(AP) — A horrific scene awaited officers responding to an emergency call at a New Mexico home – five family members dead, all with multiple gunshot wounds. The victims were later identified as parents and their three young children and the suspected attacker as their 15-year-old son.

Investigators trying to piece together what led to the violence late Saturday night found several guns believed used in the shootings, including one assault rifle, Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said Sunday. The owner of the weapons hasn’t been determined.

“There’s no other way to say it, except that we have a horrific crime scene down there that we are working on,” said Houston.

Nehemiah Griego, 15, was arrested on murder charges following the shootings at the residence in a rural area southwest of downtown Albuquerque, the sheriff’s department said.

Authorities identified the victims as Greg Griego, 51, his wife Sara Griego, 40, and three of their children: a 9-year-old boy, Zephania Griego, and daughters Jael Griego, 5, and Angelina Griego, 2.

“Right now we’re to the meticulous points of processing the scene and collecting physical evidence, and this is a vast scene with a lot of physical evidence,” Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Sid Covington said Sunday.

Word of the shootings traveled quickly through the law enforcement community, and officials began offering their condolences for Greg Griego, a spiritual leader known for his work with firefighters and the 13 years he spent as a volunteer chaplain at the county jail.

“Chaplain Griego was a dedicated professional that passionately served his fellow man and the firefighters of this community,” Fire Chief James Breen said in a statement. “His calming spirit and gentle nature will be greatly missed.”

Jail Chief Ramon Rustin said Griego was instrumental in the creation of the Metropolitan Detention Center’s chaplain program and worked to get inmates integrated back into the community.

Griego also was a former member of the pastoral staff at Calvary, a Christian church in Albuquerque. As part of his work there, he oversaw the Straight Street program for jail inmates.

On Sunday, a police roadblock cut off public access to the narrow dirt road that leads to the home, which is surrounded by trees and an agricultural field on one side.

Neighbors said they saw the first police cars and ambulances arrive at the home Saturday night. The road was blocked and word of the shootings began to make its way through the neighborhood.

Peter Gomez, a 54-year-old carpenter who lives about 200 yards from the home, said he had seen the family – a husband and wife and their four children – pass by many times but didn’t know them personally.

“It’s a horrible thing,” Gomez said. “You see all this stuff that happens all over the country, the shootings in the schools and theaters, and then it happens right here. It’s sad.”

Authorities declined to release details of any conversation that the 15-year-old had with investigators, but they said he was the Griegos’ son. The sheriff’s office said he is charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.

The sheriff’s office said it wouldn’t release any further information about the case until Sheriff Dan Houston holds a news conference Tuesday morning.

Associated Press writer Jacques Billeaud in Phoenix contributed to this report.

Keep in mind, the MSM is out there looking for every crime possible, where an AR could be used.

They ignore reality, in that of the average 100 murders in the US, rifle of all designes are used less than 3 times. I will say it again, of all murders in the US, rifles are used in less than 3% of them. Last year, more people were killed in America with knives, than with rifles.

So why is it that Obama and crew want the rifles, but ignore the over 6000 murders with pistols?

Last year in the US, half of those murdered were black, and most were young black males.

In the US, blacks make up 12.5% of the population, and do 1/2 of all murders. If we could lower black murder rates to the same as whites, we would lower the national murder per capita rate by 40%, and save so many black lives. I sure would like to save black lives, how about you? Nothing will be done about it, until people become vocal about it.

There is no such thing as an atavistic criminal (born criminal). Crime is not genetic.

While it is not genetic, we do know that our violent crime in America is intrinsically tied to our welfare population and democrat initiated programs like federal housing.

Seems to me that most of these recent mass shootings are primarily in Blue states. Yet another reason to live (and I mean that literally) in a Red state! Naturally, the media will blame this on guns. How about we finally admit it might have something to do with progressive indoctrination in liberal public schools while being raised by union parents in a Democratic state!

I’ve said this before, and I’ll say it again. This not a gun problem. This a cultural and moral problem, wherein society (we the people), not Government, needs reform. There were more guns in the hands of citizens during the revolution and afterwards then there is now, and there wasn’t blood spilling on the streets, except against tyrants and their minions. In fact, there was very little or no crime in most neighborhoods. Even up until the 1960β€²s students would go to school with their .22 rifles, or shotguns in their pickup trucks, and kids would not shoot each other heads off just for the heck of it. For the most part, a respect for the life and liberty of others, and a sound knowledge of good and bad, was instilled from a very young age, and all through out school. Obviously, our nation is facing a moral and religious crisis, not a β€˜gun problem’. By the way, there’s no such thing as β€˜gun violence’. We don’t address drunk driving by calling it car violence, but confront the drivers responsible, punish their actions, and in most cases petition the court to obligate them to attend driving classes and alcohol treatment classes. We punish the individual for his acts, not the public and their property.

β€œA good man out of the good treasure of the heart bringeth forth good things: and an evil man out of the evil treasure bringeth forth evil things.”

Noticed that this story did not identify the actual weapon or weapons used. Pulled up several other stories and naturally HuffPo mentioned that several guns were found in the home, and ONE was a military styled weapon. Other articles gave a very brief over view of the story then jumped into Sandy Hook to and straight to AR15s.

One of the most obvious signs of ignorance is an individual who lets their ideology get in the way of their brain. So you sleep better at night using terms like “libs” and equating them to satan. Here’s a thought how about considering how a 15 year old could have had such easy access to an assault weapon. In most states it is illegal for a 15 year old to buy a cigarettes and beer and can’t drive a car. While I don’t believe there is a need to ban any particular gun there is a need to have every gun registered and the registered owner held criminally and civilly liable for any criminal activity their gun was involved in, unless they report the gun stolen within 72 hours. There is no reason this gun should not have been kept under lock and key.

So what if a 15 year old stole car keys, and use a car to run up on a sidewallk, and run a bunch of people over? What if a 15 year old used house hold chemicals to poison folks. What if they made a bomb?

This whole “assault weapon” is a term used by folks who are ignorant. Had he grabbed a short barrled pump shotgun intended for deer hunting, and killed a whole family, would you call it an “assault weapon”? In the dark of night, had he slipped through the house, and beat people to death with a seven iron, would it be an “assault golf club”? “Assault” is an action, not an object.

“There is no such thing as an atavistic criminal (born criminal). Crime is not genetic.” – I would disagree with that, Ranger. There are people who are genetically predisposed to violence. A study done at Chino State Prison in California (the results of which were censored to the MSM by the NAACP, alleging they were “racist) showed a link between having violent offenders in one’s background overrode upbringing in a sampling of white male adoptees who were convicted of violent crimes. Each of these offenders had been taken out of their bio-parents’ home and placed in infancy with normal, middle- to upper-middle class families in which there was no history of crime – and every one started showing signs of psychopathy by age 6.

MSM only exploits “white gun crime” with “assault rifles” while they ignore Chicago. Definition of “assault”; a : a violent physical or verbal attack
b : a military attack usually involving direct combat with enemy forces
c : a concerted effort (as to reach a goal or defeat an adversary)
      2
a : a threat or attempt to inflict offensive physical contact or bodily harm on a person (as by lifting a fist in a threatening manner) that puts the person in immediate danger of or in apprehension of such harm or contact.
Ban all “assault words, rocks, sticks, knives, cars, fists, in Bush’s case(shoes), rope, candlesticks, poison, baseball bats, hockey, football, wrenches, bows and arrows, axes, nun chucks, and of most of all, bow staffs. Then we can all live in harmony and no one will ever be hurt.

With gradual increased frequency, reports are being released without inclusion of the suspect’s ID/name. In many instances the suspect is already in custody and still the identification is withheld. Choosing an underage teen for the purpose of demonization is very convenient because they then have the customized excuse to protect his identity. Not only is the teen demonized, but of all those β€œevil” weapons that β€œmust be immediately confiscated before any other innocent is victimized” is especially demonized. They first began releasing reports without a photo ID… now, the name is also often excluded, or unidentifiable. This creates the ideal environment for free reign to artificially generate the news to feed to the masses for the purpose of social engineering to fit a particular political agenda; to cue the sheeple into one direction or the other… depending on what best suits the malevolent objective. After all, without a name/ID, reports cannot be validated… subsequently, the ulterior motive is easily and brilliantly accomplished.

That being said, I will comment on its content nonetheless.

There is much work published explaining the best way to deter violent psychopathic outbursts is to refrain from glorifying [reporting on] the perpetrator and to instead focus solely on the non-distinguishable characteristics of the attack and/or its victims. This disincentivizes future attention seeking sociopaths from following suit because infamy no longer becomes an achievable outcome.

Even if the Obama administration is successful with their legislation, murders will still occur and they will continue to be used to further limit the 2nd Amendment.

I always see people thinking others are crazy for believing the government could orchestrate such evil events in an effort to PAVE a way towards a goal. Why is it so crazy to believe such things given that ALL mankind has to propensity for evil and usually apply it? We always have seen evil manifest itself through government all throughout history… The Nazi regime under Hitler, the entire Mao regime and Stalin regime, and the late Roman empire are just a few. Was it a conspiracy theory at the time to say that: “Hitler was behind the ‘night of long knives?’” Or is it just everyone else out there that is evil and no evil exists within America? It is always the same story with human beings, it can happen ANYWHERE ELSE but once it happens at home they bury their head and yell in anger at anyone who points out the possibility to them.

I keep an open mind. Will I jump to the conclusion that the government was somehow involved with mass shootings? No. But will I keep that possibility open as realistic, yes. Hell, we see and recognize “Fast and Furious” for what it is, a government conspiracy to cover up the fact that they were gun running. We see the whole Benghazi incident where the administration left some of my brothers to die and are trying desperately to ignore it and/or cover it up now. Are those things conspiracy theories? Government is not the good. Hence why many believe in small government. They are capable of ANYTHING… keep an open mind. Always.

I agree that there is way too much coincidence and ‘good’ timing with the amount of killings, types of killings (children, adults, celeb’s), and the weapon “of choice” used. First off this kid could have easily gotten the job done by use of a 9mm, but that’s for another time. The Gov. is after the AR platform because it’s the weapon that puts the average civilian on the playing field with the military choice of weapon. But let it be clear that the Middle Eastern people are far above ‘experts’ on URBAN fighting, and their #1 choice is the 9mm round – for a huge reason.

Although I’m uncertain that Pelosi just hands people huge amounts of money to “kill”, I wouldn’t put it past a power with an agenda to “guarantee a life time of comfort” for that person’s remaining family. More so I believe that these “so called ” killings that are popping up are as staged (and faked) as every reality show produced. We’re dealing with a power that has George Lucas on their side. By use of propaganda and proper full blown movie magic, the Gov. is able (whether they do or not – they ARE able) to drum up faked mass killings all over and report as real. Then, simply clean off the makeup and assign the ‘actors’ to a new life of luxury. So “tin foil” or “not” – it can easily be done, and especially with a Country so full of Lemmings who actually believe that reality shows are..uh…real.

So good post Platonician, there are many who believe as you do.

Why can’t it just be that the 15yo boy was sick in the head? Is it so hard to simply believe in the simplest explanation that you have to invent contrived fantasies that do more harm than good? The truth is that getting rid of certain weapons won’t stop the crimes from being committed but only change how they are committed. Conspiracy theories like this are what’s sending all the moderates into the arms of the left. Quite frankly with talk like that I am start to become more and more ashamed of identifying myself as right leaning when there are just too many Birther and Truther whackjobs that also claim to be right leaning. Hmmmmm, we do know though that the gov killed Seventy-six men, women and children in Waco, Texas.

Can you believe just how racist the MSM is?

Day after day, blacks are murdered across the land, and not a peep from the MSM. It is as if they want to keep it a secret.

I am sure MTV is proud though, being for the past three decades, they have over and over shown the black man to be a thuggish brute, who has bitches and hoes, how treats women badly, sells drugs, takes part in gang activity, and does see after his own family. MTV is racist, and has perpetuated stereotyping against the black man.

      Keep it real.

I don’t know what happened in this particular case, but there is a lot of evidence to suggest the Sandy Hook shooting was NOT the work of a lone gunman. Here is the best work done so far on the Sandy Hook shooting and it blows the β€œlone gunman” scenario out of the water. Eat your heart out Glenn Beck. Eat your heart out lamestream media. Here is what you all should have been doing from day one when this story broke. Please share this video with everyone you can because America has been lied to:

      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EwIvy1GXRU&list=PLEC70437FC0A27241&index=1

The lone nutjob scenario is one thing, bringing a kind of closure to the story where the authorities can spoon feed a story of a lone madman to the gullible (or complicit?) media and then it is written in stone ever after to be used by those further their agenda. But a multiple shooter scenario is an entirely different animal altogether. Such a scenario speaks not of a lone, crazed gunman, but an organized, cold, calculating, unfathomable undercurrent of evil.

Beware America. Evil is on the loose. It has an agenda. And the mainstream media is playing see no evil, hear no evil, report no evil.

I won’t stand up for the government. The government has done unspeakable things. Waco and Ruby Ridge are two perfect examples of government evil at it’s most evil. You won’t hear me standing around praising big brother for keeping me safe. You also won’t hear me looking for conspiracies where there are none to be had. This is one of those times. This crime had nothing to do with black people, MTV, violent video games, violent movies, or lack of religion. It has everything to do with a sick kid that would have grown up to kill people regardless of whether he had access to an assault rifle or not.

Btw, the last time I checked, the only think MTV was really promoting is that New Jersey is filled with idiots like Snookie and Jwoww. You’re like a decade behind in your scatological rhetoric.

Noam Chomsky on propaganda and manipulation, from his book “Manufacturing Consent” we can trust him in this case, his followers have the power now.

“To start with, there are two different groups, we can get into more detail, but at the first level of approximation, there’s two targets for propaganda. One is what’s sometimes called the political class. There’s maybe twenty percent of the population which is relatively educated, more or less articulate, plays some kind of role in decision-making. They’re supposed to sort of participate in social life — either as managers, or cultural managers like teachers and writers and so on. They’re supposed to vote, they’re supposed to play some role in the way economic and political and cultural life goes on. Now their consent is crucial. So that’s one group that has to be deeply indoctrinated. Then there’s maybe eighty percent of the population whose main function is to follow orders and not think, and not to pay attention to anything — and they’re the ones who usually pay the costs.”

Let me put it this way: Fast & Furious was true and we never would have found out, except for a whistle blower (who BTW was fired after the fact). There was the initial cover-up and then a cover-up of the cover-up.

I don’t know about this case. It may be a drug-related crime. We won’t know if the criminals in the WH and DOJ are involved. However, it is a fact that the media is exploiting any crime committed with semi-automatic weapons.

Twenty-nine children have died of the flu already, and we’re only half-way through this season. The elderly are being hit especially hard, but they are expendable. I know your telling the truth about the discrepancy in murder rates between whites and blacks. Heck, I am NOT even calling you a racist, because I don’t believe you are one. I am saying that we need a little less, “THE BLACKS ARE KILLING EACH OTHER!!!” and a little more, “What can we do to solve the problem that has NOTHING to do with taking people’s guns?” Also, the African-American murder rate probably doesn’t have anything to do with this story, since they haven’t release the race of the kid as far as I know. Also, if you want to know something interesting, the vast majority of all serial killers tend to be white males. Female and black serial killers are super rare. So maybe there is something to be learned there as well.

The proof is in the pudding, knucklehead. The proof is already apparent in the steady increase of unidentifiable suspects and unverifiable reports. This is rather new and so it is not difficult to see the gradual transformation in journalism. It was not long ago that respectable journalism required the basic facts… anything less was dismissed as weak and unprofessional. Even you should be able to see it eventually… unless you are too distracted following along with all the other mindless, putty-brained sheeple. You just have to start observing the increasing number of such reports to see it… even someone with a lazy brain will be able to see the pattern and the potential for social manipulation.

You are wrong. Black killing blacks has everything to do with the current topics on gun control, murder, mass killings….

It is 50% of the national murder per capita rate. Thus it matters.

Libs like to tell you that we have the highest murder per capita rate in the industrialized world, but they never tell you who is doing the killing, or being killed.

The murder and violent crimes is tied to the hip with those on welfare and democrat socialism programs.

Multiculturalism in the public schools, welfare, violent rap music, MTV….. all play a hand in the current murder rates, but the MSM and democrats want to paint it as a gun owning white problem.

I will continue to spout the same statistics on every gun article the Blaze puts out. You may not know it, but my statistics (word for word) are now appearing all over the internet. People are copying and pasting what I write, and using it in other blogs and on all manner of internet sites.

So what did poor people in America do, prior to LBJ and the libs, deciding to hand our my tax money to the lazy people?

If you do a little study, you will find that they were not starving to death, but they also were not the fattest people in the nation like the poor are now.

You do not end welfare overnight, you do it systematically. You shut down the border, and you start transitioning the welfare crowd over to the jobs the illegal immigrants were doing.

It is a win win situation. We fix immigration, lower crime, and lower taxes, and the fat welfare folks wil lose weight when they get off the couch.

He was 15. If he was “watching violent movies” or “playing violent video games” it’s because his parents bought them for him. You can’t buy R-rated films, see them in theaters or buy MA-rated games when you’re 15 years old.

Additionally, there is no link between violent video games, violent movies or “violent” music causing real life violence in anyone. Not one study. Not one shred of proof. It’s merely an insane claim made by people who would rather limit the first amendment than limit the second amendment.

You’re never going to legally say, “You can’t make violent movies or video games.” Ever. Not ever.

As for the drugs comment, well, there is no link between drugs and violence. Rather, if this kid WAS on drugs it was his DISEASE that led to this, not the drugs that were helping him. People like you, who think vaccinations cause Autism and spout obvious lies backed up by no evidence, are the worst kind of human beings. You’d rather believe in a conspiracy theory that is obviously based on lies than accept the truth. It’s sad, and I’m sorry for you :(

      @RANEPOWEL

You said “Not one study. Not one shred of proof.” that watching violent TV shows, movies, or playing violent video games has any effect on people’s propensity for crime.

I can debink that with a quick google:

“A study in the March issue of Psychological Bulletin, a journal of the American Psychological Association, shows that playing violent video games increases violent thinking, attitudes and behaviors among players. And it does nothing to promote positive social behaviors.”

      http://voices.washingtonpost.com/checkup/2010/03/study_shows_violent_video_game.html

There are obviously many such studies, and there will be many more soon, but I think the most compelling proof can be found in common sense. Do you really think that a violent two hour movie has no effect on the viewer, but a 30 second ad here and there does?

My thoughts and prayers are with the families of those slain in New Mexico, as well as the family of this obviously disturbed young man.

Once it has had time to sink in and he realizes the horror of what he has done and he seeks a way to escape the pain within him, my prayer is that God will make known to him the only way to find salvation and forgiveness through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Please accept that offer young man and know that paradise awaits in the next life. For your life upon this earth may be something close to hell for the remainder of your time here.

I cannot imagine WHY the Albuquerque police would have arrested the Fifteen year old, instead of the guns themselves. Do they NOT know that these guns just up and kill people? These inanimate objects should be tried and convicted for their crimes, after all, if there were no firearms in that home to commit those heinous murders, this poor fifteen year old would not be left holding the criminal culpability. This is such a shame that modern law enforcement cannot fathom what to arrest, and instead choose to arrest a person instead.

Until today the owner of that weapon WAS ‘just like the rest of us’. Until we regulate firearms permits like driving permits, and require them to be renewed and evaluated at intervals, the only time we identify irresponsible gun owners is when the coroner is called.
This debate is going to boil down to whether ‘a well-regulated militia…’ is essential to the Amendment or just a preamble (and no other Amendments have such preambles), and the definition of ‘arms’. It has been established, without judicial dissent, that ‘arms’ can be qualified and defined by the courts. Certain weapons have been deemed illegal for civilians to own. Arguing about that invites questions that are politically toxic; So does our Constitution recognize your neighbor’s right to park a brand new M-1 Abrams main battle tank in his driveway? Should we permit gun shops to hold tent sales offering great low prices on military-grade flamethrowers and nerve-gas-tipped artillery shells? Must the U.S. Government allow you to carry a β€œsuitcase nuke” to avoid violating your fundamental Constitutional rights? Eventually they will ask if one has the right to carry a weapon capable of firing 100 consecutive high-velocity rounds as fast as one can squeeze the trigger? It’s not actually a question about the 2nd. It’s a question of evolving technologies and defining them. The NRA is obviously not ready for that debate. I suppose that’s why the simpletons claim every shooting is a federal

      @MARINE25

The whole “why can’t I buy an Abrams or a tactical nuke?” argument is absolutely absurd. Nobody advocates that kind of policy so by exaggerating second amendment rights to such an extreme is just plain silly. Of course there needs to be legislation and limits placed on “arms” owned by private citizens. We had an assault weapon ban already and it failed. The Brady Bill is the most comprehensive gun legislation we’ve ever had, and it has failed. Chicago and DC tried all out bans and they failed. More laws and more bans is not the answer. Until politicians are willing to sit down and have a serious discussion about the causes and contributing factors to US homocide rates and how we might reduce them, I stand firmly opposed to new restrictive legislation. Somehow you have been fooled into believing that more restrictive laws are a good thing. I’m tired of watching democrats fumble around blindly in the dark passing laws left and right in an emotional and reactionary matter every time something like this happens…and somehow miraculously escaping the blame for the countless hundreds of ineffective gun laws already on the books. They wrote and passed the laws and yet blame their ineffectivity on me and on the NRA. Stop the reactionary politics and take an objective and data driven approach to solving this problem.

You can shoot a .22 just as fast and it is not called an “Assault weapon”. All the people are the militia, and as militia they require sound firearms technology in order to function when called up. Firearms training should be a part of every schools curriculum so the children can be properly prepared for their duties as citizens. The 2nd amendment is not just a right, it is a duty.
