‘I’d Try to Spank Them’: WWII Vet’s Endearing, Brutally Honest Interview After Alleged Teen Vandals Graffiti Inside His House

93 Year Old World War II Vet Elbert Wood Says Hed Spank Teen Offenders Who Vandalized His Home

A 93-year-old great grandfather and former Marine who earned a Purple Heart for his service in World War II is outraged and disgusted after vandals broke into his home Monday and sprayed graffiti on everything.

The Houston-area house he built 55 years ago and shared with his wife until her recent death now has graffiti on the walls, furniture, windows, and even artwork.

“I never heard of anything like this before,” Elbert Wood said, looking at his life’s possessions.

KHOU continues:

If he’d been home when the crooks broke in, Wood said, “I’d have tried to kill ‘em.”

Two of the suspects were caught just down the street with red paint on their hands, spray can caps in their pockets and stuff stolen from Wood’s home. One teen admitted to breaking into the house, but claims he didn’t vandalize it.

“What can I say? I didn’t spray paint his house,” he said.

Turns out the suspects in custody are just 13 and 16 years old. We can’t release their names because they are juveniles.

One of them started crying when Wood’s son and daughter-in-law showed up at the scene.

Wood’s daughter-in-law, Diane Wood, said, “They just wanted to apologize. They were very upset.”

But in all honesty, Wood clarified, he’d rather just see some old-school discipline.

Asked what he would do if he could lay his hands on the vandals, Wood said: “I’d try to spank them as hard as I could.”

Wood still has shrapnel in his leg from the war, the Associated Press adds, and though he was shot and hospitalized for a year after his first tour overseas, he still went back for a second tour.

The war hero still managed to look on the bride side of things. “They redecorated for me,” he joked.

According to KHOU, there has been an outpouring of support in the community, with neighbors and strangers alike offering to help clean up.

I would SUE THE PARENTS for the cleanup and dammage to my property! Then I would put-forth charges against the kids and parents for [breaking and entering] my PRIVATE RESIDIENCE!! Those feral-brats are their PARENTS’ responceabillity!!

Those poor children. They have no reality to what they have done. I feel so sorry for the boys in custody, because ‘boys will be boys’. Please let them go. They were crying and obviously under so much stress by the right wing police department. That old man is just that – way too old to be living, so it’s HIS fault that those boys did what they did. After all, it was HE who had medals and such on his walls just saying “in your face” to those poor unfortunate children. Please do NOT help this man. He was (is) an evil right wing Marine, who’s job was to kill poor children like these. He should not even be on medical devices, but rather given some pain meds to make him more comfortable – and be let go to nature.

See how STUPID the “Left Liberal Michael Moore Loving Parents” sound? And this is exactly why those little bastrrds destroyed that mans home. BECAUSE the lack of – and / or liberal coddling with the use of ‘electronic babysitters’ (i.e. video games – DVD – I Phones).

I SAY: Knock that being an ‘adult’ at 18 years old out of the law books, and DO NOT prosecute an ‘adult’ if he/she hits a ‘child’. These little bastrrds KNOW they CANNOT be touched by an ‘adult’, so they flaunt arrogence and filth so they can sue you when you slap their mouth. I SAY when a 14 year old comes up and ‘taunts’ me – I WILL put him against a wall by his neck! Want to ‘act’ like a ‘grown up’, then you better be ready to ‘take it’ like a ‘grown up’!

In 1959 when I was in the 6th grade, I was part of a group of boys, led by a 9th grader, who broke into a house. The 9th grader told us that he worked at the house as a gardner. He told us that the owners gave him permission to enter at any time. While we got a drink of water and ate some candy bars, he stole money.

I told my parents. My dad took me over to the house and had me explain what happened. The owner could obviously tell I was duped. Since there was theft involved, I had to be interviewed by the police. None of this was any fun.

My dad made me appologise to the owner, mow the person’s yard for the entire summer and rake leaves in the fall.

I hope these kids have to make right what they did. I also hope that some young Marines pay these kids a visit and give them some boot camp talking to.

  Dude, you must have lived on the East or Southeast side. Smell is never great. What that area has is JOBS. Smells like crap, but the $ is good, Good & GOOD! Oil is still what runs this economy, not Ipones, Droids or Bieber. If that industry wans’t here H-Town would be NADA, not selling a car. The people who live around it do it because of the benefits that it gives them. I’d love to live in the promise land that you moved too, can’t right a this second, but will. The problem is will I move out to the promise land and still work there, I can afford it.
  
  As far theses asshats, a month in BIG county with all the child rapists. Then back to this MAN’S house to repair and make it better. When this soldier dies, they must put flowers at his grave and his decesed wife unit they either join or have kids of there own (until they are at least the age that he had his first). While working they should listen to his story, over and over again.
  
  I used to live it that neghiborhood, went to Scarborough, where they are going or dropped out. In ’94, it was decent. Football teamed sucked, like always. School was ok to sub par. Today it and the neighborhood is now little Mexico, not the restarunt,. Like most of Houston is becoming.

The baby boomers have now had babies of their own. An army of yuppies has been loosed on the unwary populace. Beware! These zombiekids are high on psychotropics and antipsychotics, seratonin re-uptake inhibitors, and only have the TV and internet for moral lessons.

I am only 30 years old. In my time, I have seen a dramatic change in society. Unless you’ve had your head in the sand, you have too. It’s a stark change. This country will be in flames in 20 years. Mark my words.

Today’s young people have zero respect for elders.
America has become such a cesspool of crime, hate, and violence.

If I had spray painted someone’s house and stolen his belongings, my parents would have made me apologize to his face. Then, I would have to repaint his whole house, clean up his furnishings, and pay for any items that could not be cleaned up.

Plus, they would have handed the old Gentleman a leather belt, so he could beat my butt with it. After all that, I would have been grounded for a year.

  When I was a kid, I had a paper route. One time I threw the newspaper and accidentally cracked someone’s window. I got scared and rode away. But it was pretty obvious that I had broken it, given that I delivered newspapers to the house and their was broken glass all over the newspaper.
  
  So I was caught and got in plenty of trouble by my parents, got a good tongue lashing from the homeowner, and fired from my paper route. I also got to pay for the window to be fixed – not my parents’ money but my own money.
  
  Throughout that entire ordeal I felt very bad about what I had done. It was an accident but I did ride away without confronting the homeowner first with what I had done.
  
  That children today willfully and with great contempt vandalize other peoples’ property is truely an amazing thing. Guilt and shame are utterly gone with too many people in this country – so many now that the country cannot remain civilized much longer on this path.

OK, as MisterSarcastic correctly noted, there are no former Marines. These little punks better hope no younger Marines find out who they are, unless there is a followup story about the new paint job and clean up they did. They should be mowing the lawn and many other such duties for a long long time, after they get a serious lesson in respect. The parents MUST step up and make things right or this will come back to bite them.

  no, treat them like the children they are. Make them clean that man’s house, then spend their summer vacation taking care of his yard. Then, MAYBE, they will be allowed to go on their way in the next school year. But being sorry is the cheap way out. If the child was that upset, let him prove his repentance. If not repentant, at least working off their debt to society saves us a little money. They aren’t hardened criminals yet. Treating them like adults might push them in that direction though.

They are rude, disrespectful, spoiled brats, so obnoxious one can’t stand to be around many of them. Would have loved to run into the little worthless brcks as them ran away!!!! I hope the parents do make the kids go and clean, paint,…whatever it is they have to do to restore this man. It was interesting that this Marine, while he said if he had caught them in the act, he would have “killed them”; but that was likely under the unknown of who was in the house. After thing began to clarify, he said a good spanking would do. That tells me that if this man was in the house when these kids broke in, he had the “fire discipline” to assess the situation before pulling the trigger..and he would have realized what was before him and would not fire. It sounds like the kids involved are admitting guilt, so hopefully this will be resolved.

One thing is for sure, I would love to meet this gentleman.

If the parents had any decency, they would make the kids go and clean up everything they did, and work to repay any damage. But who are we kidding, only decent people would do that, I expect after hearing his statements about wanting to spank them, they will file abuse threats against him and sue. Of course, we owe them, and that old man had it coming. Sarc. off.
