Chicago Woman Loses Her 4th Child to Gun Violence: ‘I Have Nobody Right Now’

CHICAGO (TheBlaze/AP) — At least five people were gunned down Saturday in Chicago, including a 34-year-old man whose mother had already lost her three other children to shootings. Tragic enough in its own regard, the man’s death marks a tragic pattern of loss for a woman who has seen child after child perish as a result of violence.

Ronnie Chambers, who was his mother Shirley’s youngest child, was shot in the head while sitting in a parked car on the city’s West Side. A 21-year-old man who was also in the car was wounded, police said.

Shirley Chambers, whose two other sons and daughter were shot in separate attacks more than a decade ago, was left grieving again on Saturday, WLS-TV reported.

“Right now, I’m totally lost because Ronnie was my only surviving son,” Chambers said.

Shirley Chambers’ first child, Carlos, was shot and killed by a high school classmate in 1995 after an argument. He was 18. Her daughter Latoya, then 15, and her other son Jerome were shot and killed within months of one another in 2000.

“What did I do wrong? I was there for them. We didn’t have everything we wanted but we had what we needed,” she asked Saturday.

Chambers said despite this latest tragic chapter in her life, she’s not bitter or angry.

“They took my only child. I have nobody right now. That’s my only baby,” she said.

A few hours after Ronnie Chambers was killed, a gunman opened fire on three men near a South Side eatery, killing two of them and wounding the third, police said.

On Saturday afternoon, detectives were called to the scene of another shooting in which a man in his 30s and a teenager were shot to death. There had been no arrests.

Chicago’s homicide count eclipsed 500 last year for the first time since 2008. As grim as it is, Chicago’s homicide rate was almost double in the early 1990s — averaging around 900 – before violent crime began dropping in cities across America.

Last year’s increase, though, stood in sharp contrast to New York, where homicides fell 21 percent from 2011, as of early December.

  It’s one of the only reasons why I refuse to move back to Illinois to be around my family, the damn Libs expect the cops to save everyone from violence, but nothing comes of it when you have thugs running about firing at will and taking off before the cops even get there. I’ll never understand the disconnect libs have with personal safety. It’s not like the thugs are going to wait for the cops to come get them. And in a city like Chicago, any type of violence that goes down, in the time a cop gets to the scene, the action has ceased and the perps are already up the road looking for the next victim or hiding out til everything dies down again.

  We criticize the liberals for exploiting mass shootings as a platform to advocate gun control before the bodies are even cold and the families have had time to grieve. How is this any different?

And this is the way it will be throughout the country if the lunatics in DC get their way. Too many facts missing in this article to determine if this woman’s children were innocent victims or gang bangers, either way the pain she feels is real, my heart goes out to her.

When the California economy sent many folks moving into Phoenix, along with those looking for work there was also the other element. After a few attempted car jackings and failed home invasions, those folks either left or gave up when they realized that most people here are armed. Now we’re back to mostly the Mexican cartels killing illegals who refuse to run drugs for them or attempt to keep the money they get from selling drugs. Criminals flourish and prosper when people have no defense against them, Chicago and states where there is strict gun control are happy hunting grounds for the wicked. Look at the mass murders, no one around had a gun handy. Those twenty kids in Sandy Hook would still be with us had one person on the staff had a concealed carry permit.

Are you kidding me, you lost your first 3 children in shootings and you still live there??? There is no problem with the area or the people that live there, it is the guns. I live in an area where i’m positive there are more guns per capita than where she lives, and that has neve been an issue.
If there wasn’t chicago, this never would have happened

They’re not capable of settling disputes in a civilized manner so they just kill each other.Yes more gun laws is the answer make another 10,000 gun laws and no one will ever be killed with a firearm.   Her “children” were killed because of one thing, they were members of a demographic that has consistently and repeatedly shown that they cannot handle the right to bear arms responsibly. I hate it that the 3-5% of good decent blacks must be lumped in with the others but, that is just too bad. Young black males are like a plague on this land. They have done more to ruin this nation than any other single factor. Rape, murder, armed robbery, larceny, auto theft, assault-these crimes are committed WAY out of proportion to the population represented. And since Obama was ‘elected”, they have increased by a factor of 2-3 at least. Check out the NIJ and FBI statistics if you dare. They are broken down by race of perps and victims. It will come to head some day. And when it does, we must take full advantage and rid out land of them once and for all.

  I lived in Fayetteville NC in the late 90′s. Three paratroopers were coming through a drive thru at a hamburger joint, they exchanged words with a 10 year kid on a bicycle,he crawled into the car with them, shot all three with a .22 auto. Two died. The blacks at work were laughing at how one of their 10 year olds could shoot the he// out of 3 white paratroopers, it is a whole nother culture. But I’m racist, I know, I know.

The Blaze is infected with the same (word usage) disease as the progressive media.

Gun Violence sounds so much more dramatic, and current; than Gang Violence. Gang Violence was so 90′s. We’ve made so much progress since then. Everyone knows now that Guns are sentient self willed beings. They have the unique ability to randomly leap off of tables and shoot people.
They also have the ability to completely dominate the mind of whoever holds one, and make them kill people.
Now that we know Guns are the “real” culprit, it is the responsibility of media to report it this way.

Kinda reminds me of Anti-Abortionists vs Pro Choice. Instead of Pro-life vs Pro-Choice. It’s amazing what one can do with a little twist on words.

  When I was a journalist – back when journalists were actually journalists – our AP Sytlebook, which was the official Bible for newspaper writers, strictly forbid all writers to use the term “pro-abortion” in their stories. We were allowed to use “pro-choice” and “anti-abortion.” Back then (late 70′s to mid-80′s) we weren’t allowed to use the phrase “pro-life.”

Children and adults have been killed by the thousands in Chicago and New Orleans (and other demo controled cities) for years and Obama never cared. Maniacs and gangbangers kill people. It has always been so. Guns are just tools. This woman lost all of her children to gangbanger violence. How is that the fault of gunowners in the suburbs? I am tired of average Americans getting treated like they are too stupid to own a gun when the violence and killing is concentrated in a few black areas of cities.

America is a big, big place. After her first son was gunned down, she should have moved to a safer place, like Arizona or Texas. Sadly, too late now. What is the #1 cause of violent death among young blacks? Well, it isn’t the Klan. Never has been the Klan. It’s other young black males.

My deepest sympathies to this woman for her great loss. I can’t even imagine. Perfect example, Rahm, why thugs shouldn’t own or have guns but law abiding citizens should!!!!! Chicago…thug land. Couldn’t pay me to visit nor give me a mansion to live there. The liberals can’t control anyone yet they want to control everyone. I really hope people in this country wake up and vote every liberal out of any office they hold state/federal, Dem/Rep.
