Never Gets Old: U.S. Marine Welcomed Home by His Ridiculously Excited Dog After a Year Overseas

A video posted on YouTube by the Welcome Home Blog earlier this week captures the heartwarming moment of one U.S. Marine’s homecoming. He was not only greeted by his family, but also his very excited dog, Callie. The dog spins in circles, wags her tail and basically goes bonkers at seeing Beau, the U.S. Marine.

“I love you Callie bear,” the Marine says in the video.

“My son, Beau, has been away for over a year and he has not been home since Christmas 2011. Our dog, Callie, has been growing suspicious since I’ve been cleaning out his room for the past month preparing for his homecoming,” the video’s description reads. “Today was the day he came home, and this was her reaction to seeing him for the first time in over a year. She was so excited she didn’t know what to do!”

Watch the touching video below. It’s OK if you cry.

WELCOME HOME, BEAU! Thank you for your service. And how wonderful to have such a faithful dog as Callie. I have enormous respect for military service members and I am partial to Marines. (I have two sons serving in the Corps.) Oorah! Semper Fi!

A great book about dogs is Merle’s Door, Lessons from a Freethinking Dog, by Ted Kerasote. I had to skip over the endless explanations of dog history but the story is just amazing and true. I love dogs. Wouldn’t be without one or two.

      YASSUH!

I can’t stand the implementation of an all-’volunteer’ military. It bleeds our nation of Patriots, while their scombeg detractors enjoy the freedom they fight for, to disparage them here at home. They somewhat are neutral about the military now (they might need them at home is their thinking) but if a Repub is elected in 2016, out from under the cupboards like roaches will they swarm…

I say make military service mandatory, or bring back the draft, and make those scombegs fight for their own freedom..,

the responsiblity for and unconditional love from a pet can help vets and others with psych stresses to heal…

the armies of the bible did not march back home straight from battle… they bivouacked (spelling?) outside the city, tore their clothes, screeched, bathed in blood… sorted out the horrors they had faced.

Grossman talks about the link between PTSD and the knowledge, even if you didn’t, that you might be expected to take a human life… it’s the only difference from the villager victims that go through the same process but DON’T have PTSD afterwards… and it’s something our military and politicians do precious little to address… once a troop musters out, his mental health is his own to deal with, and in a land that while far better than during ‘Nam, is still sufficiently divided he may bump up against a ‘child killer’ labeling loon.

So I wish this marine quick healing and a happy home with his pet and the rest of his family… we’ve once again sent too many of the best of a generation into a meatgrinder that will leave them forever changed, without recognizing the repurcussions…

it’s been argued the softening in America after WWII was partly because the ratio of fit, dedicated, moral men compared to the hangers on dropped off, leaving more ‘lesser men’ to father babies, and raise them without the character that defined the greatest generation…

Yes, my dogs do that also; but it does not make the video less meaningful.

I’ve heard it said that, in order to keep your self worth in perspective, everyone should have a dog to adore you and a cat to ignore you. Cute huh?

It is a long time but not nearly as long as many WW II vets experienced. Many of them were away for years on end, without being able to come home for furlough.

Our prayers are with our military men and women who are “standing on the wall of freedom”. Their families are also in our prayers because they too pay a price.

I never get tired of these videos. Welcome home Marine. What a great welcome from your Callie.

Last Wednesday night my almost 19 y/o cat died peacefully while lying in my lap. Five days later I had to put my 10 y/o dog down. I cried like a baby.

Love your pet friends while you’ve got them folks. They sure do love us.

MOM, I’m so sorry about your pets. I cried. The first pet I had die (a baby colt) abandoned by her mom and I tried to help her back to health with feeding every 2 hours night and day for a week and she just couldn’t make it………I cried a full week it hurt so bad. Until then, I never knew what real hurt was.

Love it… I love animals… This is how my Bobcat mix acts everytime I come home… If I’m gone for more than a few hours, my roommate tells me she gets sad and cries, and when I get back home, she freaks out and won’t leave me alone for at least 30 min. to an Hour…
