Pictures: The Inaugural Ball Gowns You Didn’t Know You Wanted to See

It might not be the Golden Globes, Grammies or Academy Awards, but the inauguration balls that took place in Washington, D.C., Monday evening are still worth noting from a fashion standpoint — even if it’s really only first lady Michelle Obama’s gown that anyone truly cares about.

Obama went with designer Jason WuΒ again for President Barack Obama’s ball celebrating his inauguration into a second term. Instead of a demure white though, she went for a shimmery ruby color the second time around. In fact, red seemed to be the color of the night by other attendees as well.

Before getting to the pictures, it’s worth mentioning the observations made by NPR’s Linda Holmes that the gowns making an appearance at the inaugural balls are a bit odd given the lack of glamour of the setting (the one attended by Holmes was at the Washington Convention Center, which she describes as an “enormous concrete cavern”):

Why? Seriously … why? What is it about this particular formal event that people decide they’re still willing to turn out for?

It seems as you watch the women lined up at the mirror in the bathroom, tugging up tops of dresses and pulling down bottoms of dresses, adjusting lipstick and hair, moving parts of themselves to where they’re supposed to be, and scattering when the lady comes through to bellow the reminder that you need to keep everything clean and move on, that they’re here because they want this experience. They want this particular experience β€” the ball experience, the formal experience, the inauguration experience β€” enough to simplyΒ decideΒ to have it. The floor is unimportant, the fact that they can’t see the band is unimportant, the overpriced drinks are unimportant, and the acres of exposed concrete are unimportant,Β even thoughΒ these might be the same things they wouldn’t like about some other party on some other day.

We’ve pulled together some photos of the gowns worn by VIPs and other attendees:

Let us know what you think of Michelle Obama’s dress compared to her first inaugural ball gown by taking our poll.

In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Find out more HERE.

I actually though Mrs. Obama looked sharp this time around. Not just the gown, but the pinstriped suit as well. Maybe it was the new haircut, but she looked like she has lost some weight too.

Now back to my regular Obama bashing…

Omarosa Manigault? Wasn’t she FIRED from Donald Trump about a gazillion years ago? That was the funniest thing ever! I do love the faux fur collar. Alicia Keys dress is quite modest. She has class. The lady in white like a tulip looks nice. I am not a fan of the other dresses too much. Let the BET people have their night of ball gowns and fun. They get to go on up in these very important buildings in Washington DC and feel important for a night. This is all about being or trying to be a celebrity. They get one night to feel important. Then it is back to the grind of the real world. This is all they have so let them have their one night of fun. It won’t last long as nothing does. 5 minutes of fame. Enjoy it while you can cause Judgement Cometh. Soon.

Can anyone imagine how much trouble there would be if there was a “WET – White Entertainment Television” – channel? But, then again, we might need to ask why there is ” BET -Black Entertainment Channel” – and it’s ok, but it’s not ok to have WET channel….Do they REALLY want a REAL discussion of race relations in America? It sure doesn’t look like it from here.

    From Wikipedia:
Amidst a fiscal crisis, the common people of France were increasingly angered by the incompetency of King Louis XVI and the continued indifference and decadence of the aristocracy. This resentment, coupled with burgeoning Enlightenment ideals, fueled radical sentiments, and the French Revolution began in 1789.
    See any similarities?

I see the similarities but in America the aristocracy (the government/liberals/communists) have over half of America being fed, clothed and furnished housing. That just leaves the others, us, who provide these perks to get riled up and we are being marginalized more and more every day.

I didn’t watch this sham of an innauguration. I could not stand looking at the mob that has taken over the white house. Looking at the pictures it seems that white people were not invited ()except for the Bidens. I see BET was there. WHere was the all-white-network? Oh yeah..this is America….whites are legally discriminated against here.
