Legal Immigrant’s Must-Watch Testimony Against Gun Control: ‘Few Saw the Third Reich Coming Until It Was Too Late’
UPDATE:
We tracked down Mr. Ong and he gave us an exclusive interview. See what became the tipping point for his support of the Second Amendment here.
–
During a public hearing on gun violence in Hartford, Conn. on Monday, a legal immigrant by the name of Henson Ong issued a passionate defense of the Second Amendment and argued that gun control simply “does not work.” The video of Ong’s testimony has already surpassed 130,000 views on YouTube.
“Forgive me, English is not my first language. I am a legal immigrant and I am an American by choice,” he began, prompting applause from the audience.
“Thank you for giving me this opportunity to express my opinion and give my testimony in opposition to the majority of the proposed bills, which do nothing to deter future crimes,” he added. “Gun control doesn’t work.”
Ong then launched into a impassioned diatribe about what he considers to be the real problem fueling gun gun violence — “societal decay.”
“Your own history is replete with high school rifle teams, boy scout marksmanship merit badges,” he explained. “You could buy rifles at hardware stores, you could order them… your country was awash in readily available firearms and ammunition, and yet in your past you did not have mass school shootings*.”
“What changed?” he asked. “It was not that the availability of guns suddenly exploded or increased, it actually was decreased. What changed was societal decay,” he added, resulting in more applause.
Ong pointed to the Washington, D.C. and Chicago as two cities with some of the strictest gun laws but also “the highest crime and murder rates.”
“If gun control actually did work, Washington, D.C. and Chicago would be the safest cities in your nation. But [they are] not, they have the toughest gun laws and the highest crime and murder rates,” he said.
Ong also defended Americans’ right to own so-called “assault rifles,” which are really just semi-automatic rifles. Citing a recent purchase of 7,000 5.56x45mm NATO “personal defense weapons” by the Department of Homeland Security, he noted how the agency described the weapons as “suitable for personal defense use in close quarters.”
He went on: “Had the Koreans in the LA riots not had AR-15s and AK-47s with 30-round magazines — and Ruger 30s — their businesses would have burnt to the ground like all the other businesses in their neighborhoods. Theirs stood because they stood their ground.”
Driving a point home that many U.S. lawmakers don’t even seem to fully understand, the legal immigrant stated definitively that the Second Amendment’s purpose was not for hunting.
In closing, Ong quoted a famous statement by Judge Alex Kozinski in his dissent on the case of Silveira v. Lockye in 2002.
“My excellent colleagues have forgotten these bitter lessons of history. The prospect of tyranny may not grab the headlines the way vivid stories of gun crime usually do. But few saw the Third Reich coming until it was too late. The Second Amendment is a doomsday provision, one designed only for those exceptionally rare circumstances when all other rights have failed. A free people can only afford to make this mistake once.”
Ong ended his testimony to applause from the audience.
* In reality, school shooting deaths have actually experienced a steady decline between 1993 and 2010, studies show.
In CONTROL, Glenn Beck presents a passionate, fact-based case for guns that reveals why gun control isn’t really about controlling guns at all; it’s about controlling us. Posted on January 31, 2013 at 7:54amWhat tax did Mr. Ong pay to have his voice heard in Congress that we here can’t – have our voices heard or pay the tax.
Are the political parties and their media enablers demanding a tax, like a poll tax, on our Four boxes of liberty, (liberty rests on four boxes,) soap, ballot, jury and cartridge?

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 7:49amMakes me want to install a test at 18 years old for our citizens, The citizenship test like immigrants have to take. Maybe then our own citizens would learn about our great countries past. I read that we citizens could not pass the current test, really sad.

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 7:24amTHIS is a great American!
You can tell that this guy worked hard to become a good citizen of the United States. He learned the language, he’s learned some history and he got his citizenship legally. He worked for it! Because he worked for it–it wasn’t just handed to him–he has a stake in the future of this nation and is thereby motivated to become a positive force in our slow and lumbering political system.
Good for him! I salute him and hope we get more immigrants like this. Those that don’t want to learn our language, those that don’t want to respect our flag, and those who don’t want any part of the American culture can pound sand back to whatever crap-hole country they came from!

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 7:26amThis admin does understand gun rights, they also know that people will not give up guns willingly…so if they impose restrictions and CHARGE a TAX for owning an assault rifle (of which is not $200) that adds up to a LOT of money…..just sayin’

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 6:40amMy fellow countryman (Mr. Ong) Thank you for your patriotism, your willingness to call yourself an American without a descriptor in front (Mexican American, Korean American, German American…), your willingness to learn our language our desire to assimilate and most of all your sensible and poignant testimony.
I hope many will hear and heed what you had to say. You are a true American. I am proud to call you my fellow countryman.

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 4:43amI am for legal immigration because true AMERICAN”S are born all over the world not just in America. There are millions of people born here in American that are actually communist and socialist but haven’t went home yet..
If we are going to open our doors lets make sure we are opening our doors to people that understand what America is all about. What it means to be free. We do not need people here that want to keep their own language and fly their own flag… We are a melting pot and the language we all speak id English you cannot expect all people to learn all languages so we melt together using English..

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 4:34amWell, it’s looking like someone has to draw first. Who’s it gonna be? Are we to wait until they wake us up in the middle of the night, unprepared and force their way into the homes of all the “legally registered” gun owners? That will be too late. If the government decides to act on this, there will be no warning, no amnesty period. Some folks believe that any politician or government official who has been instrumental in creating new laws removing or limiting our Constitutional rights has willfully and with malice aforethought, made of themselves an enemy of the U.S. Those laws written and enacted against our freedoms may be considered an act of aggression against the people. And those same folks may be thinking now is about the time to s**t or get off the pot.

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 3:48amMr. Ong clearly demonstrates a trait that I have seen with several other legal immigrants to the U.S. that I have met over the years. They love what the U.S. stands for, what she is as an idea, and do what they need to become a prt of our society. They want to embrace the American dream. They don’t, however, creep in during the night and re-create separatist ghettoes where no speaking of Englishis even attempted, wanting nothing more to do with America than live on her soil and abuse her social services.
Mr. Ong, welcome to the U.S. and thank you for your comments!

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 3:29amAny and all gun control laws, are by definition, infringements of your 2nd amendment right. We are called the United States of America because we are united on the belief that the constitution is the supreme law of the land. Every state constitution reflects this belief. No state can supersede the USC to the point of eliminating the rights guaranteed by it. All law enforcement, and government members swear a solemn oath to uphold it. So my question is, why can’t I walk the streets with my arms, without having a permit? Then being stopped by law enforcement, and refusing to surrender my weapon of choice, for not having the permit that they(not the constitution)require. I could actually be shot dead for exercising the constitutional right that they have sworn to uphold. I am opposed to what Glenn has said, about fighting this in court, after they take your guns. But, I agree with him about getting tight with your sheriff. The 2nd amendment is like any tool. It has to be used in order to get the work done.

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 2:58amO.K, Sorry folks, totally off topic, but I gotta vent. Just read on newsmax that the childhood home of Ronald Reagan in Chicago is to be demolished for….a parking lot. ****** me off. Ready for the kicker? Ready to be junk punched by the radical Obama sycophants? The parking lot in question is for the Barack Obama Presidential Library. In a city the size of Chicago, you’re going to tell me that there was just absolutely no other place that they could put up their Temple to Satan? This is a slap in the face to generations of Americans who know that Reagan was a national treasure, and now his childhood home is to be torn down by a corrupt government run by a fraud who’s sole intent seems to be to tear down the entire country. Sorry to be so off topic, but it just sickens me. The time for Revolution is at hand, all pretense of compromise had been removed. Obama has nothing but ill will for anyone who is not lock step with his thinking and worshipping the very ground he walks on. These will be remembered along with the Revolutionary & Civil wars as the darkest days in our nations history. The Tree of Liberty is dying and “we the people” must be good stewards and refresh it.

Posted on February 1, 2013 at 11:03amPatriot; It’s how they find out what they can get away with and how advanced America’s cultural rot has become.
Since there was virtually ‘no’ response to their proposal to turn Reagan’s house into a parking lot, my guess is, no one cares what they do anymore. It’s a green light. Get used to it… you ain’t seen nuttin yet!

Posted on January 31, 2013 at 2:52amI would like to see a whole host of legal immigrants who have fled from tyranny tell their stories to the American people via news networks, internet, Congressional hearings, ect. Let’s ramp it up and hear from those who like Mr. Ong can teach us a thing or two. My grandparents got out of Russia just before the Bolshevik revolution. I am so grateful to have had the privilege of living in America, but it’s turning into a place I don’t even recognize.
