Sen. Ted Cruz: Obama Started Trying to ‘Exploit’ Newtown Tragedy ‘Within Minutes’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) on Sunday accused President Barack Obama of starting “within minutes” to “exploit” the Newtown, Conn. elementary school massacre for political gain.

“Within minutes of that horrible tragedy in Newtown, the president began trying to exploit that tragedy to push a gun control agenda that is designed to appeal to partisans, designed to appeal to his political partisans,” Cruz said on NBC’s “Meet the Press.”

Obama’s only vow on the day of the shooting last month was to take “meaningful action” to prevent future tragedies. He formally rolled out his gun control proposals last week, which included calls for new bans on “military-style assault weapons” and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Cruz said the new proposals “would have done zero to prevent the crime in Newtown.”

“Number two, many of the provisions are contrary to the constitutional protections of the Second Amendment, and number three, they don’t work,” he said.

Cruz, who was elected in November with Tea Party support, has been at the forefront of the anti-gun control fight. On “Meet the Press,” he called the expired assault weapons ban one of the “least successful bills that has ever put in place.”

“When the ban expired there were roughly 700 murders using all rifles,” he said. “Today there are roughly 300, that’s less than half — this is not designed to actually solve the problem of violent crime, this is designed to assuage liberal partisans who want to push gun control.”

  Ok before we get all conspiracy crazy. This is just word from some senator against gun control. He wasn’t with Obama within minutes of the shooting. He probably didn’t see him all day. And all Obama did that day was pledge to take meaningful action. Its just an attack by the senator to try and demonize and make illigitimate the gun control debate.

This guy will exploit any opportunity to wound the nation so that his rage against it will be assuaged. I think it is abundantly clear that he is bent on the destruction of America. For you doubters, quit listening to what he says and start watching what he does. He is a liar, a fraud, and a despot as tyrannical as any of the monsters we witnessed in the 20th century.   Actually the President of the United States did not make a statement “within minutes.” That is a flat out lie, obviously false on the surface. Just going by memory here he spoke publicly seven or eight hours after the murders. I guess “within minutes” comment was meant to bring out and support the conspiracy theorists, as provably false as that statement is (even Romney waited a couple of hours before blaming President Obama – not terrorists – for the Benghazi attack). In any case, Presidents generally address issues after national tragedies. It’s a new phenomenon to call that “exploitation.”
  
  I appreciate the smart politics of claiming that talking about gun after mass murders with semi-automatic guns with high capacity clips are “exploiting” the dead and saying that it’s disrespectful to the people with their brains blown out to make any comments about gun control. It’s smart that those event happen so regularly that, according to this logic, no one can ever talk about gun control.
  
  What’s ironic about Cruz’s statement that is that he says he’s offended that the President spoke about gun control given all the bullet ridden dead kids, he, in the same interview expressed support for the NRA position that President Obama’s kids should be DEAD center in the gun debate, you know, because they have Secret Service protection. He’s okay with the President’s children being brought into the scope and says that’s not “exploitation.”

That interview was infuriating. Ted Cruz had the perfect opportunity to go on the offense with David Gregory and he didn’t do it. He could have destroyed Gregory’s credibility by simply asking him why he didn’t play the entire NRA ad. Or better yet, demand he play the entire ad to expose Gregory’s hypocrisy and obsfucation f the fact that the ad showed HIM as being one of the elites who send his own kids to private schools with armed security. And THEN Cruz let Gregory get away with saying Obama’s kids are protected by the Secret Service. David Gregory sends is kids to the same schoo the Obama’s send ther kids to. Sidwell Friends. It’s been all over the place that they have 11 armed guards.
Republicans should require that all of their elected officials go to Media School before going o television.

What a wasted opportunity.

All employee and vendor vehicles coming onto the school campus get searched by the gate entrance guard. All people must walk through the main school campus entrance and go through a metal detector. Mutliple metal detectors and turnstile entrance ways can be employed. This way, no gun or other metal weapon can ever make it onto a school campus. All bags/backpacks/brief cases would be hand searched.

To ban all weapons from both in and around a school leaving all those inside defenseless, or to have armed guards at the school who can respond in an instant to any threat. The liberal progressive elites in this country send their children to schools that have armed guards, but want to deny average Americans of the same protection for their children. I mean if you have a brain in your head the answer is an obvious one. However you prove once again that the progressive liberal argument is not based in reality but only on emotion and is bereft of any logical thought. To liken armed security for the protection of America’s children to a “prison camp” is completely and utterly ridiculous.

This is the New Deal to liberals – liberals claim that all of the entitlement programs would have run great if their had just been a progressive dictator in power for the last 80 years. The problem with that is we have a Republic form of government where people are elected democratically. Thus instituting long term programs to “secure” the future for elderly or “protect” us from terrorists is completely irrational. These acts were done under the guise of security & safety. Now we have bigger government, we are not safer and both parties leading us there.
  
  Blackcrow don’t measure a bill, law or program by “who” creates it because Democrats and Republicans can make government bigger. Measure from a philosophy, because it is then done from principle and consistency.

  Pray tell me why? No one denies that Barack’s children are a prime target. HOWEVER, given the tacit go-ahead the Barack Gang has given to those contributing to social chaos, all the children in America are now potential targets BECAUSE all gun-free zones are now potential targets.
  
  Anyone acquainted with terrorist tactics knows that there is no better target for a terrorist than a child. So thanks to Barack’s nonaction in the face of anarchy both at home and abroad, ALL children in America as well as ALL Americans abroad are especially vulnerable to terrorist attacks.

After the initial feeling of horror after hearing of the Newtown murders how many of you just KNEW that this event would be used as a gun grab moment by the left? I thought it and shortly after was proven correct in my assumption by Obama, his media hacks and his political allies.

  I only hope that conservatives battle this all out BEFORE the next campaign. Only if conservatives UNITE and organize will they have a chance of beating the international radicals who now control the Democrat party . They have international best buddies , tons of money , AND the liberal international media behind them. That is how Obama got droned into the White House in the first place. Fight now. UNITE later!   That’s a lie! How else would they explain Barack’s win? His arenas were half-empty. The polls showed a very tight race that could go either way. Even women had come to their senses and were switching to our side. It was Barack’s disenchanted voters who stayed home, NOT ours.

IMO that’s because he and his Chicage goons were responsible for the murders of those innocent babies and adults. I totally believe that the government was in some way behind every sing mass killings since 2011 for one resons on another. I know no one wants to think in those terms about their elected officials, but the big power players are ruthless, sneeky, cold hearted and masters of lying and deception. They will stop short of nothing to achieve their goals and if you, I, or even school children need to be sacrificed to those ends, it bye-bye baby. Open your eyes America, you’re under attack from within.

  Very funny, but let’s be honest. I think that anyone with two functioning brain cells that share at least one neuron a day knows very well that this was well in the works even before the Liar-in-Chief tried to claim that he would not be trying to violate the Second Amendment during the debates last fall. His body language clearly showed that even though he was expecting it, it was a “gotcha moment” and he had to go into spin recovery mode and resort to rehearsed talking points. The tell is the funny pinching gesture that he so often does with his fingers. This is his outward manifestation of mentally referring to his notes when he cannot speak openly and honestly about a topic.

He is absolutely correct .. Obama and the Dems and MSM were blaming guns (not the mentally deranged shooter) before those children’s bodies had even been removed from the school .. it was a VILE and DISGUSTING display of never let a crisis go to waste.

  You got that right……………. they could care less about the deaths of those babies and adults… their total focus and goal was specificlt to get people all fired up about guns so they can go for the 2nd amendment rights of American citizens. These people cannot be trusted to be honest with us. Everything they do we get lied to about, or the truth is with held until THEY decided we can be told about it.
