This LED Gym Floor Changes Instantly for Any Sport (And Looks Cool in the Dark)

Forget highly glossed wood gymnasium floors being the envy of every student who had to play basketball on a converted linoleum that also served as their cafeteria’s floor. This new high-tech gym floor that can change court lines based on the sport desired instantly, getting rid of all the confusing, unnecessary lines on wood floors trying to be accommodating to every activity.

Have a volleyball match 10 minutes after a basketball game? No problem. The ASB Glassfloor illuminates the appropriate lines based on sport or other activity.

Here’s how the German company ASB Systembau describes the Glassfloor:

The ASB GlassFloor is the most advanced flooring system in the world. Its unique aluminium substructure and the custom made surface of the glass deliver a floor ideal for a sports floor but also for its use in any modern building.

The properties of glass allow for more than just an optimised floor surface. LED marking lines can be switched on/off or changed on demand.

T3 reported the manufacturer noting the $633.89-per-square-meter flooring has been tested to ensure it can withstand the abuse of sports activity, as well as meeting slip resistance and ball reflection requirements.

This floor is bound to be every P.E. teacher’s dream.

I imagine something more modest. Windows that look on any scene you choose, including security monitors of your own home… No holes in the walls for forced entry (or energy efficiency ). It could get dark if the lights go out, but there is a solution to that too. Remember how fiber optic can channel light around corners and pipe it where you want it? Get ambient light piped in from outside with a fiber optic system. Even solar power has limitations,parts break down and need replacing. Mix cutting edge with stable backup systems.

Build to withstand EMP, solar activity can throw some serious *^&% our way, and high altitude nukes can create a pulse that will trash anything in line of sight. EMP weapons are seriously bad news. Oh, the government didn’t harden the national power grid like the Nobel scientist types wanted. Guess they don’t take providing for the common defense that seriously even when it’s fairly cheap, and to guard against natural disasters instead of nasty mean people.

Coming soon to the few left who can afford it… Walls and floors for your home that let you decorate and change anything from the comfort of your iPad app. Even change a room based on time of day. Have morning coffee in your country cabin and kitchen dinner in your highrise condo.

  You’re right about being able to afford it. I took a trip to Disney Land where they had a Home of the Future expo. The house had Smart Walls that could become any scene with sound included. You could also with a word or touch turn your entire wall into a computer desktop, touch screen of course. It was amazing! So was the cost.
