What Does Ted Cruz Think Is the Future of the GOP?

Newly minted Texas Senator Ted Cruz has been on a tear recently in giving conservatives advice about how to improve their standing as a nationwide political force. To that end, Cruz recently gave a speech at the National Review Institute’s summit on the “Future of Conservatism,” and it has barely taken a day for that speech to attract attention.

The American Spectator describes some of Cruz’s more memorable lines:

“Tattoo these two words on your arm,” he said gesturing to his forearm. “Growth and opportunity.” Focusing on these inherently positive concepts, he claimed, would have a powerful impact on the electorate by demonstrating more effectively how Republican policies can improve social mobility and generate much needed revenue.

“I would love to double your taxes,” Ted quipped to an imaginary businessman, “after you have doubled your profits.”[...]

“We in Congress were mostly children when Reagan was president,” he explained, and therefore, in more ways than one, “We are the children of Reagan.”

And National Review themselves caught up to Cruz to ask him to offer some advice in person:

Benghazi, IRS, AP...What's next? Only TheBlaze TV offers the truth from Glenn Beck, Andrew Wilkow, and Real News from TheBlaze. Get instant access and a free trial here.

I don’t really care abouit that Ted Cruz thinks about the Repubican Party. They are dead, kaput! They have compromised the people into tyranny. I am looking for NO PARTY candidates. I hope Mr. Curz wakes up to this. Washington said that PARTY-ISM is no good. How right he was.

You have got to be kidding. You statement, “Secondly, have any conservatives harmed or killed a person due to their sexuality? I think not.”, is one of the least informed comments I’ve ever read. Don’t you read about all of the violence and gay-bashing against homosexuals? It happens every single day in this Country. And, haven’t you ever heard of the name Matthew Shepard? If not, educate yourself. While not all gay violence has happened at the hands of Conservatives, much of it has.

Or are you saying since repubs in congress refuse to write legislation that does not treat us all as equal, thus conservatives are to blame for all gay-bashing by lawless liberal retards?

The Republican elite are leading the suicide of the party. I no longer believe in political parties as the way to conduct government activities. George Washington said the political parties were dangerous to the Republic. And they are. We see that by now, don’t we? I literally pray to the Lord that we will be able to vote in 2014. I hope that the electorate will clean house in Congress.

They HATE Conservatives. Ted Cruz is better than most but a lawyer non the less. Republicans always try to pass of as Conservatives if that is who the people are in the District or State they come from. On the other hand, Democrats and Progressives will play to the type of people in their District or State. It is all Big Federal or State Government jobs they are after and they have to “play to” the types of people who will be voting. WHEN WILL VOTERS REALIZE that ALL politicians ARE Nothing But Consummate SALES PEOPLE. First they sell the voter on themselves….then they sell the bills (laws) to the people and voters. SALES PEOPLE ARE TRAINED TO BE NATURAL BORN LIARS to sell their products. Especially when the LIE is Government Laws or Themselves as whatever they “claim to be”.

A funny thing about so called “Conservitives”, they seem to be the most back stabbing group I have ever seen. If some other “Conservitive” (seems to be no set definition for Conservitive) has a statement about any subject the other “Conservitives” attack him or her. Now Liberal Communists all pull together to get the job done. That is why the second admendment is gone, Alex Jones goes off and he is attacked instead of just shutting up and admiting he has some good points. No wonder Republicans go Liberal, they only have to put up with getting attacked by one side instead of both sides.

It depends what she means by “The conservative party” Does she mean the same party that voted for endless wars that weren’t paid for, or medicare part d that wasn’t paid for, or tax cuts that weren’t paid for. Does she mean people like Paul “fiscal hawk” Ryan who voted against the Stimulus while taking funds from it?

What does she mean by “The Constitution Party”? There are tons of things that aren’t in the Constitution that are commonplace today. Are you going to get rid of EVERYTHING?

What does she mean by “The Freedom Party”? I hear you people talk about “freedom” and “liberty” while you actively try to stop gay people from getting married. Unless you mean “freedom” as long as you agree with it.

What does she mean by “Patriot Party”? Does she mean the type of people who want to secede from the Union because the Nation democratically re-elected Obama?

Show me your policies where you are actually arguing for liberty for all people, and not just for the people you agree with. Please show me your policies where you argue for limited government, not just your form of big government.

And will likely not realize that many here are not republicans and that “we” didn’t nominate anyone. The progressive fence riders of the GOP did. And I know no one who wanted the candidate that was chosen as any first second or third choice. The Gop AND the progressives are both scared s***less of the new breed of actual Constitutional conservatives. The GOP did not want Ted Cruz or his ilk, but they had no choice in the matter. And never mind who ever that was that said that stupid s*** about the rape thing. Whatever his name was. Another dumb*** who should have stfu. @Moderation
I take great offense of this post due to the lack of intelligence it provides. Once again conservatives and republicans are two different things. Just because a republican calls himself a conservative with like principles is just the same as saying a used car salesman is an honest person.

Secondly, have any conservatives harmed or killed a person due to their sexuality? I think not. You’re such a hypocrite. You say that we mis-use the term freedom to carry our own agenda but apparently yours is not such that is equal to ours. Here is the hard truth: Gays cannot provide a future generation to this country, am I wrong? Sure they can adopt, good for them. I’m not stopping them. But why shouldn’t government recognize a bond between them? Because they do not provide a future generation, at least only sustain the current one. I’m not saying to make it illegal for gays to get married, I’m saying the government should not be indebted to giving them benefits when they give nothing in return. Also marriage should always be defined as 1 man + 1 woman. Period.

@ModerationIsBest I personally don’t know Katie but I know you like to think of your self as a conservative but more on the line of a “moderate” aka progressive. So I’ll address each question one at a time.

It depends what she means by “The conservative party”.

First there is no such thing as conservative unconstitutional unpaid for wars. There is nothing conservative about it. Those were and are executive actions and were not constitutionally enacted within balance of power in congress. And right along with that Paul Ryan is not a “fiscal hawk” but more of a fiscal pigeon or crow of some sort.

What does she mean by “The Constitution Party”? There are tons of things that aren’t in the Constitution that are commonplace today. Are you going to get rid of EVERYTHING?

I would say yes. Tear most of it down. Some most go slowly as we are addicted to most and can not out cold turkey without causing physical/fiscal harm. Things like FED or marriage, government shouldn’t had anything to do with that union in the first place as it is a fundamentally religious act.

What does she mean by “The Freedom Party”? I hear you people talk about “freedom” and “liberty” while you actively try to stop gay people from getting married.

Again Marriage should have nothing to do with the government and vise versa. And second you have to change the actual/literal definition of what the union of marriage is. Marriage is man+woman. Government should grant

The dems will attach labels no matter what conservatives do. It’s the #1 part of their strategy. Conservatives must find some strong rallying point to anchor to or we will continue to be pulled apart by the divisive tactics of the left. This is the reason that the Republican party is falling apart, while the Tea Party conservatives continue to grow stronger. Our strong anchor enables us to stand fast while the left shows its true colors in its desperation to uproot us.

Moderation, we are not referring to earned labels. Obama continuously espouses the very same principals of socialism. Therefore, we call him a socialist. He attached the labels himself… We merely point them out.
We are referring to the constant use of misplaced labels such as the lefts constant accusation of racism, sexism and many others that are inaccurately foisted upon us. Seriously, even a modest research of the history of our parties will show that those labels can be attached to the left on the basis of their actions.
The point here is that the left will focus on any mistake or misdeed of Reagan’s and claim that those are the things that we cling to rather than the countless good things that he did for this nation.
