Great Grandmother Fires at Robber 11 Times After Mid Morning Bus Robbery in Detroit

Many Americans tend to view cities like Chicago and Detroit the way they would Mexico — they may have their perks, but you certainly wouldn’t want to be alone there at night. The latest story out of the Michigan city certainly won’t help ameliorate the reputation of lawlessness, but at least the victim was uninjured and defiant in the end.

ClickOnDetroit relates:

56-year-old grandmother and great grandmother from Clinton Township [Ramona Taylor Kamate] has a permit to carry a gun, and when she was attacked on a city bus, she used it.

It’s a bus route Kamate is quite familiar with, she’s also grown accustomed to seeing some of the same people who take the bus with her.

But, when Kamate boarded a city bus at Northland Mall in Southfield, she says a young friendly face turned on her.

“He was saying ‘you smell good, looks like you have money’ and I said no I don’t,” Kamate said.

It went downhill from there. “He grabbed my book bag and I grabbed it back and we started tussling, I bit him on his left hand. When he struck me in my head we started fighting,” she said.

Kamate says no one tried to intervene. “It’s sad you have all those men on the bus, and no one helped me,” she said. [Emphasis added]

In an interview with WJBK, the grandmother said one man told her, “You by yourself, b—-.”

The attacker then ran off with Kamate’s possessions, and people started yelling that he had a gun.

“Somebody said he had a gun, and when he turned and faced me…I just pulled my 9 out and started shooting him,” Kamate recalled. She fired 11 shots, but is unsure whether any of them made contact. No one else was injured.

“At first, I felt remorse because I have grandchildren,” she said after the mugging. “[But] if my grandchildren are out here doing what these punks are doing, they need to get the same thing.”

Kamate says she acted in self defense, and will continue working with police to apprehend the suspect.

  It’s not surprising that no one helped her. Eleven shots and she doesn’t know if she hit the perp? Everybody on the bus was probably diving for cover. Granny should visit the shooting range, or at least have the kids set up some tin cans in the back yard.

  I imagine she voted for Dear Leader. If he had his way then she would have only been able to shoot him 10 times, I hope for her sake that would have been enough.   I live here in Clinton Township and it has turned into a city I don’t recognize any longer. I plan on leaving here this summer because it is so bad. When you pull into a fast food they don’t say “may I help you” they say “WHAT YOU WANT!” like you just interrupted them from a nap. If you make eye contact in the grocery store you may end up getting kniffed in the parking lot. We have had 2 cars stolen from in from in front of our house. Our neighbor has constant traffic all night long of visitors who stay 5 minutes or less… hmmm… strange…
  
  Last year we had a christian group come to to hold 24 hour prayer to try to ‘heal’ this horrid city… we attended but had to get up and leave because even the ‘big name’ pastors of the city could not get along on stage.
  
  NOT to mention you can hear the daily prayer call ringing out and street signs in arabic in Dearborn, or should I say ‘little Lebanon’ – the silent boiling pot of anti-American ‘peace-loving’ people.
  
  My sister was a nurse at a local hospital (she was fired beause they closed) she told of woman in Detroit who flipped her car on the way to work. Took cops HOURS to get to her and by the time they got there she was naked and the car completely stripped. WHO DOES THAT????!

… granted, she should be able to carry legally… EVERYONE should…

but at the point that she (emptied?) her pistol without hitting anything (?!) the perp was escaping… he was no longer a threat to her, and i see nothing about his stopping, turning, making a threatening gesture…

A DA would be a fool to push it, but the requisites for true Self Defense are lacking, here…

it amazes me that even liberal MSM will push this story as if it was an appropriate defense by this woman, but will continue to push the Administration’s control agenda.

and @Doug… i don’t want to have to pay NRA for training or licensing, but it is hard to argue that familiarity and practice would not be expectations for anyone carrying. Range time does not have to be intense, and you don’t have to expend thousands of rounds, but frequency is important, so that you are not a danger to the surrounding sheeple.

  Just FYI, Im an NRA member and have never paid them for training or practice. Not even sure where i’d go for that. What I pay them for, with after tax dollars, is to support their legislative expenses incurred while fighting for my second amendment rights- against organizations that receive govt funding(aka-tax dollars) to take away my second amendment rights.

That seems to be the way things are these days. There truly was a time in old America that Men would have jumped to this woman’s defense. Not so much anymore and that is one of the reason these brazen little thugs will attack in the middle of a crowd. They know they are pretty darned safe from intervention from anyone. Usually people just whip out their cell phones and video the attacks for youtube.

  It is also the culture being taught in every venue, schools, work, and in public spaces. Call someone, don’t get involved in your own protection or that of others. Just look at how many people you read about that have gone to the aid of others and been fired for their Godly, American (of old) response. Then of course there was Zimmerman, who was actually trying to look out for his community, what an evil disaster that turned out to be. Martin was a thug similar thug similar to the one that attacked this lady, no question, researched and read all his tweets and read his Facebook before it was pulled, the picture of the 12 yr used ad nauseum is NOTHING like he presented the night I believe he attacked Zimmerman. Martin had already gotten into trouble for attacking a bus driver, with stolen jewelry, suspended from school, so it was not new behavior for him. What happened to Zimmerman is one of the most evil things I have ever witnessed.

  Guns are used more often for self defense, not homicide. These incidents go largely unreported by the MSM. Plus, in most cases, just flashing a gun scares a criminal away, and prevents any further incidents.
  
  If the Blaze were to report the majority of homicides committed by firearms, it would become a virtual news outlet for Chicago and DC alone. And, Detroit, Baltimore and St. Louis.. All heavily liberal and 100% Democrat. These ruling Democrats in these cities are cowards and can’t admit their failed policies and destructive agendas.

  There is no question that there are people killed by guns, it is just that the numbers don’t compare with knives, fists and hammers, not to mention cars operated by drunks and druggies. Guns do far more good than harm. 2,400,000 people have defended themselves with guns, in only 8% resulted in the weapon being even being fired and far fewer than that killed. What is proposed by gun haters is that those that own them be treated like child molesters and criminals, if they are to be allowed to keep their weapons at all. YOU need to learn to actually think things through and not let leftist talking point people do it for you. The demonization of gun owners that have done NOTHING wrong is frightening. And do read history, it is incredibly important to know history and how ALL the tyrannies first disarm the citizenry. Find it extraordinary that leftists are so willing to give up their rights because they believe the falsehood that it will make them safer. Look at the crime rates in the UK and Australia, violent crime is UP in both places. Then compare that with the crime rate in Switzerland, where every able bodied man is REQUIRED to keep a rifle ready and waiting. THINK!!!! Gun free zones ARE the most dangerous places! Yes, way to go girl! I was born and raised in Detroit and have ridden the buses. It was once a great city that my grandparents migrated to from Europe. I cant even go back home to visit the cemetary where they are buried without dodging bullets. Shame on the weak men who did not come to her aid.

Unfortunately she is a point in the argument for NRA-elite-training. Where did her rounds go, that missed the thug?

Gun control from the NRA-right or the Brady-left is control only, the gun is incidental. No training is what uninfringed means, else the tyrant decides what is adequate training. Gallus-snappers got theirs and you gotta pay to be as elite as they.

  Good for her. I know there are an abundance of inner city folks here in St Louis getting their concealed carry permits. They live with the real threat of facing a gun everyday and now they have been given a chance to legally carry to protect themselves and they are jumping on the opportunity. If only they would wake up and not vote for communists then all would be good.
