Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s (D-Calif.) proposed ban on so-called “assault weapons” would fail to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate if were brought to a vote today, according to an analysis from Bloomberg.
“At least six of the chamber’s 55 Democrats have recently expressed skepticism or outright opposition to a ban,” Bloomberg notes, citing its review of recent lawmaker statements and interviews.
“That means Democrats don’t have a simple 51-vote majority to pass the measure, let alone the 60 votes needed to break a Republican filibuster to bring it to a floor vote,” the report states.
Flanked by rifles and survivors of recent shootings, Feinstein outlined her proposed gun control measures at a press conference in Washington Thursday.
“No weapon is taken from anyone,” Feinstein said. “The purpose is to dry up the supply of these weapons over time.”
“Getting this bill signed into law will be an uphill battle, and I recognize that — but it’s a battle worth having,” she added. “We must balance the desire of a few to own military-style assault weapons with the growing threat to lives across America.”
“The five Democratic senators from traditionally pro-gun states who’ve recently expressed skepticism about the bill are Max Baucus and Jon Tester of Montana, Mark Begich of Alaska, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota and Joe Manchin of West Virginia,” Bloomberg notes.
“Independent Senator Angus King of Maine, who is caucusing with Democrats, also said he opposes a ban,” the report adds.
Also, despite having supported similar legislation in 2004, it seems unlikely that Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) would back Feinstein’s proposed ban.

Jan. 25, 2013 at 5:05pmWon’t it be fun to see this dumbazz “president” fail in his long-declared mission to begin the disarming of middle America. He does despise MidAmerica, that is for sure. He was raised as a Moslem in Indonesia, a place that has apparently been poisoning tourists and students by contaminating alcoholic drinks with poisonous wood alcohol. apparently that’s “OK” over there because it’s a Moslem country they think drinkers of Alcohol are tools of satan. ba-dee ba-dee ba-dee… that’s your President!

Try and buy one of these guns, cant be done.
If you can get one try and get ammo for them, cant be done.
And if you do buy one it way over priced, and the ammo holy crap.
They just priced it all out of peoples reach pretty effective gun ban.

Jan. 25, 2013 at 2:46pmIt is not over. Everyone thought Obamacare could never become the law of the land, too. But there was a lot of greasing the skids, and it slipped through. So I would not put anything past them.
I am sure they think they can pass it by some means and get the confiscation in place by registration first.
They tried in the past to “dry up” the supply of alcohol and pot, and how well did that go?
There are many people who do not drink or use, but do have firearms, and absolutely will never give them up or register them. They are hard-working, honest, patriotic and many time devout Christians, Jews or even atheist/agnostic. They are law abiding, but will violate this law and become criminals by non-compliance.
They know right from wrong; liberty from slavery.
And disarmed people are slaves to those who disarmed them.
Pure and simple, this is attempted tyranny, and should be dealt with appropriately.
I don’t know about anyone else, but for me I would rather be die fighting, than to become and live as a slave.

Jan. 25, 2013 at 4:06pmWho will register? I won’t. Will you? Will anybody you know? Nobody I know who owns firearms is going to comply with anything. These people are going to be shown to be absolutely impotent if they try to register or confiscate anything.

Jan. 25, 2013 at 4:52pmGhostOfJefferson,you know it.The unconstitutional law of registering handguns(in my mind) is one thing, but coming after long guns is quite another. My family and friends have been wheeling and dealing legally in rifles and shotguns for years in private sales and no edict from the King and his minions on the Hill will change anything.

Jan. 25, 2013 at 2:42pmThank God there at least a few democrat senators who understand the 2nd amendment.Feinstein would have us all be unarmed but amazingly ALL FEDERAL REPS/EMPLOYEES ARE NOT SUBJECT TO HER BILL. B u l l s h i t! When a law is passed ALL AMERICAN CITIZENS SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE UNDER THAT LAW. Did you kno w that while some people go to prison for insider trading senators and congressmen can inside trad to their hearts content and it’s perfectly legal. That fact right there shows that our representatives are not looking out for us.Any federally elected officvial should be subject to the same laws as the citizens. The fact that they are not IS A CLEAR SIGN OF TYRANNY! Do as I say not as I do. If you do this you will go to jail but if we do it it’s ok. WTF?! For what reason are our elected representatives not subject to the same laws as we the people? Party doesn’t matter,if I am subject to a law then my representatives should be also. How can we trust them when they can vote THEIR INTERESTS WITHOUT OUR SAY? WAKE UP AMERICA!!!!!!

Jan. 25, 2013 at 2:39pmCertainly things are progressing at warp speed re. Feinstein and co.plans to neuter good men. But…even among her own kind, she is met with fierce oposition, and that will at least slow down her (their) plans. After all, Mr Kerry just stated it is his desire to implement Obamas ‘world vision.’ Thats another story, but yes, they desire the ‘guns,’ those evil little tools.
I’m thankful for a forum like this, where Beck and friends at least allow diversity of opinion. To those of you who say he a sellout, your posts are here, no? I guess we really do not know how much good can be done by engaging others in a vigorus debate on the main issues of the day. But Feinstein has to go.

Jan. 25, 2013 at 2:38pmIf I were a progressive, I would push anyway. A Republican will cave. A Republican always caves.
I don’t anticipate anything stopping them from proceeding: this is still their honeymoon period, after all. At least for the newly elected POTUS it is.
But if they don’t stop, will they succeed? That much I’m not sure, they have lost some ground thanks in large part to the average American educating his and herself about why we have a 2nd amendment.
(keep it up guys)

Jan. 25, 2013 at 4:12pmNo, they won’t succeed. We have the numbers, we’re hardening and steeling up, and we’re organizing and galvanizing. They overplayed their hand and acted out of haste, thinking that the 2012 election meant we were asleep and happy to give up everything. Thousands of armed people on all the state’s capitols this last weekend showed them that they were very, very wrong.
And the bad thing for them is that the last thing they need or want is an organized and increasingly active resistance and non-compliance movement of gun owners.
They keep pushing, their days are numbered.

Jan. 25, 2013 at 2:35pmSent to both Senators and my Rep,
“I think people should be honest with each other, and none more honest than people who are elected to represent their fellow citizens. That is why, you and I both know that obama and the liberals in Congress see the recent mass murder in CT only as a tool to advance their drive for more power and control over the people of this country. You and I both know that Joe Biden didn’t just make up his 19 points or obama his 23 points or whatever. These ideas have been in storage for years just waiting for the right “crisis” to present them. You and I both know that the president, Congress and the Supreme Court have all exceeded the authority granted to them by the Constitution and continue to gain even greater control over the American people. Finally you and I both know that if Congress allows obama and his followers to continue to disregard the Constitution, assume more control over even greater areas of the economy and lie to the American people about the need for this law and that law, then there will soon be no United States of America as envisioned by our Founding Fathers. That’s a daunting responsibility for you. I pray you are up to it. I’m just being honest.”
