Chicago Woman Loses Her 4th Child to Gun Violence: ‘I Have Nobody Right Now’

CHICAGO (TheBlaze/AP) — At least five people were gunned down Saturday in Chicago, including a 34-year-old man whose mother had already lost her three other children to shootings. Tragic enough in its own regard, the man’s death marks a tragic pattern of loss for a woman who has seen child after child perish as a result of violence.

Ronnie Chambers, who was his mother Shirley’s youngest child, was shot in the head while sitting in a parked car on the city’s West Side. A 21-year-old man who was also in the car was wounded, police said.

Shirley Chambers, whose two other sons and daughter were shot in separate attacks more than a decade ago, was left grieving again on Saturday, WLS-TV reported.

“Right now, I’m totally lost because Ronnie was my only surviving son,” Chambers said.

Shirley Chambers’ first child, Carlos, was shot and killed by a high school classmate in 1995 after an argument. He was 18. Her daughter Latoya, then 15, and her other son Jerome were shot and killed within months of one another in 2000.

“What did I do wrong? I was there for them. We didn’t have everything we wanted but we had what we needed,” she asked Saturday.

Chambers said despite this latest tragic chapter in her life, she’s not bitter or angry.

“They took my only child. I have nobody right now. That’s my only baby,” she said.

A few hours after Ronnie Chambers was killed, a gunman opened fire on three men near a South Side eatery, killing two of them and wounding the third, police said.

On Saturday afternoon, detectives were called to the scene of another shooting in which a man in his 30s and a teenager were shot to death. There had been no arrests.

Chicago’s homicide count eclipsed 500 last year for the first time since 2008. As grim as it is, Chicago’s homicide rate was almost double in the early 1990s — averaging around 900 – before violent crime began dropping in cities across America.

Last year’s increase, though, stood in sharp contrast to New York, where homicides fell 21 percent from 2011, as of early December.

This story is absolutely impossible. We all know Chicago is a “gun free zone” so there is absolutely NO WAY anybody could be shot by a gun. You can’t shoot someone if nobody has a gun. End of story.

Also, since we are in the process of making Amerika a giant “gun free zone” then the police, military, Secret Service, White House, DHS, FEMA, DOJ, ATF, Capitol Building and all other branches won’t need guns either. This is great. There won’t be any guns left in the US. I know the government will turn in their guns too since we will declare Amerika a gigantic “gun free zone” so crime will be over with the very second the last gun is turned in. Problem solved.

All four were gang members, no sympathy for their deaths. They should have been aborted

Their deaths save society from being their victims. They would all be in prison eventually anyway, saved the tax payers millions. Let the killing continue unabated.

The question of why someone who had so many of her family wiped did not move out of the state?
What other state would offer so many state freebies and extensive welfare money.
There is no other reason for staying in that sh_thole! Apparently, the free dough is worth more than the threat of losing your family. If the guns were all gone they would use spears and blowguns!

Goes to show you; it’s guns in the wrong hands that cause death. Not the law abiding citizens. How are those gun laws working in Chicago…Springfield gave you the most strict laws in the US. Seven murders in one night..yep let’s do what is working Chicago………….NOT IN MY STATE!!!

It’s sad, but just yesterday there was a shooting in Memphis. The reporter asked this black kid “What can we do about the violence?” The answer was: “Nothin, cuz dis is da hood.”
In other words, the people there are going to have to WANT to change. Government can’t do it for them.

I feel sorry for this woman.. but at the same time I don’t feel sorry at all.. if I lived in a place like Chicago with its violence and that is decades of violence.. I would do everything in my power to leave, she chose not to and lost her children. And don’t anyone say its easier said than done..its easy get your children in the car or bus and go.. start a new life.. it can be done.. because I have done it more than once!

Just one gun in the right hands and the headline could be.. Random murders prevented by lone gunman.
Possibility of another gun stops 900 more would be murders at undisclosed locations throughout the city.
It is sad for this woman that she lives in the city obama built.

  What about? I got it! In World War 2, entire siblings of many, many families were totally wiped out, because war had ravaged families. Therefore, a new law was promulgated that said at least one sibling should be excluded from the draft. Hint: Move the family out of hell.

You want to know what you did wrong??? You raised them wrong, in the wrong neighborhood, with no good parental guidence from either a father, OR a mother. People dont just “sit in a car” and get their brains blown out. What area of the neighborhood was he at-a good one? or a dangerous one? Who were the people he hung with? Did he take or sell drugs? Trust me, theres a LOT more to this story that you’re not hearing because they dont want to tell the truth, the WHOLE truth, they want to tell you guns are wrong and this “poor black mother” lost her 4 kids. Well, if you cant feed and nurture them, then dont breed them. Stick a kid in the wrong environment and the wrong neighborhood, and you’re bound to lose them one way or the other.

Statistically, speaking, here’s what all four of these tragic killings likely had in common:

1. In each case, the killer was black.
2. The guns were stolen and/or purchased illegally.
3. When the government collects the guns from citizens, none of the guns used in these murders will be turned in — all will remain in the hands of criminals.
