Check Out the New Gun That Allows Cops to Shoot and Capture Your DNA

High Velocity DNA Gun by Selectamark Tags Criminals With Unique Code to Ensure Proper Arrest

A new tool that would allow law enforcement to prevent criminals from running away or disappearing into a crowd before arrest was highlighted last week at The SHOT Show in Las Vegas.

The High Velocity DNA Tagging system by the U.K.-based security company Selectamark was introduced with police officers in a riot situation in mind. Coming in both pistol and rifle form, the tool would allow police to remain 30 to 40 meters from the target and tag them with a SelectaDNA High Velocity pellet that contains a unique DNA code to ensure the correct person is apprehended later.

“On contact with the target the uniquely-coded SelectaDNA solution leaves a synthetic DNA trace mark that will enable the relevant authorities to confirm or eliminate that person from their involvement in a particular situation and could ultimately lead to arrest and prosecution,” Selectamark Managing Director Andrew Knights said in a statement.

Here’s a look gun at the SHOT show:

I agree dumb idea.. if your suspect is wearing a full body burka or a coat all they have to do is remove it. Second, if you shoot this and it hits the wrong person, possibly in the eye, you can expect a lawsuit.

How much money did they waste on this?

Wow! A few moments and you defeated hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of research and development by a company that supplies solutions to 20 countries–or maybe you didn’t? So you know exactly how the dye, carrier agent(s), and synthetic DNA work in concert to mark a subject? You must as you state it can be defeated by removing one’s clothing and showering. So tell us more!

Oh, I know, what you said is based on a guess; pure conjecture about how the technology works. There are dyes that cannot be removed by ordinary methods, especially if you don’t have any idea how it works. There are a great many dyes that are irreversibly bound to the lipids or proteins in the dermis: the only way to remove them is to let time take it’s course and let the dermis be replaced. As for the unique DNA, that can embedded using several types of carriers. Were not talking large chains here, so small molecules can be embedded by a variety of reagents. Lest you start thinking your way out of it, I won’t divulge what my education has given me in the way of knowledge of these various agents, only to say that they do exist, some having been around for decades, and they most effective. A few seconds contact and your marked. The delivery mechanism is a bit more complex than a paintball, but I understand that being on your “level.” Based on what you’ve told us, the company’s technology is safe from compromise and will work quite well should it ever be necessary to use it on

I own Carmatech Engineering, a company that manufactures and markets LTL (Less than Lethal) firearms. This “weapon” is nothing more than a Tippmann paintball marker that retails for $220 USD in the civilian market. The rounds themselves utilize an invisible fluorescent ink, that is commonly found at amusement park entrances for hand stamping. Nothing revolutionary or evil in this story. As a side note, at least the gun (marker) is made in the United States.

When cities/ town/ states or whomever keeps and stores your DNA also has the means and ways to sell DNA to insurance companies which may check to see if you have some faulty genes and deny people life insurance. You don’t have to commit a crime for them to collect it. If the corrupt officials are paid use the power to collect DNA on targeted people it can save insurance companies BILLIONS. Just think about it.

Yup. Although soon there will be developed (most likely) a counter agent to getting the stuff off or out. The cops are not your friends. They are agents of the State, especially in the Fascist Kingdom of New York. As far as I am concerned. New York might as well be Zimbabwe or Iran. The headline is misleading. The gun does not get the target’s DNA. It only puts the DNA that is in the pellet on the target. It’s just a way to tag someone. They’d still have to find the person the old fashioned way to arrest them. But once arrested, they could use the DNA tag to confirm without a doubt that they were the target that the LEO was aiming at.

Incidentally, I really enjoy following FateOfDestinee’s YouTube Channel. Often educational and always entertaining.

Actually, they could only confirm without a doubt that the target that was hit was in the vicinity, not necessarily that the target that was hit was the one they wanted.

Even the most accurate individual misses sometimes, and the marker may hit someone else in the area or behind the intended target.

Why would they care about that silly detail? You were there, so you are guilty. Feed a few grand$$ into the “justice” system to prove you are not guilty…good luck with that, and in the end, they suck off your money either way.
Also, never make the assumption that a cop will (or can) hit what they supposedly aim at. To be fair, most in a LOD situation probably will suffer the same result. In a protest or riot situation, I doubt it would reach a LOD level. Grab a .40 cal paintball pistol and try your luck at 30-40 meters, hehe.

Consider also, what if someone with a CCW permit sees a cop aiming at him… and knowing he’s innocent of any crime, does something about it. One dead cop.

Paintball gun that shoots .40 cal paint balls: $50

    DNA tagger: $1000

Available to “law enforcement only”…really getting sick and tired of having that shoved in our faces all the time.

And for proof of guilt…you got the residue on you, therefore you are under arrest. 30-40 meters?? REALLY?! A cop can hit a single target in a “riot” at that distance with a paintball gun? Why not just get a big industrial fogger and spray the whole crowd? Same sort of “justice” anyway, right?
