A Tumblr user, an alleged 15-year-0ld girl named Laurel, took a unique approach to letting her parents know that she’s a lesbian. The teen baked a cake (she called it a “gayke”) and used icing to place two simple and succinct words on it: “I’m gay.” Then, she penned a “coming out” letter explaining her sexuality and left out both the dessert and the note for her parents to discover.

In her letter, the girl used a number of puns, taking a humorous approach to a very serious subject. Aside from asking for her parents love, she also noted that her friends have been extremely supportive. Laurel posted the above picture on Tumblr on Jan. 27, quickly sparking viral coverage of her experience. The message on the cake reads:
good morning parents,
i’m gay. i’ve wanted to tell you for a long time. i thought doing it this way would be a piece of cake. i hope you still love me. i mean, it’s hard not to love someone who baked you a cake.
all my friends know and still love me. your acceptance would be the icing on the cake.
i hope you, much like this cake, are not in tiers.
i hope we can look back on this and say “boy, this one really takes the cake.”
it gets batter.
love, laurel (sorry for so many puns)

In an update post Laurel explains her family fully accepted her. Additionally, she expressed a thankfulness for the support she received from the online community as well.
“My mom saw it and cried of happiness. We hugged and cried together,” she wrote. “Then, we all ate the cake and talked. I am very luck to have such supporting parents and to have so much support from you guys. Thanks everyone!”
While not much information is given about Laurel and her background, an “about” section on her Tumblr page claims that she started her blog as an Ellen DeGeneres fan effort, but that her story about coming out through the cake has led her to expand the blog. She writes ”I now give LGBT advice and cake all the time always!”

I’m assuming the majority of people on here are right-wing, so although we believe in equal rights and freedom for everyone, I’m assuming most of us aren’t going to find ‘coming out’ stories heartwarming. Who are you trying to appeal to? This site is getting terrible.

Jan. 30, 2013 at 4:58pmLook at where the story is posted. It’s in FAITH. Since homosexuality and the morality or immorality of it is a faith issue this is where it belongs. As long as this isn’t treated as a regular news item i have no issue with articles like this appearing on the site. It’s the popularity of an article is what get’s it promoted to the front page like this. You need to relax.

Jan. 30, 2013 at 4:30pmFirst of all- you can’t choose to be gay. Being gay means you are attracted to people of the same sex, and you can’t stop being attracted to people of the same sex- regardless of whether you act on it. So what most of you here are advocating for then is for this girl to have just pretended everything was normal and then as she grew up and her parents and friends noticed she never dated anyone she just lied to them? Not acting on it doesn’t make her not gay- it just means she can never have a real and meaningful adult sexual relationship.
Secondly, as far as we understand things so far- her being gay is not her fault and is instead a result of epigenetics.(see this article in Popular Science for the latest: http://www.popsci.com/science/article/2012-12/being-born-gay-isnt-your-genes-its-them) So should she be demonized and ridiculed for something entirely beyond her control?
Thirdly, gay people aren’t ‘throwing it’ in your face by coming out. They’re just asserting their right not to be persecuted, taunted, and bullied by a society that frequently shames young gay people into committing suicide.

Were YOU confused as a teen about whether or not you were turned on by the same sex or the opposite sex? i remember quite vividly my teen and even my pre-teen years. At no point was I ever confused about whether or not girls turned me on. Your sexual appetites are learned to some degree but if you are a normal kid who hasn’t been abused then your sexual orientation is pretty much set from birth.

Huffington Post isn’t the place for anyone who believes in smaller government, or anyone who rejects progressive/left-wing ideology. I don’t see homosexuality as a “left-wing” thing. Its a human thing, a personal thing.
The comments I see on here about these such issues, makes it clear that neither those on the left or right truly care about the constitution, or truly know about god. Nobody is asking anyone to run out and hug every gay person, or just shut up and accept them, but a lot of the comments I see, are ignorant and not needed- which shows the mentality of those who have posted crappy comments. Nobody forced them to make a comment on this story, yet they felt the need to click on to this specific story, and say something dumb, or try to show how Christian they are.

Not very bright are you? She means it seems more and more women are becoming “gay” because they crave the same kind of emotional relationship that only another woman would expect. Men don’t want that kind of relationship, hence the constant tension in most marriages for the woman to provide what the man needs and the man to provide what the woman needs.

If your bible has the word “homosexuality” in it, then it might be time for a new bible… That word did not exist in biblical times, or the ancient world for that matter. Homosexuality was a word coined in the 1800′s.
There was a word in the ancient world that did put homosexuals in a category of those who did not procreate. The Greek word was Eunuch, and the Hebrew/Assyrian word was Saris. Eunuchs or Saris were people who either were cut/damaged, barren, people who chose to be celibate, or people who had no sexual lust or desires for the opposite sex.
Both eunuch and saris also mean “one who guards the bed”. These were the people who guarded the king’s wives. A man who was cut or damaged, could still have sexual desires, and needs. He could even still do sexual things with his hands, and or mouth. The act and the thought alone of messing with another man’s wife and or property (coveting another man’s wife) was adulterous, especially in Old Testament times. So a man who had no sexual lust or desires for women, were seen as the best guardians of the king’s wives. It was also much safer for eunuchs/Saris to have that job as well, as many of them faced harsh ridicule outside of the palace.
This isn’t some new aged left-wing spin on ancient culture, and by the way modern gay culture as we know and think of today- was not seen as ideal in the ancient world, even among those who were gay.

The footnote in my NKJV bible next to the word “homosexual” says “that is, catamites”. If you don’t want to use the word ‘homosexual’ then we can just listen to the Apostle Paul:
“For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due” Rom1:26-27. Do not twist and distort Scripture to prove that men burning with lust with one another and committing shameful acts is anything but the result of wickedness and transgression.

So that a bunch of ignorant fools, who think they know god, but are Christian in name only- can come on and talk about how they’re going to hell, that they are sexual deviants, and how everyone wants to be gay now…Not realizing that there has always been homosexuals, as long as mankind lost perfection. They fail to realize that homosexuality is one of man’s many imperfections, along with being born blind, deaf, retarded, or with some rare medical condition (saw one condition in which this guy’s skin kept falling off… I’d rather be gay than have that sorry).
Then these so-called Christians, also call themselves constitutional conservatives… Yet they’ll vote for politicians who would involve themselves in the personal lives of people- because these politicians who also wish to play priest, share their same views. They fail to realize Jesus did not involve himself in politics, or supporting any institutions of man..
Both the progressive leftist (including Republicans), and the modern conservative “Christian” right- are nothing but rubbish, and know nothing of god, the constitution, or freedom. They just pay it lip service, and use it when they need it- or to make themselves feel better than others.

“Who are you to judge another’s servant? To his own master he stands or falls. Indeed, he will be made to stand, for God is able to make him stand” Rom14:4.
It is one thing to witness to someone over sin, or by using the Scriptures and the Word of God to show someone that they are in danger of hellfire, but it is quite another to judge your brethren as you have for proclaiming God’s Word. The Bible does not teach that homosexuality is akin to blindness or leprosy, you are perverting God’s Word brother. You need only to look to Genesis, Leviticus, Romans, and Corinthians to see that homosexuality, like any other sin, is an abomination to the Lord. Yes, homosexuality (and all transgression against God) has blighted mankind since the fall, but that does not excuse us before Him. We all deserve wrath, and we all fall short of God’s glory, which makes Christ’s gospel ever brighter and sweeter!

At age 7 I knew I liked girls, as I had a crush on a girl I ran into during the last couple of days of summer vacation, catching fireflies. At age 15 nothing changed I still liked girls, and do today now in my early 30′s. Not quite the same for my friend… When I had asked him, ‘When did you know you were gay”, he said he always knew, he didn’t know what gay was, no little kid does, but he just knew he always liked guys. He said he became scared, confused, and later angry, when he learned what gay was, and that it was seen as bad. His parents found out, when a boy he had liked kissed him on the cheek. His parents were the super overly all caps “Christian” types, who said he was going to hell.
He told me from at age 10-21 he’d pray to the point of tears, to be “fixed”. When nothing was happening he felt he somehow did something evil that made god turn away from him, and he fell into such deep depression he had to be hospitalized because he wasn’t eating, and was basically wasting away. He’s healthy and happy today, although he hasn’t spoken to his parents since he was 17. He still believes in god, though he knows god does not work the way his parents, and many other hateful ignorant fools portray god.
He keeps away from gay culture/lifestyle, he finds it degrading and disgusting, and he’s happy with his partner…This is not something someone wakes up and decides to be one morning out of the blue.

A lot of gays kill themselves out of depression, and fear. If they were raised in a religious home, they fear god hates them, and will destroy them- and that’s kind of what they get from many who call themselves Christian- yet truly know nothing about what it means to be Christian. There are many who also fear ridicule from society, harm even. These kinds of fears don’t come from people who just wake up one morning and decide they wish to be gay, because NOBODY would willingly choose that.
As for the AIDS issue, this happens to gays who wrap themselves up in the destructive, and even more depressing world of gay culture. Not every gay person involve themselves in that world.. Going to gay pride events which look like freak shows- and only reinforce negative stereotypes of gays, or hanging in gay clubs or bars only caring about sex. Its a world of addiction really, and there are many gays who reject it… But they get hit with harsh ridicule from leftist, especially gay activist- as well as crazy right-wing “Christians”.

Jan. 30, 2013 at 12:16pmIn today’s world, a more shocking news bit would be if a young straight teen cleaned his room, cooked dinner for his parents, and vowed to be a courageous and responsible man in future matters of marriage and family. More shocking would be if he had self control and discipline and promised he would not fool around with women but seek a wife, respect her, love her and provide for her. Add to that, he would distance himself from all ill behaviour which leads to indecent acts. But thanks to the liberals, progressives and fake Christians, he should be able to freely express himself and find himself, or in the words of satanists, do whatever the hell he wants. Communists understand how important education is, wherefore they seek total control, manipulation, and governance over it. Parents today dismiss it as it not being their problem, but the state’s. What a shame. Willful slavery is what it is. Marxists understand how important it is to bring up a child in the values and morals which are to shape and form their future, for this reason they have dominance over it. They want to determine the outcome thereof. Unfortunately, in our culture today, youths are the influential figures, not our elders.
