How Dianne Feinstein Got Away With Displaying Guns for Her Big Assault Weapons Ban Unveiling

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) made sure to go through the proper channels when she displayed 10 so-called assault weapons during Thursday’s unveiling of her new proposed gun ban — lest she run afoul of Washington, D.C.’s strict gun laws.

Feinstein’s office, apparently mindful of the situation NBC’s David Gregory found himself in, asked D.C. Police to provide them with weapons to display, Feinstein spokesman Brian Weiss told the Washington Post. Such guns are permitted in D.C. if they are in police custody, Weiss said.

According to the Post:

U.S. Capitol Police and the Senate Sergeant at Arms inspected the weapons to ensure they were inoperable before they were permitted inside the Dirksen Senate Office building for the event, according to Weiss and Capitol Police spokesman Shennell Antrobus.

“We routinely work with our stakeholders during the course of their duties, and within the framework of the various applicable laws, to ensure the weapons brought in for hearings are done so in a safe manner,” Antrobus said in an e-mail.

D.C. police investigated Gregory after he held up what he said was a high-capacity ammunition magazine on live TV during “Meet the Press.” It’s a violation of District law to possess a magazine capable of holding 10 or more rounds of ammunition, but the D.C. attorney general ultimately decided not to prosecute.

I knew his politics and did not vote for him but not enough conservatives came out and voted. That I believe is the reason we sill have Senator Nelson and obama for that matter. They vote for what they want. They make more and more laws for us not for them. We now have a ruling class. I hope we can wake the country up.       It’s safe to say Feinstein, Obama and the rest of the gun control gang face an uphill battle when it comes to limiting any Second Amendment rights. According to a Fox News poll, most Americans—both Republicans and Democrats—would defy any new laws that would take away their guns.

      But on to Question 47, addressed to those with a gun in their home: “If the government passed a law to take your guns, would you give up your guns or defy the law and keep your guns?”

      The response: 65 percent reported they would “defy the law.” That incudes 70 percent of Republicans, 68 percent of conservatives, 52 percent of Democrats and 59 percent of liberals.

      The good news is that it probably won’t come to this. Analysis from Bloomberg shows that if a vote were held today, Feinstein’s proposed gun control legislation, which would prohibit the sale or transfer of an estimated 158 “assault weapons,” would fail to pass the Democrat-controlled Senate.

      At least six of the 55 senators in the Democratic caucus have expressed skepticism or outright opposition to a ban, the review found. That means Democrats wouldn’t have a 51-vote majority to pass the measure, let alone the 60 needed to break a Republican filibuster to bring it to a floor vote. […]

      We’ll have to see what our government think we should be allowed to own.

      -Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:

      -Background check of owner and any transferee;

      -Type and serial number of the firearm;

      -Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;

      -Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and

      -Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

      And here at the bottom we have the most egregious part. Grandfathered firearms must be registered under this bill. Keep in mind that there is an estimated 9 to 10 million AR-15′s in circulation. And these are just one model of firearm that needs to be registered as this bill seeks to cover most semiautomatics ever made. One could argue that this amounts to a registry of firearm owners in the U.S. But think about what else is being proposed; a background check of all owners who are having their firearms registered including keeping photographs and fingerprints (much like we do for criminals).

      Our beleaguered and understaffed BATF already has trouble enforcing existing laws with 4,000 employees, so how are they going to handle this task of creating a national registration database along with conducting millions if not tens of millions of background checks and processing of paperwork, considering that the BATF only processes around 90,000 applications yearly at the mo

    Don’t be fooled by this. Democrats don’t expect this to pass, nor do they care that it won’t. They are just setting Republicans up. They know this will never make it through the House, it might not even make it through the Senate. When the next whacked out murderer kills a bunch of innocents, they just want to be able to say that Republicans are responsible for the carnage because they stopped Feinstein’s bill. They are really not that worried about guns, since most of them are protected by guns anyway. They are just looking for a new bludgeon with which to beat Republicans over their heads with.

      That’s right they know it won’t pass but they’re chipping away slowly at not only the 2nd amendment but all of our rights.It took them a century and for those of you who voted for Barry that’s 100 years,to get government health care and they’re almost there and the same goes for this they’ll keep chipping away until they reach their nirvana of a total gun ban. It won’t matter even then though because such a law would be unconstitutional and therefore doesn’t have to obeyed and I won’t.

    I wonder if these idiot politicians ever stop to think, for just one second, that all of their anti-gun jabbering is responsible for the flood of millions of additional guns and billions of additional cartridges into citizens’ hands (the opposite of what they want). Anyone with a brain knows this proposed legislation isn’t going to pass the Senate, let alone the House.

    Congress needs to be a part-time job. It makes no sense for these elitists to sit around full-time and dream up stupid solutions to imaginary problems. We have FAR too many laws on the books as it is, we don’t need more.

    323 people died last year from long guns. We are a nation of about 311 million people. This dingbat needs a course in statistics. You can’t legislate danger out of life.

    So our servants can posses any weapon they please and we the people, (their masters) can’t?
    When is a servant greater than their master? and since they derive their authority from we the people, how can they have more liberty than their bosses?
    Answer : They have been subverting the Constitution of this great Republic for some time now, using words like “Democracy” instead of “Republic” there is a big difference between the two, “look it up”
    Without the spreading of this “BIG LIE” most people would realize that we are a “nation of laws, not
    men” words of a song come to mind, “Teach your children quietly, for some day sons and daughters will rise up and fight where we stood still”
