(AP) — A horrific scene awaited officers responding to an emergency call at a New Mexico home – five family members dead, all with multiple gunshot wounds. The victims were later identified as parents and their three young children and the suspected attacker as their 15-year-old son.

Investigators trying to piece together what led to the violence late Saturday night found several guns believed used in the shootings, including one assault rifle, Bernalillo County Sheriff Dan Houston said Sunday. The owner of the weapons hasn’t been determined.

“There’s no other way to say it, except that we have a horrific crime scene down there that we are working on,” said Houston.

Nehemiah Griego, 15, was arrested on murder charges following the shootings at the residence in a rural area southwest of downtown Albuquerque, the sheriff’s department said.

Authorities identified the victims as Greg Griego, 51, his wife Sara Griego, 40, and three of their children: a 9-year-old boy, Zephania Griego, and daughters Jael Griego, 5, and Angelina Griego, 2.

“Right now we’re to the meticulous points of processing the scene and collecting physical evidence, and this is a vast scene with a lot of physical evidence,” Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Lt. Sid Covington said Sunday.

Word of the shootings traveled quickly through the law enforcement community, and officials began offering their condolences for Greg Griego, a spiritual leader known for his work with firefighters and the 13 years he spent as a volunteer chaplain at the county jail.

“Chaplain Griego was a dedicated professional that passionately served his fellow man and the firefighters of this community,” Fire Chief James Breen said in a statement. “His calming spirit and gentle nature will be greatly missed.”

Jail Chief Ramon Rustin said Griego was instrumental in the creation of the Metropolitan Detention Center’s chaplain program and worked to get inmates integrated back into the community.

Griego also was a former member of the pastoral staff at Calvary, a Christian church in Albuquerque. As part of his work there, he oversaw the Straight Street program for jail inmates.

On Sunday, a police roadblock cut off public access to the narrow dirt road that leads to the home, which is surrounded by trees and an agricultural field on one side.

Neighbors said they saw the first police cars and ambulances arrive at the home Saturday night. The road was blocked and word of the shootings began to make its way through the neighborhood.

Peter Gomez, a 54-year-old carpenter who lives about 200 yards from the home, said he had seen the family – a husband and wife and their four children – pass by many times but didn’t know them personally.

“It’s a horrible thing,” Gomez said. “You see all this stuff that happens all over the country, the shootings in the schools and theaters, and then it happens right here. It’s sad.”

Authorities declined to release details of any conversation that the 15-year-old had with investigators, but they said he was the Griegos’ son. The sheriff’s office said he is charged with two counts of murder and three counts of child abuse resulting in death.

The sheriff’s office said it wouldn’t release any further information about the case until Sheriff Dan Houston holds a news conference Tuesday morning.

Associated Press writer Jacques Billeaud in Phoenix contributed to this report.

Oh How convenient that it was a military style ‘assault’ weapon. wow what timing. I don’t believe the media, the president or anyone who wants gun control. They have an agenda. Are the stories going to happen daily now so they’ll have more and more excuses?

Won’t even bet the kid (if he did this) is on some type of ‘mental’ drug (i.e. ADHD, depression, hyper etc). The side effects of those drugs are homicide and suicide, every school killer or mass killer was on some type of brain drug (except for one of the Columbine shooters, his records have never been released).

If several guns were used, why not just tell us what they were? Why say that one of them was similar to an AR -15? This is totally aggravating reporting. Why not just give us the facts, and let us draw our own conclusions?

The whole idea of gun control to prevent murder is absurd. Just google stabbing, murder with hammer and limit the search to just the last week. I did this figuring I’d post a couple for examples but their are hundreds, just last week. Our culture and school systems have taught kids that life is cheap and that they are entitled to their every desire whether they have earned it or not and have taken away consequences when misbehaving. Unless we take our schools and media back from the socialists that are running them I am afraid this country will end like all other that have gone down the Marxist route.

    God save the Republic

Devils Breath aka Scopolamine CIA weaponized it in the 1960′s You do anything you are told, remember nothing, look totally ” normal” to any observer. Holms was definitely treated as was Jarrad Loughner. The wide eyed expression and suicide is the signature. Handlers normally accompany the mark to the target.

I would not put it past this government, they have proven over and over how corrupt, dishonest and untruthful they are and everyone here KNOWS THAT! The ends will justify the means!!!! All this administration sees is THEIR agenda and nothing else. Do you think they care about a few deaths here and there??? Come on… Nothing but ruthless and cold hearted. They don’t even care for their own ambassadors. The ends will justify the means.

    Meanwhile in other news…

Police say an adult driver killed three adults and two children in Charlotte with an AR-15-like SUV Saturday night. Police are sure this was an Assault SUV because just like the AR-15, it was black, tricked out cosmetically, and bore no mechanical similarities at all to real race cars.

Police told the Charlotte Observer that they were trying to determine whether it was the Assault SUV, Assault Slick Road or Assault Tree that ultimately needs to have Executive Orders banning either Black SUV’s, Black Roads or Dark Trees.

β€œWe do know there was more than one weapon involved in the crime, and it appears that one of them was a military-type assault Object similar to an AR-15,” he said.

Congressional outrage has led to multiple bills being submitted that would outlaw black vehicles with brush guards, tailpipes, handholds and 26 gallon tanks of gas (because what civilian really needs 26 gallons of gas). They are certain that this measure will prevent all future Assault-SUV deaths.

    http://www.charlotteobserver.com/2013/01/19/3797316/ems-multiple-fatalities-in-single.html

    2013 Tally (1/20/13 6:30 ET):
    693 Gun Homicides
    2465 Traffic Fatalities
131,433 guns used in self-defense to preserve lives.

They won’t follow your lead. SUV’s are what many news rats drive and SUV’s are not protected by the second amendment which is what news rats, Dear Leader, and Eric “my people” Holder feel so threatened by.

Shoot people with an AR-15 or such and gain fame….. other firearms just as lethal, but doesn’t get the attention promised with any “black rifle”. Need to ban naming the perp and the firearm used in such cases…. would make a difference.

Since fast and furious failed, a new tactic may have the desired effect. Whenever there is a crime where an “AR15 style” gun is in the vicinity blame it all on that gun. Its working so far. The sudden change in CT from “it was all done with a hand gun or hand guns” to “it was all done with an AR15″ was interesting to say the least. How could seasoned cops who saw 9mm and or .40 call brass all over the floors of the rooms actually be looking at .223 rifle casings (about three times the size in length) without knowing it until the coroner informed them by examining the bodies? Impossible, thats how.

Tell me this, anti gun people. How did he get the guns? I highly doubt he got them legally at all. So then he got them illegally. Which means that a gun ban wouldnt have worked on stopping this. The only thing that stops criminals with guns, is good people with guns. Gun bans have not shown that they stop people from killing each other at all. The second ammendment was NOT talking about the right to have arms to go hunting. It is to defend your family and rise up against a corrupt government. It is the most immportant ammendment of the constitution, as it is the only one that can help restore the others, if the government decides to remove them. Any item is dangerous, depending on how you use it. This guy with a handgun is far more dangerous than a guy with a “assault rifle” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLk1v5bSFPw

All we had to do was keep the assault weapon ban active and this kid would’ve had to use another type of weapon. This is why a total gun ban is going to happen. Not now. But soon. We’ll keep pushing these murders to the front and center and people will be BEGGING to give up there guns. All except you guys, the 10% fringe group :)

I smell another false flag operation. Once again, the AR-15 was used. Twenty years back it was always an AK-47.

I will bet dollars to donuts that pychotropic drugs were involved, but this information will be kept hidden.

Also, as with the Aurora incident, the “perp” was found alive. Virtually no information of any value has come out regarding James Holmes background. Strange that Holmes didn’t off himself, but was blissfully calm when captured.

A graduate student involved in studies of neuroscience and studies of the brain, suddenly snapping and going on a rampage? Not likely, unless he was a guinea pig in the study, and was some kind of MK-Ultra type of volunteer. Like in that movie, “Telefon”, or “Salt”.

Every day something else happens, and it stinks more and more. It stinks worse that the dumpster out behind the crab shack. And it doesn’t take a Nostradamus to predict that more will be happening, and at just the right moment.

Twice could be coincidence; three or more similar events, with the same mode of operaton, indicates upper level planning.

Please consider checking out the Youtube video, The Sandy Hook Shooting Fully Exposed, and decide for yourself. 10 million views in the last ten days tells me that either we are crazy by the millions or we are awakening by the millions.

Slip a Ruger 10/22 into an Archangel stock and it looks like an “assault rifle” but that doesn’t make it one. Speaking of which , what are 10/22 owners suppose to do in NY now that they are criminals for having 10 round mags ?
Paratrooper M1 carbines were our first closest thing to being an assault rifle by today’s media standards. I wonder if they’ll ban M1 carbines this time ? During the last ban I married a lot of my 15 round M1C mags together by cutting off the top of one and taking the bottom off of another and brazing them together making a 32 round mag … good luck with the ban …

As far as Military “style weapons” the military has used every style of weapon made , so that would mean ALL GUNS back to and including the flintlock !!

Kiss my hairy rusty brown arse DC !!!
