TheBlaze has featured myriad stories on strange designs in the Earth like crop circles and China’s mysterious desert formations (seen only by satellites). Today we offer you something much less mysterious, but still filled with wonder and magic.
Some call them ‘Snow Circles.’ Others have referred to them as ‘Snow Quilts.’ We just think they’re amazing.

The patterns in the snow are the work of just one man, artist Simon Beck. Using snow shoes, Beck will trod about in the snow for hours, stomping out the designs. He has been doing this in Savoie, France near a the Les Arcs ski resort.

The designs are typically larger than three soccer fields, requiring between 5-9 hours of very physical work. And they rarely last longer than a day. These works of art are truly ephemeral, disappearing with each new snowfall or taken away by the wind that blows through the valley beneath Mont Blanc.
Thanks to the Internet, Simon Beck’s work has been recognized around the world. He was even named the #1 Breakout Artist of 2012 by MyModernMet.com.

Why does Simon Beck spend his days stomping perfect geometric patterns in the snow? He explained it on Facebook:
“The main reason for making them was because I can no longer run properly due to problems with my feet, so plodding about on level snow is the least painful way of getting exercise. Gradually, the reason has become photographing them, and I am considering buying a better camera”.
Talk about finding the door that opened when another one closed…

These demanded hard work, intense thought, perfect execution, and the love of art. Yet hardly anyone gets to see it. That…is love of art.

Jan. 20, 2013 at 10:12pm@ThatsItIveHadEnough – Did you even read the article? From your comment I’m thinking you didn’t. It’s art not some UFO. Why does everything on here have to revolve around politics, we all know what’s going on, and we need a diversion otherwise we will go nuts. Reading day in and day out of what “That Guy” has and is doing to our country get weigh heavy on you. Take a break and relax.

Jan. 21, 2013 at 8:53amBecause this was supposed to be a site where you can go for “real” news no one else was covering. This type of fluff is splattered all over the internet, TV, and e-mail in-boxes. There is no reason for it to be posted again here. If this is the only site you are visiting for all of your news, to the point that you need some diversionary articles, you need to learn how to use the search bar.
When this first started, it was article after article of reports and news articles involving anything other than fluff. Then on occasion you’d get an “aww, shucks” article. Now, the RSS feed is at least 60% crap.
The only reason to visit this site is to laugh at how stupid it has gotten.
