Posted on January 30, 2013 at 1:54pmThe police chief kept saying that these semi-automatic rifles belong in the battlefield or in war.The military uses fully automatic rifles, not AR15s. If AR15s only belong in the battlefield, then why do police departments use them against civilians? Why does the capitol police use AR15s here in the US to protect our Senators attending the hearing? I thought these semi-automatic rifles were for war, not for personal defense.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 1:33pmI keep hearing that many do not have access to mental illness treatment. I would like to know how many of those are actually mentally ill, or just bad parents who have raised a bratty kid. The schools have proven they like to diagnose everyone and put them on some type of medicine by the time they are in high-school.
Furthermore to those who have a legitimate mental illness and lack of access to mental illness, if you are financially that bad off, the current medicaid system does cover mental illness and the medications. To those that do not qualify for medicaid make some sacrifices. What is more important, your or your child’s mental health, or having cell phone, video games, cable t.v., internet, etc.?

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 1:26pmThey sure are pushing mental illness. They even want the school to start tackling mental illness. Can you see where this is heading? Who will consider what is mental illness? If they get control of mental illness, then any right wing will be in danger of being considered mentally ill, and they didn’t even need a gun ban to disarm you. Hell, they can even have you institutionalized based on their “professional” opinion.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 12:44pmIf only I could have defended, I am a responsible adult. I believe in my abilities. I believe the love in my heart, my convictions. I am not your puppet, nor your punching bag. Step back for I am not defenseless nor a happy drone following your victimism.
If I could say in heaven, if only I just wouldn’t have given it all up. I lived in a bubble.. All these children that came to heaven after me, I could have responsibily defended but I thought someone else would do it. Yes I can do many things now I am educated, hold a title and many degrees but how did I forget the most precous of all. I didn’t become a defender, was I just lazy did I just take care of each day in front of me and the money I could collect.
In Heaven I might say I could have been a trained concealed carrier (ccw) and stopped the evil at the door. How many did I leave lead at the begining of their lives unresponsibly. I made them victims by not defending life. I am guilty of all that came to their death after me I cheated them of their life because I was not resonsible. Should not have been leading children without a proper defense in that real world. I might say if I was gone from this world. What hell I have to see now come before me. I am so so ashamed and have to responsibly face who I wasn’t.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 12:41pmThe Dems are great at bringing in people to act as props. They brought in the daughter of a murdered father and they brought in Gabby Giffords.
Why aren’t the Republicans doing this as well? Why isn’t that mother who protected her two kids last month? Why isn’t she testifying, or at least in the room? Why not show her sobbing as she hugs her kids and talks about how they’re alive today BECAUSE of her gun?
The Republicans SUCK at PR battles.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 12:56pmTerrific analysis! Republicans need to hire on some of the more successful Conservative Hollywood types to direct them into getting their message across. One of the unappreciated aspects of President Reagan was his ability to speak properly, directly and with empathy and still be humorous. An even more advanced form of this type of candidate must emerge today and established candidates should use far better propaganda techniques to get their messages across.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 11:49amI find that the idea of gun control has the wrong slant and bias in this discussion. Take Switzerland as an example, everyone trained, as a part time army member and has their gun in their home under the bed or where-ever, and do we see any problems there? .. Not to my knowledge, they have the right bias on guns .. this discussion is missing that part of consideration … dumb .. just saying .. but hey .. to many people want guns gone .. a nice thought, but not practical when considering the criminal element ..

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 11:35amDid this session disturb Leahy’s happy hour? This is a dog and pony show. The Commies don’t listen to the facts or the truth.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 11:33amI’ve been watching this since it started. I’ve heard several reasons for gun ownership. I’ve heard hunting, I’ve heard target shooting, I’ve heard collecting and I’ve heard self defense. Hmmm…are they missing something?

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 11:04amSoooo sick of hearing about Newtown CT – and those “precioius little children”. No one seems to give a rats behind about the hundreds of “adults” that were slaughtered throughout the country within just the last decade. Then…..”the precious little children” and America goes bat crazy. BOY DID THE LIB. MACHINE GET IT RIGHT THIS TIME!! Sorry Gabby, your ‘ACT’ was all done in vane and you are simply “old news”.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 10:53amThis James Johnson is full of crap.
There were 323 deaths in 2011 from rifles. There were 6,202 deaths from handguns.
These guys going after those evil black rifles are liars and traitors to the Constitution.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 10:23amI am not looking to Congress, most importantly Patrick Leahy, to solve anything with this clown show. The Second Amendment is what I wish them to uphold. “He suspended civil liberties and cracked down on opposition parties, paving the way for the police state.’-Chencellor Angela Merkel Her remark was to open the minds of Americans, to the history in Germany.

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 10:20amDid you hear the comments before the hearing started? Two Republicans wanted to bring in firearms to help educate the committee and public. They were denied because there was too much red tape.
But it’s okay for Diane Feinstein to bring in all her guns to show them off.
It’s almost like the Senate is controlled by one party and pushing their agenda, not giving the other side the voice they deserve. Real shocker, huh?

Posted on January 30, 2013 at 10:19amHere we go…
Bring in Gabby Giffords to get the emotional juices flowing. Forget reason, forget facts and forget statistics, let’s just make emotionally charged decisions and take away the rights of millions of law-abiding gun owners because we’re sad. Ugh.
Gabby says “too many children are killed”.
You know what, Gabby? More kids die from swimming pools than do by guns. More kids die by household cleaners than do by guns. More kids die by falls than do by guns. More kids die by fire than do by guns. More kids die by natural causes than do by guns. More kids die by suffocation than do by guns. And a HELL of lot more kids die of abortion than do by guns. All child deaths are tragic, but life is inherently dangerous. You’re not going to tread on my rights because of that.
Let’s put emotions and agendas aside and examine the facts. There is no need for additional legislation. Get rid of these damn gun-free zones and we’ll fix most of this problem. It’s not rocket surgery.
