted near Municipal Stadium in Portsmouth on Thursday. The drille involved a dead science teacher and weapons of mass destruction.

The Ohio Army National Guard and responders in hazmat suits played out the drill.

According to WSAZ:

The mock disaster training exercise is being done with Scioto County first responders and the Ohio Army National Guard 52nd Civil Support Unit.

“It’s the reality of the world we live in,” says Portsmouth Police Chief Bill Raisin. “Don’t forget there is such a thing as domestic terrorism. This helps us all be prepared.”

The make-believe scenario is timely. Two school employees who are disgruntled over the government’s interpretation of the Second Amendment, plot to use chemical, biological and radiological agents against members of the local community.
