Erasing History: Ancient Timbuktu Manuscripts, One Written in Hebrew, Torched By Malian Islamists

If the ongoing excavations at the Temple Mount — designed to purge all Judaic artifacts, and hence, ancestral link to Jerusalem — are any indication, Islamists seem to be good at destroying ancient relics in their attempt to rewrite history. Such is the case in Mali, where Islamic terrorists torched the Ahmed Baba Institute, where priceless manuscripts of Timbuktu, including one written in Hebrew, had been preserved for posterity.

According to Mayor Ousmane Halle, the library, which housed thousands of invaluable manuscripts dating back to the 13th century and documenting everything from poetry, music, astronomy and even women’s rights, was set ablaze by insurgents as they fled French and Malian forces. While most were written in Arabic, one of the manuscripts, reportedly buried in a wooden trunk, was written in Hebrew.

“It’s truly alarming that this has happened,” Halle told The Associated Press from Bamako. “They torched all the important ancient manuscripts. The ancient books of geography and science. It is the history of Timbuktu, of its people.”

Researchers had been in the process of duplicating the manuscripts electronically when the newly-built facility was burned to the ground. Only a tiny fraction were saved.

Halle recalled the events of Saturday, saying that al Qaeda terrorists shot a man to death and set fire to the governor’s office, town hall, and two museum buildings.

Since Islamists set siege to northern Mali some ten months ago, sharia law has reigned supreme. Concerts have been banned, musicians have been harassed and forced to flee, their instruments destroyed and public amputations and executions abound.

French Col. Thierry Burkhard, chief military spokesman in Paris, said that his forces had yet to engage in combat with the Islamists who rule the area, but that his paratroopers and ground forces have quietly claimed the city.

“There was an operation on Timbuktu last night that allowed us to control access to the town,” Col. Burkhard told the AP Monday. “It’s up to Malian forces to retake the town.”

Timbuktu natives, meanwhile, hope the French troops will remain to provide protection and help Malian soldiers hold the town.

“Frankly, if they secure the city today, I am ready to return immediately to Timbuktu,” Nana Toure, a native, said. “French troops must not leave us alone then because those (Islamists) who fled may come back and cause problem to us. French troops have to stay a bit to stabilize the place.”

The method to the terrorists’ madness is simple: by destroying any trace of culture, be it ancient or modern, world history will be erased, thereby providing a clean slate upon which a new, Islamist one can be written.

Destruction is all they understand. Most, if not all, are illiterate and probably do not even know what they destroyed. Some Imam said go destroy that and they did. I would rather have a chimp slinging feces around then have one of these primates any where near my house.

Muslims Erasing history? No kidding. Funny, that’s what Obama is doing here. Files missing from the National Archives, creation dates disappearing from websites, Wikipedia entries erased. on and on. Once they get rid of the “offensive” and “bothersome” history they can better replace it with their fiction and propoganda. This isn’t news for anyone who has been paying attention.

  Yep, and if the Republicans cave in to the Democrats’ on amnesty for illegal aliens it will be the same thing as destroying our culture and re-writing our history. Because, when the 50+ MILLION illegal invaders get amnesty, they will shortly there after be given citizenship. When that happens, they will get to import their “nearest and dearest” from the old country. If they only bring in four each, that is 200 MILLION extra aliens on their pathway to citizenship. How many Americans will be left then as the baby-boom generation starts dying off? There are only about 250 million Americans living here now and we aren’t reproducing Americans at a rate where we could possibly keep up with the fast breeding foreigners moving into and taking over our country — not to mention the illegal aliens the Left wants to amnesty. Trust me, I’m a native of California, the Golden State, formerly known as Reagan Country, (and now known as the Banana Republic of Mexifornia). What do you think turned one into the other?   Thats one of the things that bothers me about this “computer society”. If something is printed in a book, it is history as long as a single copy of that book exists. If something is archived in a computer, all it takes is the touch of a button to make it as if that data or book never existed. I don’t care how secure computers are, they can be hacked and data changed or destroyed. Like the way Obummer’s book Dreams of My Father was electronically altered in the later editions to remove quotes felt to be detrimental to his re-election. Real printed books, once in circulation, cannot be altered.

  That is why it is important that we write our own transcripts. Write our history and what we experienced 1st hand. He can’t burn and find everything. Even ancients put scriptures into vases in caves.

Whoever controls the way history is viewed gets to write history as they see fit. Remember, the Taliban wiped out all reference to other religions, including the bamiyan buddhas, when they took over Afghanistan.

It was reported in the Washington Times back in August of last year. That’s right, in 2012, before Obama was re-elected. The Obama administration was selling arms to al Qaeda in Libya. Of course, who could believe that? After all, it wasn’t reported on ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC or in the newspaper of record. The New York Times finally released the story in December, after the election. What convenient timing was that?

In a more patriotic day, we used to call arming our enemies treason. A President can be impeached for “high crimes”. Treason would certainly fit the definition. But the amazing thing about the new “transformed” America is that nobody gives a damn. After all, “Bin Laden is dead and GM is alive.”

What is even more puzzling is that the point man in these arms deals was one Ambassador Chris Stevens, who is now dead because of a terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya that occurred last September 11, 2012. Doesn’t anybody think that something smells fishy here?

Certainly, security expert Frank Gaffney did. He was reported in the Washington Times last October, before the election, “GAFFNEY: The real reason behind Benghazigate Was Obama gun-walking arms to jihadists?” The story reported:

Can you believe the out rage of the white house for a burning of a Koran but if it is the Holy Bible or Torah they say nothing, you here nothing from our Christian president about the burning of these books or the imprisonments of our Preachers and Missionary And yet they call some1 here in the USA for burning a koran who has the right to do so. or call some girl who got called a slut, (by the way look up the word slut). Yet he speaks of gun control and gay marriage and leaves out God. Unbelievable. Sin is sin Jesus same Yesterday, Today and Tommorrow. Jesus won’t budge nor will he change to fit man’s views of what sin. should be.

Glad I went there a few years ago. Mali is very poor and so many of the population survives on tourism. Must be a horrible place to be right now.
