‘Gangnam Style’ Video Earns $8 Million in Ad Revenue on YouTube

Psys Gangnam Style Makes $8 Million on YouTube from Ads

It had been estimated before that the world famous South Korean rapper Psy — well-known for his viral sensation “Gangnam Style” — had earned millions on YouTube in advertising revenue. But Google’s fourth quarter earnings call this week confirmed how much the song generated.

The YouTube video for “Gangnam Style,” which has more than 1.2 billion hits and became the most viewed on the video sharing site last year, earned $8 million, based on third party estimates, Google’s Nikesh Arora said on the call.

Now, as QZ.com pointed out Psy doesn’t get all this money. YouTube keeps about half, meaning Psy would have earned around $4 million. Still, $8 million in total means that the song generated about $0.65 per play, QZ.com noted.

It’s unreal that kind of money is wasted. I NEVER click on the Youtube ads ever. Mostly for THAT reason. I’m not earning these people money for nothing and making Google richer than they already are. THE ONLY time I click on them is for friendly websites and people I don’t mind seeing the money go to, but not to that %T^&*()……

I read many of the posts here and most of those I read had the same basic theme: this guy is trash because he obviously hates Americans. To answer the on-going question, of course this guy hates American it is popular to do so. Today’s “society” is a flash flood of ready to order sound bites and 4 minute youtube videos that “entertain” the uneducated American populous who subscribe to this BECAUSE they are uneducated. My brother drove from Pittsburg to my home at Quantico to say hello. The entire time he was there all he wanted me to do was watch this silly video. I ablidged for about 20 seconds and walked out of the room stating this wa not worth what little time I have on this planet. I am 33 and as such I have already burned up 33 years mostly watching crap until 2007 when I said goodbye to TV and the uneducated crap like Simpsons, Family Guy and the like even though I enjoyed them when I watched them. American is rotting because Americans do not know how great and unique America really is. However, American (I fear) cannot regain its luster until we show those Obama types there is something else to life other than the Real World, crappy music, and most especially John Stewart.

  I believe you have hit the proverbial nail on the head. I am in my early 50′s and as a manager for several years, needing to hire college grads has been a joke. I’d take an 18 year old with real world work experience and work ethic over a BS in Business Management ANY DAY! They live in a world of instant gratification and short attention spans. Everyone forget this is the same guy who sang the anti-American song. When talking about Americans in the song he said – “Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law, and fathers. Kill them all slowly and painfully,” He also performed for 0bama at the white house under a personal invitation. Even with it being known by 0bama he still was invited him without regard to the protesting. 4 days later Sandy Hook happened and PSY got his wish about the daughters and mothers. Now 0bama stands on the graves on the kids to push his sick anti-Constitutional agenda while PSY gets rich from the Americans he wants killed.
