Killers Beware: Students in This School District Will Now Be Protected by 14 Recently Purchased AR-15s

The Fontana Unified School District Police Department is refusing to leave students unprotected and has purchased 14 AR-15 semi-automatic rifles in response to a number of recent shootings in the U.S., several occurring at schools.
Superintendent Cali Olsen-Binks approved the purchase of the rifles, which are reportedly being stored in a locked safe intended for responding police officers during a shooting or attack, according to CBS Los Angeles.
Fontana Police Chief Rodney Jones said it’s “unfortunate” that the school district had to resort to drastic measures, but added that “it’s the best message we can send to anybody that thinks to harm our children.”
“The message we’re sending is…not here, not now, we’re prepared for you. And if you seek to harm our children, we will neutralize that threat and you will most likely be killed,” he said.
Mayor Acquanetta Warren also supported the decision and said “our police officers need to be equipped.”
“Everyone wants children safe. At this time, we as a community, we have to come together and find other ways. But in the interim, our police officers need to be equipped,” she said.
But not everyone is on board with the decision. School board member Sophia Green says students will not be any safer with the extra guns on campus. In fact, she says it could encourage killers to come with “something even bigger or better.”
“If a person who has the intention of coming on campus to kill… knows we have the AR-15s…They will come prepared,” she said.
More from CBS Los Angeles:
Green said school officials, who held three public safety meetings about violence on campus, never even mentioned that they bought the weapons.
“They did have meetings, but at no point (did anyone say), ‘Semi-automatic guns will be bought,’ ‘We have semi-automatic guns,’ or ‘Semi-automatic guns are being stored on school property,’” she said.
Anna Conklin, a child development specialist, also opposed storing the guns on school grounds. She told KCAL9′s Dave Bryan that a counseling program would be a better way to address violence on campus.
“Children aren’t born with a gun in their hand and vengeance in their mind. They aren’t necessarily going to grow into being a killer. We, as a society, need to address why children are growing up to commit these acts as teens and adults. I don’t see how adding more weapons on a campus is addressing that,” Conklin said.
Jones, the police chief, explained that other school districts are also turning to semi-automatic rifles to protect the children in their schools.
“As far as the percentage of school police departments that have them…we’re seeing a growing trend,” he said. “Unfortunately, we’re seeing a growing trend where they have to do this. It’s a sad thing for society that we have to have this type of fire power in our schools, but we can’t ignore that this is the society that we live in.”

I believe her when she says that. I have no problem believing that she does not understand. In fact if she claimed that she has no understanding of the most basic psychological principles, I’d take her word on that also.
Who are these morons who keep insisting that disarming for criminally insane is some kind of defense?
These people probably also think that leaving their keys in their car protects against car theft, and leaving their front door unlocked protects against burglary.
A gun free zone is like a neon sign that tells criminals: “Come here! The population has been disarmed for your safety and convenience.”

“it’s the bet message we can send to anybody that thinks to harm our children.”
After you write an article, and then you read over it to see if your FACTS are correct, wouldn’t you notice your errors in the story? Wouldn’t you then fix them – before you publish the article?
I can only assume that you ARE NOT proof reading the stories to see if they are FACTUALLY correct.
How can I believe that these Blaze stories are true? Sadly, because of the rampant sloppiness with these stories, I have less and less faith in your credibility.
Sometimes when I read an article on The Blaze, I look to see who wrote it. If it’s someone who has posted stories with lots of errors in the past I stop reading and close the story, and move on to another one. It’s not worth my time to be potentially misinformed.
I must know what you are publishing is true. If you can’t look over an article to make sure it’s correct before publishing it then I CANNOT TRUST YOU!
Please, help us to have faith in you and to trust you! It’s your choice.

Posted on January 23, 2013 at 8:00pmI have a solution to all this BS. It’ll solve a lot of other issues as well.
Combine the schools and the police stations/precincts in the same buildings.

Posted on January 23, 2013 at 7:53pmWe’ve been programmed to believe that liberalism would lead us to the utopia everyone wants. But we must live in the real world which says society must be guarded with guns. This is a sure sign that liberalism and all its glory has brought us to this day where we have mass killings by teens and young people against other children. These are not Vets perpetrating these events! These are everyday children and 20 somethins. In fact a room full of vets recently sat patiently through a propaganda extravaganza by a bunch of liberals demonization the NRA and anyone with the gall to own a gun.

An valiant attempt to explain sociopathic individuals using conventional reasoning. Sorry, Sophia. Here in America, we try not throw down our swords and beg for mercy.
And for the ‘we’re not born holding guns’ quip, she’s coming from a very naive and misguided worldview. Assuming that every person is born inherently good, and only society can fail to keep them that way is a massive lie. Human beings are inherently selfish, prideful, and lustful. And that’s precisely why we are entitled to defend ourselves, our children, and our country from any source of evil using whatever means we find necessary.
God Bless.

There`s nothing unfortunate about it. Everyone, everywhere, should have had firearms for protection at all times and everywhere they went.

Posted on January 23, 2013 at 6:58pmThis is on par with how the lefties want citizens to store our guns. SO by the time you get it out and ready you are dead. It is useless and not going to work, just modify it and have the rifles out and on the backs or in the hands of guards/cops.

This district is buying 14 ARs to lock up for the police to use AFTER they arrive?
And just think, this is the BEST idea these morons came up with! What an amazing display of idiocy.
I wonder what idea came in second…maybe the idea of letting students take 4 days of their choosing off every week so they decrease their odds of being in an attack by 80 percent?
LOL

Posted on January 23, 2013 at 5:51pmSophia Green, quoted late in the story, offers an argument that active shooters would ‘come prepared.’
she is partially true… even the ‘crazy’ theater shooter was smart enough to choose a ‘gun free zone’ theater. so the most likely ‘preparation’ would be to choose a softer target. otherwise, unless you envision the military only personal armor that is in use in Afghanistan, the .223 AR’s would take out any active shooter… even if you suppose sufficient body armor to prevent lethality, the impact and ready availability of more rounds (preferrably more than 10) would quickly interrupt an active shooter situation.
in short, her argument is a non-starter. if we cannot take an action out of fear that the bad guys will adapt, we are doomed before we begin.

Posted on January 23, 2013 at 5:46pmGreen’s fallacy is that the argument only proves that the protection is not perfect, but ignores that it makes an attack on the school LESS LIKELY. By her logic we shouldn’t try to protect anything ever because someone could always work even harder to overpower that.
Yes that is possible, but if it takes more work, less killers will feel up to the task, so you’re safer overall.
And more importantly, even if someone does come in with an even bigger weapon, you have a better chance of taking them out and saving lives. Such a weapon would only be an aid to what more arriving police would bring with them anyways — delay the killer with cover fire while they can arrive, for example.
