MSNBC Reportedly ‘Reviewing’ Selectively-Edited Sandy Hook Father Clip After Yanking It From Online Story

MSNBC is reportedly “reviewing” the situation after it aired a selectively-edited video that appeared to show the father of a Newtown, Conn. shooting victim being heckled during a legislative hearing — even after replacing the clip in a story on its website.

MSNBC host Martin Bashir aired the edited video on his show Monday with an audience member shouting, “the Second Amendment shall not be infringed!” during the testimony of Neil Heslin, father of Sandy Hook first-grade victim Jesse Lewis, at a Connecticut hearing.

Omitted from the video was Heslin asking, “why anybody in this room needs to have one of these assault-style weapons or military weapons or high-capacity clips.” He added after a pause, “Not one person can answer the question,” at which point the audience reacted.

On Tuesday, conservative Twitter curation site Twitchy posted the full video showing Heslin’s remarks and the audience member’s response. Following that, a number of news outlets that posted the initial “heckling,” including TheBlaze, corrected their stories.

MSNBC didn’t exactly follow suit, instead updating the story on Bashir’s show page Tuesday with a fuller video and an editor’s note stating that it had “been amended from the original version to clarify the context of the remarks” — but not specifying what the problem had been (and not altering the page’s URL, “emotional-father-of-sandy-hook-victim-heckled-by-gun-nuts”):

But despite replacing the video in its post, Bashir’s original segment — with the edited footage — was still available online Wednesday afternoon through MSNBC’s media player:

MSNBC spokeswoman Lauren Skowronski did not immediately return a request for comment from TheBlaze about whether the network intends to retract or correct the video on-air. An MSNBC “source” told the Washington Post, “We’re reviewing the video in question.”

So NBC is once again editing in order to push an agenda. I guess they didn’t learn anything from doing the same to George Zimmerman and getting sued for it. Ideology trumps everything including journalism anymore.

If they are going to make up their news they should have to run a disclaimer stating that the stories they are commenting on are fictional, or lose their license to broadcast.

I don’t hold any animosity towards this man who lost his child. What horror this poor guy has to live with for the rest of his life. Us pro-2nd Amendment people feel for him and the other victims and their families, but we also understand that if the weapons ban and eventual confiscation is enacted that many, many more people (children included) will suffer in the future.

These overnight-dictates only castigate and inhibit people who would ever do something this horrific in the first place.

  thanks for your insight tsu. So hands up if you were at first calling out the Obama plants who were payed to “heckle” at a somber hearing of all places. Heckling is USUALLY reserved for comedians, so vocab check on that, but I could be wrong, I often am. OK you sir with your hand up to proudly display your pit stains, did you change your conspiracy theory a tad to reflect the new truth of this distraction piece?

“Review” it? This sort of “reporting” is a matter of routine for msnbc, now. They are engaging in opinion manipulation, facts be dam**d. Is MediaMatters still writing their scripts? Sharpton pulls archive video to claim reaction to currrent events. This is blatant lying. msnbc is trash tv, and belongs in the garbage with the rest of the trash!

There was no heckling as Bashir reported. It was a response to a question the man had asked of the audience. It was obvious by the way the man had turned and faced the audience, he was seeking a response to his question. That makes Bashir guilty of falsely reporting on a story that did not actually happen.
