Democratic Assemblyman Arrested After Allegedly Threatening to Shoot Fellow State Representative

A Nevada assemblyman has been arrested after allegedly intimidating a fellow state representative with physical violence, KTNV relates.

Several reports, including the Las Vegas Sun, say 40-year-old assemblyman Steven Brooks was arrested with a loaded gun after threatening to shoot Democratic Speaker-elect Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

The city of North Las Vegas released this bulletin:

On January 19, 2013 at about 3:45 p.m. officers responded to a home in the northwestern part of North Las Vegas in reference to a report of threats to an elected public official. It was reported that Assemblyman Steven Brooks (40) of North Las Vegas made threats to harm a fellow State representative.

During the course of the preliminary investigation, officers received corroborating witness statements supporting the victim’s report and began a search for Brooks. At about 5:30 p.m., Brooks was seen driving in the area of Carey Avenue and Mt. Hood Street, where he was taken into custody without incident during a traffic stop. Brooks was transported to the Las Vegas City Jail and booked on one count of intimidating a public officer by threat of physical violence (NRS 199.300).  [Emphasis added]

The Las Vegas sun continues:

Brendan Summers, executive director of the Assembly Democratic Caucus, released a statement saying, “We understand an investigation is currently ongoing, and we have no further comment at this time.â€

Democratic sources with knowledge of the caucus said that Brooks’ behavior in caucus meetings had been “erratic” and leadership had begun documenting his behavior.

Brooks was first elected in 2010. He represents Assembly District 17.

Brooks had served as an assistant for Las Vegas City Councilman Ricki Barlow. He currently works as a management analyst with the city of Las Vegas for the Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department. His gross wage for 2011, when he also served for four months in the Legislature, was $32,873, according to transparentnevada.com. His wages for 2012 won’t be available until Tuesday, Las Vegas officials said.

Insiders say the assemblyman, who reportedly has four children, was unhappy with the committee assignments he was given by Kirkpatrick.

Assembly Majority Leader William Horne, D-Las Vegas, said Sunday that law enforcement is providing security for the threatened party.

“Ms. Kirkpatrick is being watched until it is deemed not necessary,” he said. “Law enforcement has been dispatched to my home as well. Obviously something has risen to a level where it is better to be safe than sorry.”

    I’m surprised that no one until now, has noted the hypocrisy of these two-faced DemonicRat scombuckets. While some of you fight to protect your 2ND Amendment Rights, while others sit on their fanny’s chewing their fingernails, these Las Vegas pissants are –

      “The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that the police did not have a constitutional duty to protect a person from harm.” – Remove all security from Kirkpatrick and Horne. Think they are having 2nd thoughts on the 2nd amendment and defending themselves.

      I called the Sheriff awhile back and reported that someone was apparently breaking into the house next door. A deputy showed up about an hour later and came to my house without even checking the neighbor,s house first.

    It appears to me that we should join the current hysteria and suggest the evidence shows that all registered Democrats should be confiscated.

    We know who they are – they’re registered!

      Obama should be joining him in a padded cell!

      As a matter of fact, Obama should be found unstable by psychiatrists/psychologists and removed from office on mental instability grounds.

      there’s certainly more evidence of Obama’s mental instability and level of threat to himself & others than there was with Brandon Raub.

      At the very least, Obama should be forced to undergo a range of independent psychiatric testing and evaluation for several weeks or months before being allowed anywhere near the “red button” and the other levers of deadly force and destructive potential the POTUS has available. Obama’s actions since gaining office proves he’s obviously a megalomaniac.

      I say that if the WH is going to have that stupid petition page, start a WH petition to have Obama forcibly tested for mental instability/insanity/psychoses/sociopathic behavior. I bet it will hit the 100K signature requirement quickly. I also bet there’s no way they’d let an actual psychiatrist or clinical psychologist within a thousand meters of Obama, and for good reason!

      Obama would not be able to own a gun under his own gun policies. Kinda rules out being C&C of the entire US Armed Forces and thermonuclear arsenal, now, doesn’t it?

      Far from the only problem this crappy website has. Seriously, who designed it? Aside from the login bug it also has one of the worst commenting systems I have ever seen in my life. The layout is horrible and this is the only place that I have to wait 5+ minutes for a comment to show up.

      Additionally this website is HORRIBLE with Android phones. Haven’t tried it recently because it’s just too painful, but this site would constantly force close my browser. Why have an Android app if this site is not even compatible with Android phones?!
