Singer James Taylor on Gun Control: ‘We Need to Make Some Sacrifice[s] to Our Freedoms…to Safeguard Our Children’

Singer James Taylor Says Americans May Need to Sacrifice Gun Freedom to Protect Children | Obama

Singer James Taylor showered accolades upon President Barack Obama on Monday, calling the president the ultimate public servant and proclaiming that Americans “are very fortunate to have Barack Obama as our leader.”

While these comments are expected from a celebrity who unabashedly supported the president throughout his first and second campaigns, Taylor’s proclamations about gun control may trouble some Second Amendment enthusiasts.

During an interview with The Daily Caller yesterday, the singer said that Americans may need to sacrifice some of their liberties in order to protect society from gun violence. When asked to comment about whether he agrees with Obama’s recent executive orders targeting firearms and aimed at stemming violent crime, Taylor made an intriguing proclamation about sacrificing freedom. Before sharing his views, though, he did note that he does not know, in great detail, the contents of the president’s most recent executive orders.

“I think the nation is very divided on gun control, but I think the majority of us feel strongly — even the majority of gun owners feel strongly — that we need to make some sacrifice[s] to our freedoms, if that’s the way to put it,” he said. “We need to make some sacrifices to what we might want to have, in order to safeguard our children.”

As for the Founding Fathers, Taylor believes that, while they wanted Americans to have the right to arm themselves, there are limits to the Second Amendment’s reach.

“I think there’s a limit to how much — I think the founding fathers wanted us to be able to arm ourselves, but I don’t think that they would have agreed that we should have the capacity to do the damage that we do have,” the singer continued. “And we just can’t afford it.”

I guess me need to sacrifice some free speech and freedom of the press(internet) along with violent video games and movies and music.Its only our freedoms and after all it’s for the children, who could argue against our children…what a moron

Is this not the most loathsome president with the most loathsome worshipers? We fought a war many years ago for independence, which side do you think these losers would fall on? The side of the oppressed people wanting freedom or the side of the monarchy? We also fought another war against these types back in the 1940′s, they also had a leader who was showered with praise and accolades similar to this one with identical agendas of totalitarianism using their race to suit their needs. There is nothing good about this man-child or his supporters!

James Taylor was admitted to a physc ward in his younger days battling severe mental illness.
Should we really take advice about gun ownership from someone who can’t legally own one?

Is James Taylor serious! ? What, you throw your lunch box at a man who enters the school to kill everyone!? Getting rid of the legal, licensed people only leaves the people who want to kill and massacre people and police to have guns. The police can not get to the scene in time to save people….they come running in after the murders have been accomplished. They found Holmes in the parking lot after the horrible massacre had been finished in the theatre–in Col.. Unless they are there with guns on the premise, no one is going to protect us. That leaves the killer alone to do the act of killing and the police then become the “clean up team”. I don’t want a clean up team—I want protection!!!! Get real folks! Schools, Malls, Theatres and other places of social gathering…need armed guards…..period.

  I think you get to throw your old worn out guitar at the dude who is coming into your school loaded down with bags of guns and ammo. Or you get to throw your old brown shoes. Or throw Mexico at him. Or the Walking Man. Or Sweet Baby James. Maybe Fire and Rain? You get to throw Fire and Rain at him? Maybe band instruments like tubas, coronets, saxophones? Maybe the piano? yeah! Just pick up the piano and throw it at the dude with bags of guns and ammo up in your school! I am sure that will stop him. My MONEY is on the athletic department. Baseball bats and balls. A well thrown baseball is akin to a rock or stone. Very effective and who doesn’t have a baseball bat by their bedstand anyway? Train the athletic department and please tell the musicians they will be needed elsewhere. Musicians are often very soft and sentimental people. They should have nothing to do with weaponry. James needs to shut up and go back to the home. One never has to give up the freedoms of the constitution for anyone. It makes no sense. It is like comparing apples to shards of glass. It is like saying….”to save the children we must throw ourselves over a cliff.”. Do not let the liberals use the old “for the children” line. Did the pioneers give up their guns to the Indians ‘for the children’? Liberals and their policies have done more to destroy children than a million guns laying in desk drawers all over the country. “for the children”…is a LIE…while they stab scissors in the necks of healthy newborns who are an inconvenience, or leave them in a room to die…or toss their lifeless bodies into a 5 gallon pail…or all the important work planned parenthood does for a woman’s reproductive health like aborting fetuses if they’re not the wanted sex…

how’s that sound, Mr. Song? don’t like that idea? Don’t believe it could happen? Why not, you are glad handing and helping to attempt the same thing regarding firearms, the CITIZEN’s POSSESSION of which is what truly gained the freedom to do what you do today.
