Overcoming Unthinkable Tragedy: People Directly Impacted by Sandy Hook Share Their Stories

Ever-present in the minds of Americans across the country, is the feeling of despair that was brought to bear by the Sandy Hook Elementary school shooting. With agenda-pushers seeking to politicize the tragedy, conspiracy theorists denigrating the memory of those fallen, and celebrities using the incident as a promotional soapbox for one cause or another, many are left to wonder what the families of the victims involved must be thinking of it all.

Some of those people decided to share aspects of their experience with Glenn Beck on Thursday evening. Pete Bareesi, father of a Newtown student and teacher’s aid Shari Burton along with her family, joined the program to discuss what they endured both during and after the massacre that claimed 20 children and six adults.

Burton explained how she resolved to cope with the situation and protect herself and her students. She commended the school janitor who became an unsung hero in the horrific incident.

“Our school did a tremendous job, but unfortunately, in the world we live in as an educational assistant, you go to work in fear now,” she said.

Burton’s daughter also recalled the events as they unfolded that morning when she received the disturbing text messages from her mother, informing her that there had been a shooting.

Burton also helped start the Sandy Hook Angel Project, which gives out green and white ribbons as a gesture of healing and remembrance. The donations received for the ribbons are being given to the Sandy Hook PTA fund.

Hey Glenn,

Do you know about the Gulf of Tonkin??? Maybe you should study History! For those of you that believe that the US Government would never LIE or create a False Flag scenario, then research the Gulf of Tonkin Lie! It was a lie that the US government kept under wraps for 30 years!!!
Nothing big, it just dragged our young men and women into this little ‘ol conflict called the VIETNAM WAR!! They held this itty bitty lie for 30 years, and finally admitted that they lied about it because they had to come up with a reason why they had to send our military into a very unpopular conflict! Those men and women saw some pretty nasty stuff in I’d say one of the DIRTIEST wars that we’ve been involved in! They saw kids killed by napon! Men killed by vietanmese prostitutes while having intercourse they would stick stuff up their ying-yang in order to slice their weiner’s! Then there were the thousands of nasty booby-traps that those (I won’t say it) created to torture, mane, and kill our young service members!! That’s not even getting into the POW camps, which is just as SICK.

If the US government created that LIE, in order to change public opinion, then I hold NOTHING past the Obama administration! If they have some involvement, then that changes everything, If there was a 2nd shooter, that changes everything. Questions must be asked GLENN.

So how/when did they get on the LOUD SPEAKER??

A teacher and student stated that the Principal got on the Loud Speaker, which is usually with the Secretary! NO MENTION! I want to know was it really the Principal on the Loud Speaker or the Secretary?? If it was the Princiapal that everyone stated it was, then how did she get shot in the hallway and make it back to the PA System?? We just want FACTS, and I especially want to know WHY they School Nurse hid for 4 hours instead of helping the children, and I want to know why they didn’t make any attempt to save some kids?? Those are the most pressing questions!

Again, this is just more reason to question everything that we’ve been told about Sandy Hook.

Well, when Glenn (pansy style) asked if it was about guns… no one really stood up and supported guns! Made me a little more suspicous, and their faces when that was brought up, did anyone catch that one too? I too, really didn’t hear any “conclusive” evidence from them. I like the comment above about why is the “daughter” on the show and not the “secretary”?

  I stopped watching beck right after the blaze started and I saw him changing as though he had received orders. Now I don’t believe nor watch one word of what beck says. I read the comments of what others say about him here and that confirms my suspicions of what beck has become.
  When I saw this story I knew it would be a dog and pony show, so I scrolled to the comments without watching beck selling his soul for tptb. Sure enough!
  It’s truly sad that beck was either frightened or bribed to change horses but there it is..

  There is a simple reason we did not reply to Glenn’s gun question, given our status and postion in the community as well as our friends who have lost children, we felt it inappropriate to discuss our own views.
  I wish I could answer more directly about the situation but given my position I don’t feel comfortable sharing, you will have to wait for the police report, I would suggest that if you in anyway have a week stomach that you skip any details of the scene inside the school, like me, you may never sleep right again.
  
  The helicopter did arrive on scene around 10:15 am as did one of our State Police single engine airplanes, the scene at that time was chaotic at best, the police acting with absolute due dilligence were busy searching for a possible second shooter given the amount of misinformation they had from witnesses. The whole event started around 9:37am and was over by 9:45am, that’s as much detail as I am willing to give, hopefully the state police report will be released in its entirety sooner then later, I still need closure on may things, one being, what time did he shoot his mother? How long did he sit there in his house before leaving for destruction? Do we or do we not have security footage of him pulling into the High School first? (There was a police car out front that belonged to our SRO, the schools are only 2 miles apart, they believe the police car out front caused him to leave the high school).

  I was a little confused, PBARR123, Are you one of the parents who lost a child? If you are, can I ask if the reports were true that you were not allowed to identify your child, but only by a photo? Was it demanded that you/or parents of children only have closed caskets? I was blown away by reading that! As a parent, there is no way I would not identify my own son!

  We “truthers” or “conspiracy therorists” just want some straight facts and witness observations. Why didn’t Glenn interview the Secretary?? Why not interview people that actually had to evaluate each dead child and determine if they were able to be saved?? How could any first responder just let the shot kid just lie on the floor?? Why didn’t they rush ALL of the kids to the hospital??? What weapon was used, because there hasn’t been one straight answer on that question as well as numerous others!?!?! WHY can’t you interview people that actually saw the shooter?? Why not the people that got shot, but lived??? These interviews didn’t tell us anything, and they sure didn’t prove that there was only 1 shooter. This didn’t debunk a thing.
  
  The Teacher’s Aide just saw the janitor, and NEVER asked a thing, before going back to her room and ask “What’s the Procedure”. WTFisThat?? What irritates me is Glenn’s Hypocrasy that in one breadth he tells us “Seek the Truth”, and then don’t question Sandy Hook.

  I am not a parent who lost a child, I am however a friend and a neighbor of 7 families who did. I am also a first responder, although not allowed inside the crime scene, I know exactly what it looked like, I won’t share how, and I won’t share the horror, the police report may do just that, be cautious reading it.
  The families were able to identify their fallen loved ones by photograph, the graphic nature of their injuries were more than even the toughest officer or coroner could possibly handle, so much so that the only way they felt comfortable for the families to identify their lost loved ones was via photo’s.
  The parents were not made to have closed casket funerals, most had them because it was impossible due to the nature of their injuries, I did however attend an open casket funeral for one of the children.

  I know, PBARR, AirportE, I have so many questions like this. I am really having a rough time concluding one way or the other on so many anomolies. I am not a “conspiracy nut”, but I do think we are owed some security pics or something detailing the account. If the official police report comes out and they don’t release some type of photos, it’s only going to continue to fuel people who think this was all a hoax. I hope they can report on enough info to relieve some of these nagging questions.

  I’m sorry, PBARR, but whenever “officials” decide for me that I am incapable of handling the ugly details of something that happened, especially if it’s in regard to my own child, I become EXTREMELY suspicious. I’m a grown man. I can make that decision for myself.

  Keep in mind, “officials” also decided for all of us that we were incapable of handling the ugly pictures of Osama’s assassination. Osama Bin Ladin…. the one supposedly responsible for murdering 3,000 innocent Americans. Is it any surprise there are tons of questions surrounding that “official story,” as well? We get brutal details and accompanying pictures of crimes all the time. The media thrives on it. I’ve seen footage of people blowing their brains out on live TV. Why aren’t we spared then? Is it because those are the times there is nothing to hide?

  I know you. I moved away from town more than a decade ago but your family was one of the first i met when i moved to Newtown more than 2 decades ago. The Kickoff post party for organizers was at your old man’s house that year.. Mike, Mike, Steve, & Bobby used to help out the coaches of my NSC club team, too.
  I really appreciate what you’re trying to do here & my thoughts & prayers go out to your family, your Cubs, your kid’s pals, your dog, and the whole town. I’ve been in touch with other 1st responders, local cops, & Staties. I know for a fact that some of the conspiracy theorists are nuts. Stay strong.

  Were your kids involved? If they were, you could make that demand, as i’m sure many victim’s parents have.. but you have no right to demand the release of the gory details related to other family’s kid’s demise until the investigation is done.

  First of all, I didn’t “demand” anything. Normally, no one even has to. As a father or two young children, I do know that I would not just take someone’s word for it that either of them was gone, without seeing and identifying the body. That is the normal legal process. Anyone can show me a picture of my child.

  you’re misunderstanding what happened… They were shown photos for ID of death purposes, prior to the autopsies. The bodies were then released to the families and their respective funeral directors. There are no missing bodies. Not one family questioned whether or not the dead kid they received was theirs or not, and some families did, indeed, have an open casket service…
  
  20 dead kids… It’s been less than two months. How long would it take YOU to investigate this carnage? Would YOU call a presser every day to release more info? I urge you to keep asking questions.. in fact i beg you to… but also respect the process and be patient.

  If designated armed faculty were in the school that day … could it be that one shot would have taken Adam Lanzo down prior to accomplishing his evil mission? Could it be if designated armed faculty were in the school on that fateful day … Adam Lanzo would not have considered his evil mission? Lanzo may have been evil but he was not stupid.
  
  Anyways … if one of my precious grandchildren had been a victim of Adam Lanzo … I would be advocating armed security for public schools. There should be no designated area as a “gun free zone”. Unarmed law abiding Sandy Hook faculty who are denied their contitution ride to carry are sitting ducks and so were the children in need of protection..

  I do respect the process, and thank you for being reasonable and respectable. I do try to do the same. It has never been my intention to act otherwise. This is a most disturbing story, and has been exploited for all the wrong reasons. That is why we are questioning it. Many of us have come to severely distrust authority and, I believe, for good reason.
  
  Many of us are also more than just a little bit disgruntled with Beck, who has encouraged us to question everything, but then insults and obviously distances himself from us if we’re not always on the same page with him. I’m aware that has nothing whatsoever to do with the real victims in this situation.

  BTW.. i don’t think Beck is saying “don’t question” Sandy Hook.
  I think he’s saying “question it all, but don’t disregard the official info released in favor of the wild assumptions made by people stacking rumors on top of rumors as if they were evidence”.

  Well, therein lies the problem. The official info directly contradicts other info and ignores glaring errors and inconsistencies, that even he has failed to satisfactorily address. It isn’t just rumors. I, for one, don’t get a kick out of pointing out that we’re not being told the whole truth. I want it. And when a situation is obviously being used to push a larger agenda, I am ever more suspicious and distrustful.
  
  Beck has outright called us “insane,” “crazy,” “out of our minds,” etc. He should remember that he, also, has stubbornly clung to conspiracy theories in spite of official explanations. For me, personally, it’s that lack of respect that pushes me away.

He repeatedly says that the ‘truthers” dont think the shootings happend and says nothing about the people who have other questions. Same thing with 9/11….Glenn’s understanding is that the only people who question 9/11 are the people who say towers were not struck.

America is OVER! And Glenn knows it too. Can you blame the guy for entrenching his network/business while he figures out how he will try and survive? Or maybe he is crazy-er than we thought. I shut down the auto-renew on my subscription. Thank you Glenn for setting me in the right direction on some things, but I don’t need someone to tell me how to recognize the TRUTH or a LIE!

  I have been one of Glenn’s biggest fans since his CNN days. I have followed him and rarely missed his show. I was there at Restoring Honor. He has opened my eyes and shown me the truth so many times, and for that I am so grateful. I understand that after this election things changed, I get it. I know he has some new plans and wants to go in a new direction. I respect that but we still want to be informed. I want the truth that I can’t get anywhere else. I used to walk away from his show everyday feeling armed with the truth ready to share with others. Not sure what is going on now but I feel like he is avoiding everything that matters.
  Now I don’t believe that there was a conspiracy, but there are legitimate questions. Something doesn’t feel right about all this. I don’t think asking questions makes someone crazy. He has spent years revealing conspiracies and downright criminal activity in our government and media. Didn’t he teach us to question with boldness? I appreciate the attempt to debunk, afterall I want the truth. But Glenn I miss you!

what bothers me–mutipy shots in each victim,wow 26 people 5 minutes, the reactions of cops – these were babies-just walking around like nothing happened- no hx or adam being seen for 3years. brothers ID on him, looks exactly like the theater killer- a lot of psychosics look normal something is fishy

I like Glenn, I’m a Blaze subscriber, but I do think it kind of ironic that he will spend multiple shows and hours “debunking” Sandy Hook conspiracy theories and also spend multiple shows and hours “proving” Smart Meter conspiracy theories. Are either really worth the air time?

  sorry Glenn the last woman with her mother being the secretary stopped to answer two phone calls after seeing a man with a rifle and two pistols and body armor question with boldness Glenn, the triage was set up out back but they were seeing no patients but they took four to the hospital really. None of them children survived not one that was involved in the shooting, it does sound trivial but the American public should demand to see the camera coverage inside the school to erase all doubts. Until then I am very skeptical of what actually took place thanks to the gentleman that put Columbine shooting and the aftermath on a link to show what real reporting is. She hid under her desk and waited for him to leave but in the process answered two phone calls really? He just shot the window out supposedly where this woman was so close that she answered phone calls, personally I think Bigfoot still lives if you believe that. So I am to guess she never told the library or the other phone call that we have a shooting taking place or did I miss that part in that young girls statement. I guess it’s just me being critical of what really took place that awful afternoon.

  Glenn edited out the questionable part of the video of Emilee’s father making his statement to the press. When he comes out laughing and smiling before hyperventilating. Why isn’t he addressing that? After all, that is one of the big things fanning the flames of conspiracy. Why isn’t he interviewing the people that are the subject of the questions that are being raised? Certainly he can locate them. Things cannot be debunked if you don’t go to the “ORIGINAL” sources that are creating the questions we ask. Why not interview the school nurse? How about the reporter who spoke to the school nurse who claimed Lanza’s Mother was a teacher at the school. Bring the guy on who sheltered the children that were for some reason dropped off in his front yard that he said were survivors from the heroic teachers classroom. Interview the man that was in the woods behind the school and the Police that apprehended him. Bring the medical examiner on and interview him. I guess Glenn just doesn’t care to question with boldness anymore. This did happen I don’t doubt that but why are there so many unanswered questions still out there? We have devotedly done our own homework on questions about the things Glenn has presented to us. Why doesn’t he do same on the questions we present to him? I haven’t seen one question raised about the people he interviewed here so it answers no questions.

I remember reading somewhere early on about a little girl in the Soto class who played dead while surrounded by, and covered in the blood of, the other victims. She waited until she thought it was safe and got up and ran out. Haven’t heard a peep about this “survivor”. Knowing the MSM and their love for putting a face on their agendas, I would have thought this little girl or her family would have been interviewed somewhere along the lines. Has anyone heard anything about such an incident?

  Yes. At about the 50:50 mark of the following video, it speaks about the survivors. One is an adult, Natalie Hammond. And the child survivor is suing the state of Connecticut for $100 Million (at about 51:48 of video).

The SSDI database shows Adam Lanza to be expired on December 13, 2012, one day prior to the school shooting. Confirmation Status is listed as “Proven”. However the state of issue is New Hampshire.

The implications of this are unfathomable if accurate.

Could this be why John Blawie, a Connecticut State Superior Court Judge has put a halt on search warrant affidavits?

An excerpt from the local CT Post reads;

DANBURY — A state Superior Court judge said Thursday that search warrant affidavits for the cars and home of Sandy Hook Elementary School shooter Adam Lanza and his mother would stay sealed for another 90 days.

Judge John Blawie granted motions filed Wednesday by Danbury State’s Attorney Stephen Sedensky to extend the statutory sealing period for the five warrants, including three for the Yogonanda Street home where the 20-year-old Lanza fatally shot his mother, Nancy, four times in the face on the morning of Dec. 14, before embarking on the rampage that left 20 first-graders and six educators dead.

  Sedensky said in his applications that the affidavits contained information “not known to the general public” and that premature disclosure would “seriously jeopardize the outcome and success of the investigation” by “divulging sensitive and confidential information” known only to investigators.

This whole incident reminds me of the massacre that ultimately forced Australia to give up its guns, the Port Arthur massacre, where a low IQ loner with no military experience walked into a cafe and allegedly shot his first 21 victims with 19 bullets, all head and neck shots and with a reload thrown in.
If you compare these crimes to other massacres, usually there are many more wounded than killed but both Sandy Hook and Port Arthur were all kills, no wounded. Maybe Bryant and Lanza just had an accurate day but thats what smells fishy to me.

So i watched all the videos on this article and I am not impressed in the slightest. I must have no heart cuz I dont agree these were “heroes”.
-A person that answered phone calls after the shooting started
-A person that arrived on scene after the shooting stopped
-A janitor that walked the hallways where the shooter wasnt.

I’m sorry – but a hero would have went towards the sound of gunfire. I still dont understand how this thing unfolded but it appears everyone hunkered down or left the building. The couple teachers who tried to resist – they were the only heroes

  Soldiers do a soldier’s job, a noble job one filled with danger. Going above and beyond your duties is heroic. Applying the word so often to, at best, marginal acts of bravery (not saying anyone in this story was brave in their actions) diminishes the word and the actions of those that truly deserve the title of “Hero”.

I am no conspiracy nut, but why is the blaze pushing this story so hard? I believe this kids were killed but I also believe the government is trying to take advantage of it. How deep it goes I will never know but I do not understand why Glenn is going in this direction.

  I’m trying to figure out why Glenn hasn’t had Mexican families on his show like this killed by the guns provided by the U.S. government’s Fast and Furious. Do we deny real people were effected and people(children) were killed? No, not one bit. Do we turn a blind eye from something smelling fishy about how it could happen? No. And with true investigation, truth starts pouring out how the U.S. government provided weapons for the sole purpose of mass murder to promote anti 2nd Amendment agendas. Does that make anyone who knows what the U.S. did in Fast and Furious a “truther” too? With what Glenn is doing now, yes. I don’t want to hear another dam thing out of his lips dealing with fast and furious or even judging Hillary Clinton on her testimony about Benghazi either. We all know and can detect ourselves lies dealing wit those things. We don’t need Glenn’s voice on any of these things because he refuses to investigate anymore.

  You don’t have to be a conspiracy nut to know we’re not being told the truth about what happened, or rather that things simply aren’t adding up. Things that don’t add up:
  -How is it that there were no survivors? The coroner recently confirmed that none of the children were killed with the AR 15. With that said, it is much harder to kill a person with a hand gun due to the much smaller caliber size than it is with a rifle. Statistically speaking, someone should have lived through this horrible event, wether it be one of the 6 adults or 20 children. This is especially so seeing as Adam wasn’t a trained professional and was psychotic at the time.
  -How is it there are no living witnesses to this horror? In every other mass shooting, there were many witnesses that survived to tell the tail, wether they were targeted or not. How is it that of the few hundred people at the school, no actually lived to say they saw the madman?
  -Where is the video surveillance? We know the school has it, and that it was working at the time, yet there is not a peep as to its existence. Not even a small clip of him shooting out the door or walking down a hallway. Nothing is being shown.
  
  I don’t know what really happened on that horrible day, nor will I guess. What I do know is simply there are some blaring holes in what we are being told.

People who sound and look real because they truly lived through the emotions because they were victims too (or better yet, real society that were not involved [no we don't believe an entire town was involved]) Wow! It was said there was 4-6 minutes of shooting. It was reported that Lanza shot hundreds of rounds and had hundreds of rounds left over. So say the time of shooting was 5 minutes. If it was only 100 shots fired (low estimate), that would be an average of 1 shot every 3 seconds for 5 minutes straight. And he killed 26 people, shooting them multiple times. And this was all done not by Rambo, but supposedly by a 120 pound nerdy kid wearing a heavy bullet proof vest, carrying multiple weapons and many pounds of bullets. Does that make sense? Call me a truther if you will, but I’m going to ask some questions with boldness. Did Adam Lanza have help? Why was there a tactical officer (with a gun) from another part of Connecticut running into the woods nearby? Why didn’t he run INTO the school to help instead of running FROM the school? And why didn’t the media report that police were looking for a purple van with men disguised as nuns? And given that on the police scanner someone is heard saying “end the life of Adam”, why hasn’t the media considered the possibility that Adam Lanza was set up as a patsy? Is the media afraid to ask these questions?

  Here’s another kicker nobody can deny that there was a helicopter flying above correct? on the police scanners am not sure that I really cannot understand what comes through them anyway how law enforcement can understand it is beyond question but I don’t recall hearing for all available EMT units I did however here multiple police units responding. How long was that helicopter or better yet when did the helicopter arrived on the scene? In all the still footage I see two ambulances why? Is that all that community has we been told there were 600 students as well as administrators in the school at the time why did the helicopter not capture the police escorting the children with the teachers out of the school after the incident was resolved ? now we are to understand that each child and teacher were shot multiple times by young man that supposedly could not even tie his own shoelaces. Not one family from what I understand allowed an open casket who ordered all closed casket funerals and why? I’ve been to many funerals where people were killed in auto accidents and the mortician did a fantastic job for viewing purposes. Sorry: Glenn still too many questions to be answered did this happen I believe it did did Adam commit this alone I think not.

  Tactical police officers now where black shirts and cammo pants, along with a weapon, as they enter schools from outside their district I guess! Well, the bigger question is why did he park his car in the woods?? I bet he parked it out on Dickinson road! He was running back to his car to get more weapons before finding the gunman!
  
  With only 5-10 minutes between when Lanza opened fire and stopped, it would be normal for the school nurse to hide in a closet for 4 hours and avoid the police doing a complete search of the building! I bet she was waiting for the tactical officer to bring her a weapon from his vehicle that he parked in the woods! It all makes sense!! Just like the janitor And teacher aide story!

  thank you goose my nephew had a school shooting he was almost next to the shooter he dropped under a table and the carnage began guess what the next day we in the city saw the aftermath thankfully nobody was killed that day. A brave football coach teaching that day took the kid down and waited until police arrived. We had more coverage from the movie theater shooting than this one, why is a girl in Arizona getting more coverage in the courtroom then we see from the Colorado shooter? Why are cameras not allowed in his hearings? He supposedly killed 12 she killed her lover which one should have the most coverage. Things that make you go that don’t make sense remember Glenn question with boldness your losing my faith. Remember we had the oil rig in the golf, then if I recall we had multiple coal mine collapses in I believe three different states what happen after these events? we got a moratorium on drilling in the golf and the EPA saying that coal is dirty and should not be used anymore remembered Glenn. I do hope if your dreams come true that you once again become that serious reporter you once were, otherwise like on this blog with the pop up ads and all the like’s you will become nothing but like them. I seriously hope there is a drastic change in some of the things you do.

When a community set rules and safety measures in place for theirs and themselves, but decide not to take measures to arm themselves against evil and then are beset with evil because they didn’t take the proper measures, does not give them the right to disarm me in my preparations for defense of my family. I feel terrible that they suffered harm and loss. Preparing for a defense does not mean laying down, it means getting armed, in shape and up to speed.
Again, thank you Glenn for helping to shed light on this difficult subject.

  -What meds was the shooter on
  -Did someone brainwash the shooter? Did an undercover government agent encourage him into this plot?
  -Was the AR used, or not?
  -Was there an investigation? Did they confirm which weapons were used and whether they were all fired by the same person?
  -Are there any living witnesses of the shooter? Or CCTV?
  -Show us the chain of events so that schools can be better prepared next time….

  Soy apparently there was somebody that’s seen this this girl stated her mother was a secretary and seeing him, so the question is why did the daughter come on to speak on her mother’s behalf that was an actual witness why send your daughter who was not there.
