Politico: Obama Team Coordinated Gun Control Efforts With Mayor Bloomberg

Politico: Obama Campaign Manager Jim Messina Coordinated Gun Message With Mayor Michael Bloomberg

This photo taken Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2011 shows Obama 2012 campaign manager Jim Messina at the Chicago headquarters. (Photo: AP)

Do you ever feel like matters become top-priority political issues practically overnight, with politicians across the country utilizing the same phrases, stories, and themes to drive their points home?

In the case of gun control, there seems to be a new narrative that hunting is an activity protected by the U.S. Constitution, but that guns deemed too big or threatening for hunters will be banned.  In the case of linguistic synchronization, the phrase “gun control” appears to be falling from favor in left-leaning circles, only to be replaced by “reducing gun violence.”

It’s hardly a secret that top politicians meet to discuss their plans, but Politico has confirmed that President Obama’s campaign manager met with gun control advocate Mayor Michael Bloomberg to “coordinate” the latest issue:

Jim Messina, President Barack Obama’s campaign manager, who will chair the relaunched, tax-exempt version called Organizing for Action, visited New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office at City Hall last week to coordinate the fight for gun control legislation, POLITICO has learned.

Aides to Bloomberg, one of the faces of gun control nationally, had already been working with Vice President Joe Biden’s task force on a gun control bill before it was recently unveiled.

But Messina spearheads Obama’s political arm, which has been established outside the boundaries of the Democratic National Committee and has listed gun control as one of its coming priorities, and Bloomberg has already made clear he’s willing to spend from his personal fortune as a counterbalance to the National Rifle Association.

[...]

DNC Executive Director Patrick Gaspard attended the meeting as well.  [Emphasis added]

No details were given on the content of the meeting.

Bloomberg, who has also implemented various trans fat, smoking, and sugary beverage bans during his tenure as mayor, has been a supporter of stricter gun control measures for years.  However, after the tragedy in Newtown, Connecticut, he appears to have made the issue a top priority.

“This should be [Obama's] number one agenda,” Bloomberg said back in December.  “He’s president of the United States…Nobody questions the Second Amendment’s right to bear arms.  But we don’t think the founding fathers had the idea that every man, woman and child could carry an assault weapon.”

You don’t reduce gun violence by reducing the number of guns on the street. You reduce gun violence by reducing the number of violent people on the street, and you do it by any means necessary.

The killers and would-be killers have to go – life in prison or whatever. That will eliminate the majority of the gun violence in America.

I’m glad the government is not going to ban my 308 caliber 700 remington fitted with a sniper scope, with a effective range of 600-700 yards.

Yep, great rifle….mine is chambered in 30-06….and has a few deer to its credit. But give it time, and it will be outlawed if the left continues this momentum. In fact, I am surprised it has not been named in DiFi’s proposed legislation by virtue that it is “camoflaged”….and isn’t that a “military characteristic”? Heck, her proposal already puts 4 of my weapons in the “banned” catagory.

But let us not forget that the 2nd Amendment is there NOT to protect our right to hunt, but to protect us from a tyrannacle government.

“Necessity is the plea for every infringement of human freedom. It is the argument of tyrants, it is the creed of slaves”-William Pitt (The Younger)

For our well meaning friends on the left that vastly mistake the second amendment as either, a law that merely guarantees the military the right to have firearms when not engaging in war, or is somehow a vaunted license for hunters and sportsmen; we offer this notion, the Second Amendment to the United States Constitution is the fourth branch of government, a “fail-safe” guarantee so that tyranny never transforms our great republic into something that more closely resembles a liberal fascist state. Throughout history, every nation that has restricted the right of citizens to bear weapons of any type, has suffered an inevitable downfall, before this liberation takes place however, great suffering and subjugation precede. In order for an insecure government to control its people, two things must happen. First, the idea of a restriction must convey necessity, or the idea that for the nation to prosper, the restriction must happen. To associate an unfavorable restriction with necessity, associations with a pitied or defenseless group are generally made such as children, the elderly, and the less fortunate. Second, the freedom with that is to be restricted must be demonized. Our country has not been immune to these trends either, we have endured them before. The alien and sedition acts, the forced relocation of native Ameri

“One of the biggest factors is going to be how the media shapes debates. If a Republican member of Congress is not punished on Fox News or by Rush Limbaugh for working with a Democrat on a bill of common interest, then you’ll see more of them doing it,” he said.

Aaaahhhh, but I suppose it’s okay for the Main Stream Media to bully and bash Republican members who disagree with the Socialist Democrats. This is such a hypocritical and bias president…. What he wants is to discredit one of few and even semi-only news media outlets in the country. Wouldn’t that be just dandy for his socialist agenda? And I can’t believe that some Americans actually buy off on this sort of BS talk. If Fox News holds a conservative Republican’s feet to the fire for being suckered and going along with this socialist administration, then I applaude them….

      Well, my friend…. They will…

They may only have about 100 – 200 people, but some of those people call the shots… Sure we may have millions, but of those millions, who would be willing to stand up and actually fight to the death for our rights?? Not many that I know of…

I can count on one hand the number of people I personally know that would “fight back” against tyranny.

Its a shame, but will all of our “support”, most of it is pretty hallow, where the people backing them, are more than willing to sacrifice anything on the alter of bigger government.

Of course the Left co-ordinates EVERYTHING. How do you think Obama got droned into America ? By the International Left . They are just one big happy, Far Left family. This includes the media : the BBC, NPR,The New York Times, etc. They all go back to the International Labour Movement. The OWS is an international anti-capitalist movement. Conservatives apparently don’t have a chance anymore because the Left is so ORGANIZED – from ” communities ” all the way to countries .

Big surprise the collectivist wants to collect all our firearms,he’ll attack at every angle possible and we’re seeing it here with this story. Barry controls the banks and all of a sudden banks don’t want to deal with gun makers. Retailers have stopped selling certain types of ‘scary assault weapons’ and on and on. He can’t get around the second amendment so he writes several unconstitutional EO’s. He isn’t going to stop and after he’s long out of power another dumb @ss collectivist will pick up where this evil ant American sob left off.
