A Vermont gun range has banned the Burlington Police Department from using its facility after City Council voted to advance a proposed ban on semi-automatic weapons and high-capacity magazines. And given the fact that such facilities are limited in the area, the move could impact when and where officers can go target shooting.
Officials with the Lamoille Valley Fish and Game Club told Fox News that it is hard for the facility to support the city, which includes police officers, due to the attempted gun grab by City Council.
“We have members in Burlington as well as members of our club that are going to be passing through Burlington and this would directly affect them and we felt that a prejudicial vote like that was going to be non-supportive of our club and being non-supportive of our club makes it very difficult to support Burlington City,” the club’s chairman Bob Boivin said.
“It is a constitutional issue. I mean, it’s not just a Second Amendment constitutional issue; but it’s also a constitutional issue for Vermont. We have laws that have the state governing our gun controls in this area and they’re looking to supersede those,” he added.
Responding to the gun range ban, the Burlington Police Department said in a statement: “It is unfortunate that this important and much-needed community dialogue regarding gun control currently under way in the City of Burlington and across the nation has resulted in this action.”
Burlington City Councilman defended the proposed assault rifle ban, saying in the absence of federal legislation or state law, the city feels the measures are needed “to protect our citizens.”
In addition to the introduced city ordinance being unconstitutional, Bovin says city-by-city gun laws would create problems for gun owners.
“If you’re going to a shoot, say in one end of Vermont to the other, you have to check the laws for every town in between, and you will pass through a half a dozen different towns, and that makes it almost impossible for someone to stay as a legal gun owner, and that’s what we’re concerned about,” he explained.
“The Burlington City Council’s proposal to ban certain assault weapons is far from being implemented. City voters would get a say in 2014. Then the measure would require approval by the Vermont legislature. Finally, if it does become law, it’s likely to face a constitutional challenge from gun-rights advocates,” Fox News reports.

Jan. 30, 2013 at 10:09pm1 thing, ban some type of gun.
2 get background checks/ track gun with that background check
3 get all guns registered.
4 make so many confusing laws so guns can be taken and unless you have a lot of money you cannot get them back.
5 Start taking guns one house at a time, call these people drug dealers, just make sure you find something when you go into their house. drugs. unregistered gun, anything that gives the government the right to be there and take all the guns. (Bring drugs with you just in case non are found!)
Once most guns are out of the peoples homes crimes will go up and then we can pass final gun laws to take away the last of the legal guns.
Done. end of America and Freedom.
How many rights will the sheeple have if they have to ask the government for those rights?

Jan. 29, 2013 at 5:31pmwith a 25% accuracy rate for law enforcement, I doubt too many police would notice, since they don’t practice.

Jan. 30, 2013 at 10:14pmThey have already made so many laws that there is just a few ranges that you can even shoot rifles at. I’m sure they will have to drive over an hour to another range, if they are lucky. Some counties don’t have any ranges. This will effect the police and it should. The police should stand up for gun rights because legal gun owners will protect them every day. How many progressive libs will be there protecting the police?

Jan. 29, 2013 at 5:03pmCoroner Confirms: No Assault Weapon Used in Sandy Hook Shooting
Posted on January 24, 2013

An AR-15, or the so-called “Assault Weapon”, was not used in the school shooting. The shooter even tried weeks earlier to buy a rifle but was turned down in the background check. So he had to kill his Mother to steal her rifle. There were initial reports, right after the shooting, that police found the AR-15 in his car, NOT IN THE SCHOOL. The rifle was not used. The shooter went into the school with 4 handguns, NOT an Assault Rifle as the media has charged.
In the initial hours of this shooting, the Police said they found the rifle in the car. But the Administration-controlled MSM had a pre-planned attack already waiting, to ban so-called assault weapons and jumped on that line of reporting, knowing it was a lie, which included people like Piers Morgan who said the shooter used an AR-15 that shoots hundreds of rounds per minute, as if it were a machine gun.

Um, your side of the dialogue was a gun ban affecting their business… their side was restricting your access to their business.
And you’re upset THEY crossed the line on dialogue? They’re not using the power of government and threats of arrest to force you to comply with their wishes… perhaps that is how you think “dialogue” works; but I think you might want to review the meaning of that word.

Jan. 29, 2013 at 10:45amJust a minor set back for the Burlington PD and city council. Most likely included in the new law will be a new state of the art shooting facility paid for by increased taxes on the local gun club. Or the council will use eminent domain to seize the gun club in the interest of public benefit and safety.

I wanted to stop them and ask them their intentions. We have enough disease in this state already. All the criminals will be visiting Vermont now! No more skiing for us in Vermont anymore!

Jan. 29, 2013 at 8:45amI would like to see politicians at all levels of government held PERSONALLY responsible for the violation of another’s Constitutional Rights. Some may actually start reading the bill and studying the legal implications before voting en masse for headline grabbing or faking concern. Personal responsibility could haunt them even after they are out of office.

Jan. 29, 2013 at 8:20amI live in Vermont. It may be considered a liberal state but all those people are concentrated in Burlington. You see, Vermont has only 600,000 people. And 200,000 of them live in the Burlington area. That’s where the college kids live, and the left wingnuts live, so they pretty much control the politics.
We have some of the most liberal gun laws in the nation. We don’t need any stinkin’ permits to carry a concealed weapon. At one time even Gov. Howeird Dean said he had “no problem” with someone entering the Governor’s office packing heat.
Vermonter is among the well armed states. Personally, I don’t know anybody around me who DOESN’T own at least one gun. And if you tell Vermonters you’re coming for their guns… watch out, because there’s gonna be trouble.

What would a militia use in this day and age? Since our military uses the AR we should all be able to buy the same weapon if we use your logic. Gun Nuts? How about no nuts?

Jan. 29, 2013 at 1:34amThis makes all the sense in the world to me. Since the purpose of the 2nd amendment is to make sure it’s citizenry are ready and able to withstand tyranny from their government, when that government seeks to impose an imbalance in strength and firepower (want to take or restrict your guns) why in the world would you encourage or participate in helping that government improve their ability to use force? Every gun shop and manufacturer should refuse to sell weapons to the police. They should refuse to sell ammo to them. Until they restore the citizens rights to the 2nd amendment why should we assist them in increasing the imbalance of power? Would we sell Nukes to Russia while they insisted through Salt talks we destroy ours?

Jan. 28, 2013 at 10:34pmYou should be making friends with the Police and sheriff’s because they are not required to enforce unconstitutional laws. The constitution is pretty clear and not complicated on the subject, and there is already supreme court precedence about transporting arms and the right to bear arms as an individual right.

Jan. 29, 2013 at 10:44amThe police always fall into line and have throughout history. Pretorian Guard, Gestapo, Stasi, the list goes on and on. All of this lip service lately is just that, lip service. When it comes to losing your cushy above average pension or arresting your fellow citizens, they always fall into line. Or better yet, they will just look the other way while the _____________ makes the arrests and detention. There was this thing called the “Nurenburg Trials” that prove this to be the case. Always remember the police are agents of the state. The only way a policeman can be redemed in such a time, is to quit. Fat chance.
