You may remember that after the New England Patriots lost to the New York Giants in last year’s Super Bowl, quarterback Tom Brady’s wife — supermodel Gisele Bundchen — ripped his teammates for dropping so many passes. Well, now another Patriots player’s wife is making headlines after letting loose on Ravens linebacker Ray Lewis following his team’s win over the Patriots on Sunday.
Anna Burns Welker, whose past life includes a Miss Hooters title, was angry over her husband Wes Welker’s loss. She was also perturbed that Ray Lewis — the team’s star linebacker — has been getting so much attention and praise. Lewis announced a few weeks back that he would retire after this season, and that kicked off a storybook run to the Super Bowl. But Lewis also has a bit of a checkered past, having been charged with murder back in 2000, only to cut a deal and get those charges dropped.
“Proud of my husband and the Pats,” Anna wrote in a message obtained by The Big Lead. But what started out as sweet, quickly turned sour. “By the way, if anyone is bored, please go to Ray Lewis’ Wikipedia page. 6 kids 4 wives. Acquitted for murder. Paid a family off. Yay! What a hall of fame player! A true role model!“
The Daily Mail explains exactly what Anna is referring to in her disparaging comments:
Lewis and a group of friends were at the Cobalt Lounge in Atlanta for an after party on January 31 when a heated argument breaks out between Lewis’ group and another set of clubgoers.
One witness later said they saw Lewis throw a punch during the scuffle but no one claimed Lewis held a knife.

After Jacinth Baker, 21, and Richard Lollar, 24, were mortally wounded, Lewis and an entourage of 10 piled into a Lincoln Navigator
The two victims died nearly instantly after being knifed to the heart.
Lewis was soon taken into police custody where he admittedly supplied police with false information.
He was then arrested and held without bail. Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting were also arrested.
The trial began less than four months after the homicide.
Two weeks into the proceedings, Lewis agreed to testify against others in exchange for the murder charges being dropped.
He pleaded guilty to obstruction of justice and received a year of probation.
Even after testifying against Oakley and Sweeting, they were acquitted of murder and assault charges after a jury deliberated for five hours.
Lewis was fined $250,000 by the NFL and later reached a financial settlement with the victims’ families. A confidentiality clause kept the amount secret.
But reaction to Anna’s comments were swift, and she scrambled to do damage control by releasing a statement to Larry Brown Sports apologizing for the comments:
“I’m deeply sorry for my recent post on Facebook. I let the competitiveness of the game and the comments people were making about a team I dearly love get the best of me. My actions were emotional and irrational and I sincerely apologize to Ray Lewis and anyone affected by my comment after yesterday’s game.
“It is such an accomplishment for any team to make it to the NFL playoffs, and the momentary frustration I felt should not overshadow the accomplishments of both of these amazing teams.”
Lewis and the Ravens will take on the San Francisco 49ers in New Orleans on February 3.

Jan. 22, 2013 at 10:18amRay Lewis is very likely a murderer. No apology necessary, at least from this woman.
Lewis can grovel and try to apologize to God, when his time comes. I hope the answer is a bus ticket straight to hell.

Jan. 22, 2013 at 7:42pmI get a kick out the people here defending Lewis….apparently they didn’t read the wikipedia page about the murders. Ray lewis was wearing a white suit at the time and he ditched it because it was covered with the victims blood and it was never recovered. If they found the suit he would still be in jail today. he paid the lawyer fees for his two buddies he was “testifying against” and he paid off the family’s of the murder victims. Hmmm conspiracy theory ….Really?! Some people just idolize sports figures and are incapable of thinking rationally when it comes to them.

God, the Father of Jesus the Christ sees sin as sin. No degrees of sin, sin is sin. No sin is worse than another, sin is sin. Only humans decide that murder is worse than adultery, or covetting or bearing false witness or worshiping other gods. God sees all sin the same, an unholy abomination.
Mr. Lewis doesn’t need to grovel or apologize in front God, all he needs to do is accept His son Jesus as his Savior and Redeemer. Jesus paid the price for ALL of Ray’s sins (and mine and yours) where he (and we) couldn’t.

Jan. 23, 2013 at 12:05ami understand “heat of the moment” outbursts! been there-done that-guilty. but heres the thing. the problem with using a man (or woman) as A/THE role model wheather a good one ar a bad one is that that formula for measuring ones life is flawed. ultimately,(AND THIS ILLUSTRATION APPLYS TO EVERY MAN WOMAN BOY GIRL PAST PRESENT AND FUTURE…..all inclusive) we all stand guilty of the personal sin in our lives that demanded the son of god, Jesus, die in our place as payment for that sin. and, IF, from a thankful heart, we ask god for forgivness and we then turn from our sin god will forgive us. he offers this plan of salvation, the justifying of the guilty in the court of god, for a small child or a grown man, a seemingly innocent young person or the most guilty among us. im so glad that in and through and by his son jesus’ sacrafice he can offer all humanity grace that is greater than our sin. simply put, thats the power of the blood of jesus and i thank you lord for saving me.

Jan. 23, 2013 at 7:53amJOHN IN JACKSON…Have you never heard of mortal vs. venial sin??? Mortal sin is called mortal because it is the “spiritual” death of the soul (separation from God). Venial sins are slight sins. They do not break our friendship with God, although they injure it. Since when does “man” determine sin??? Yes, people can be forgiven mortal sin, but they must repent, which it appears Ray Lewis has done. But please, murder is no worse than lying???

Jan. 23, 2013 at 8:51amMorning Glory,
Nope, I have never been taught that. I have been taught that each and every sin is an unholy abomination to God. I can see how to us humans there are degrees of sin, that is why there are different punishments for different crimes, but for every sin there is only one punishment from God-eternal exclusion from the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus always spoke,”Go and sin no more.” He never specified the sin. But, let’s not argue minutia, the important thing is the true repentance and acceptance of Jesus.

Jan. 23, 2013 at 9:24amJohn, I’ll totally agree with your assessment on how God views sin. However, accepting Christ as your “savior and redeemer” is missing accepting Him as your Lord. A byproduct of which you will repent and thus are reduced to “groveling and begging for forgiveness”. Without that submission to Christ as Lord, you have a false conversion. Scripture bears this out pretty well.

Sin is that what is judged by god to be evil and against his glorification. Christians understand this and yes we have to humble ourselves and seek redemption. There will only be truth when judgement comes. Can you handle what deeds you’ve done? Why chance it? John 3:16.

Jan. 22, 2013 at 11:37amSounds like Welker was just calling out Ray Lewis on some crimes he got away with and demanding that people not look to him as a role model because of them. Ya can’t just stab two people to death and call it “good” which appears to be the case. Murder has consequences or it should have. I hear people say, “Jesus will forgive me” but will the law of the land let you off scott free? If you murder honey you still going to jail. Jesus or not. You do the crime you do the time. This we call “justice” and it appears that two people outside a club didn’t get it. Good for Welker. Except she back peddled. Stick to your guns next time lady and don’t let them bully you!

Jan. 22, 2013 at 12:12pmI assume none of us were there in Atlanta at the time of the murders. As far as I can tell, not one person ever saw Ray Lewis with a knife actually doing the crime. His mistake was trying to protect the people he was with at the time. Was that wrong? Sure it was. But unless you know for a fact that Lewis actually did the stabbing, you really shouldn’t be here judging the man. We have plenty of repeat offenders in the NFL who seem to keep committing one crime after another, but Lewis did turn his life around. At the end of the day, God will judge him, not us.

Lewis credibility is still in doubt with regards to the incident in 2000, but hey… its football! The media will slobber all over themselves by asking Lewis about his chances of getting a SB ring in his last year. What a storybook ending! Maybe someone will make a movie about Ray’s wonderful life.
I won’t be watching, but for many it’ll be great… watching all the pre-pre-pre-pre game shows and in-depth analysis. Its very interesting, you know, and extremely crucial to our nation’s future. Yes, someone had a knife, now didn’t they? Lewis of course knows who.
I was on a retrial of 3 defendents who spent 8 years in prison for the murder of a gas station attendant.
When the judge explained the law, he said if the 3 perps were in the station, and one murdered the attendant, then they would all be guilty, either as the killer or accessories to murder.
Lewis got off, in my opinion, because of him being a Pro-FB player, AND because he was black. He should NOT have been re-instated as a player. Look at M Vick. Look at Penn State and all the other colleges that have had violent players and recruiting violations. Even HS FB allows kids with police records to play. It’s FOOTBALL, after all! Lighten up, people!

Jan. 22, 2013 at 3:07pmI recall the controversy over Lewis in the late 1990′s. All of the mistakes he made happened when he was between age 16-21. He’s now 37 years of age and turned his life over to God and repented of his sins years ago. He gives God all the glory for his success so in an essence he’s a role model but not what we typically think in the “media” as one. He’s a role model for those who believe there is no hope once you’ve done wrong. We’ll never know the countless lives he inspired with his turn around story that could have gone down that same path but without hope ultimately leading to life in prison or death. It’s just another chance to marvel at the works of Jesus.
Contrast Ray Lewis with Lance Armstrong. Lance is an atheist who laughed at the existence of God and put down people of faith over and over in interviews. It’s about “me” and “what I’ve done” (pride) over and over in interviews. Well, as it was said, “pride comes before the fall.” Scratch the surface of any sin and you find pride just underneath. God has stripped away everything from Lance to humble him but what he does from this point on is up to him.

In the last game the ref’s missed 3 fouls, one a personal, I herd the helmets crack on my TV. They also got 2 first downs that should have been called short, due to the runner going out of bounds 1 or 2 yards short, neither were called. And NO I’m not a Niner’s fan, though I will pick them to win the Bowl. Have your lib friends and family get a load of this, most importantly, have you children read this and make this a teachable moment…
Another interesting thing is the comment section, you start to see a country of people yearning for liberty.

Jan. 22, 2013 at 9:39amMrs. Welker did the right thing – exposed a wrong which should have been fixed correctly YEARS ago. Too bad she didn’t have the moral temerity to stick to her guns.
Another surrender monkey from the world of political correctness…

Jan. 22, 2013 at 9:28amshe did not say anything factually wrong, an I’ve had the same thoughts during this playoff run for the Ravens where all these sportscasters are grabbing Lewis by the hand taking him to the oval office and pulling a lewinsky
dude murdered someone, and best case…. if he didn’t murder someone he was in a fight where his friends murdered someone, then paid off people to go away….. its shady

Jan. 22, 2013 at 10:07amIn some states if you’re with someone who murders somebody you’re just as guilty,Lewis just had the money to keep himself out of prison,he snitched on his ‘friends’ to avoid prison so he’s a punk as well.

Please buy a few thesaurus to put on that table the writers have to use because Mr. Beck is too cheap to buy desks. (which are cheap from office liquidations).

Jan. 22, 2013 at 9:35amFellows, leave my Mary alone. She’s had a tough night, catching up to some ironing she was supposed to be doing YESTERDAY, instead of posting on The Blaze, and in a few minutes she’s getting me a hot toasted bagel and some tea, prior to breakfast. I don’t need you guys upsetting her right now.

Jan. 22, 2013 at 12:10pm194 times is more than once a day.
I’ve never spoken that word and today was the first time I wrote it.
Bad habits can change, as happened after Gabby Giffords got shot Mr. Beck stopped saying reading “this” or looking at “that” would “make your head explode”. Although he has used the phrase a few times since, he no longer says it 3 or 4 times an hour.
Using the same obscure phrase over and over is just being lazy.

They will blame it all on everything but him. They overlook everything this has done and when he gets sued for not paying his bill’s it will be all over and he will wright a book to tell all. Don’t go for it fokes.
