‘Gay’ Dog Abandoned by His Owner Over His Alleged Sexuality Was About to Be Euthanized — but Narrowly Escapes Death

It’s a bizarre case about an allegedly gay dog who was given up by his owner and then subsequently saved by a caring soul. Elton, a male American bulldog, was purportedly given over to the the Jackson Rabies Control Animal Shelter in Tennessee after he was discovered mounting another male dog. Convinced that the canine was gay, his owner left the pooch with shelter staffers, dooming him to be potentially euthanized.

A Facebook post from an individual connected to the animal shelter explains the bizarre story:

This guy was signed over to RC, not bc he’s mean or bc he tears things up, but because… His owner says he’s gay! He hunched another male dog so his owner threw him away bc he refuses to have a “gay” dog! Even if that weren’t the most assinine thing I’ve ever heard, its still discrimination! Don’t let this gorgeous dog die bc his owner is ignorant of normal dog behavior! He’s in kennel 10L and he WILL be put down tomorrow bc there is no room at the inn!

As of Friday afternoon, the post was “liked” more than 1,100 times, spawned more than 2,000 comments and was shared more than 5,300 times. Luckily for Elton, a woman who was moved by the story decided to adopt him. Stephanie Fryns, who saw the story on Facebook, subsequently rushed to adopt the dog. She posted her plans on the original announcement about the pooch’s plight.

“I am adopting this big boy first thing in the morning,” she wrote, according to Boston.com. “He will be neutered/ htwm tested/ and vetted. He will be temperament tested and then places in a rescue verified and approved home.”

Fryns inevitably made it to the shelter just hours before the dog was scheduled to be put down. So far, she claims he’s “pretty friendly.”

Dogs hump everything. Legs, sofas, stuffed animals, each other, other animals, blankets, empty air. I had brother and sister labs about 10 years ago and the sister would mount the brother and go to town. I’ve never heard it referred to as “hunching” before though.

LOL!!!…………..my dog (neutered) has been mounting(male) dogs for the past nine years of his life. He is slowing down a bit though. Some people are too stupid to own dogs. It is a blessing this ditz gave him up, for him to find a home with a sane owner.
Mine does live with another male and never humps him, for the obvious reason. The younger male KNOWS the old geezer is the KING and he is a mere Princeling.

For what it’s worth… A guy I knew in the service, who grew up on a farm said when a bull mounted another bull, it was because the bull on the bottom was giving off the scent of a cow, and actually would be considered the “gay” one. The one on top was just doing what comes naturally! I don’t know if it applies to dogs, but hey why not?

All the idiot first owner needed to do was get him “fixed.” That stops ALL kinds of other unwanted behavior, like humping the guests at dinner, etc.

Spay or neuter the pets you plan to keep! Don’t get a pet unless you plan to keep it!

  You’re wrong, Elena. Both of my male dogs are fixed and they hump each other continuously. It’s not a sexual thing, so neutering really doesn’t have any effect on it. It’s a dominance thing.

Some people should not own pets! All hunting pack animals have an Alfa male and female. They show they are dominate in many way. That is just one. Get him fixed and the Alfa will go away. I hope he finds a forever home.

I have two Labs. My Yellow (Sam) is always ‘practicing’ on my Fox Red (Red). They’re both neutered (sorry boys) so how could Sam be gay?…as if dog’s could be gay.

I blame the gay activists for this. They have been working so hard to make it seem like being gay is natural that they have been talking a lot about gay animals. Only an ignoramus would believe that and try to convince everyone that dominance behavior exhibited by animals is because they have a sexual craving for a being of the same gender.

  To those gay activist you know prisoners have sex all the time and in most cases it’s not because they’re gay. If you’re choices are limited you have to work with what you have. Which explains over half of the gay population.

  Exactly as soon as you establish that your sofa is male the gay community will swear its proof of homosexuality being normal.

I am sooo happy to see this.. this was on my facebook page a few days ago and it broke my heart. So many idiots that should not own animals in the first place. To be a good pet owner, you have to understand their natural behavior.. they are not people. I have a wonderful relationship with my 3 dogs because they know who runs the house… yes, sometime it is them!

You can’t make these stories up. Good grief, he mounts another male dog & wants to put him down? Even if the dog was gay, who cares? For one thing, I’ve seen male dogs who will mount mostly females but will mount a male dog also. My dog even likes to hump his bed.
