Terrifying Accident at the Winter X Games Sends Rider Flying and a Snowmobile Careening Into the Crowd
Snowmobiler Jackson Strong was performing his best trick during GoPro’s Winter X Games Sunday when things went awry and he fell mid-trick out of the air, sending his snowmobile — with the throttle stuck — into a crowd of fans.
One fan at the Aspen, Colo., event was treated for an injury, but the Associated Press noted that it’s not clear if the injury was incurred by the snowmobile itself or when the person jumped out of the way.

Watch the footage:
The snowmobile became tangled in a plastic fence when Jeremy Bester, of Prior Lake, Minn., was able to run over and stop the sled from moving, the AP reported.
This wasn’t the first snowmobiling accident at the games either. Caleb Moore underwent surgery Friday for a brain contusion after he was seriously injured Thursday while performing a trick in the freestyle finals.

Posted on January 29, 2013 at 8:50amI happened to be watching this Sunday. What this video snippet didnt show, was the announcement that this idiot rider had spent a grand total of 4 hours on a snowmobile…….in his entire life! He thought since he did this trick on a dirtbike he could easily duplicate it on a snowmobile with minimal practice. By the way, they fixed his snowmobile and later he attempted the trick again. And he wrecked. Big surprise.

Posted on January 29, 2013 at 12:46pmThanks for the details! I would think a qualifying process would be in place, but maybe the wrecks are a crowd drawing event too, like in Nascar.

Posted on January 28, 2013 at 8:28pmObamaaaa….you need to ban that sport too. I think we Americans would be better off in matching uniforms, marching in lock step formation. Enough with all these dare devil stunts, freedom and creativity.

Posted on January 28, 2013 at 6:06pmI agree with the above comment about a kill switch. Having said that, however, It amazes me that there haven’t been more accidents at the X games. There is a reason why they call it “extreme” sports.

Posted on January 28, 2013 at 5:38pmI understand the need to have the throttle locked on for stunts like that, but why not a kill switch with a long enough cord to allow the stunt?
Of course, then someone would probably get the cord wrapped around his neck and choke or decapitate himself.
Perhaps a remote kill switch operable by someone on the ground?

Posted on January 29, 2013 at 9:28amThat is exactly what they need. Just like monster trucks. Those little flashlights in that cab are the remote indicators, because the owner/operators were worried that people would find the frequency’s and sabotage their run. With the lights it can easily be seen if the truck was remotely cut off.

Posted on January 28, 2013 at 4:57pmWe were told that Caleb Moore suffered a HEART contusion. With the brain being right next to the heart, I can see why there was a mix up. I think it’s about time to look into banning snowmobiles and regulating Winter X sports for the violence. If Obama had a son and he wanted to participate in Winter X sports, he would have to think twice.

Posted on January 28, 2013 at 4:37pmThe injury was not “incurred” by the snowmobile. It was probably caused by the snowmobile and incurred by the spectator.
