Gallup: Here Are the Most ‘Conservative’ & ‘Liberal’ States

Alabama is the most “conservative” state in the U.S., with roughly 50 percent of its residents “identifying their ideology as conservative,” trailed closely by North Dakota and Wyoming (both 48.6 percent), according to a recent survey by Gallup.

Gallup Reports on the Most Conservative & Liberal States

Meanwhile, in the nation’s capital, it’s the exact opposite.

About forty percent of Washington, D.C., identifies as “liberal,” which puts the District about ten points ahead of Massachusetts (30.5), the nation’s second-most liberal state, and Oregon (29.3).

“Alaska came in as the state with the most moderates in the country, with 42.7 percent of its residents clocking in as moderate, according to the survey,” POLITICO notes. “Alaska was followed by Rhode Island, with 41.5 percent, and Ohio, 39.5 percent.”

And here’s something worth considering (via Gallup):

Overall, Americans in 2012 remained slightly more likely to identify as conservative (38%) than as moderate (36%) or as liberal (23%), a pattern that reflects the general consistency in ideological self-reports over recent years.

More broadly, the percentage of Americans identifying with each of these ideological labels has been remarkably consistent since Gallup tracking began in 2008. The range of each has varied by a maximum of only three points.

So what’s the bottom line?

“America has become a slightly more liberal and a slightly less conservative nation than it was in 2011 — based on residents’ self-reports of their ideology — but conservatives still outnumber both moderates and liberals,” the survey notes.

“The geographic dispersion of ideology across the states follows what are by now familiar lines of political demarcation. The most conservative states are in the South, Midwest, and Mountain West, while the most liberal are on the East or the West Coast,” it adds.

I have the wonderful blessing of living in the Soviet State of Washington. While the population is mostly liberal, we conservatives control the majority of the land. They have the cities, we have the country. I wonder what would happen if we decided not to ship our produce and meats to their cities.

I live in Oklahoma and the liberals did not win one single county in the entire state, If you think that equals 48%, you need to start school all over again. These polls are useless. They do a poll until they think they have the answer they want. No way is OK 48%.

As long as liberals are willing to say anything, do anything, tell any lie, and manipulate those who haven’t taken time to inform themselves of the truth, it’s going to be hard for conservatives to defeat them, because conservatives, by definition, are live-and-let-live people and they’re NOT willing to lie, cheat, use Alinsky methods, or manipulate.

We conservatives would rather lose and stand on our values and morals than win by doing what liberals are willing to do.

And as far as believing in God and the 10 Commandments and believing in the Bible, God is on the side of values and morals. We’ve read the book. We know who wins. But we also know who is the father of lies. The Bible is clear. But the Bible is also clear that our faith is in God, not government. Government cannot and will not ever replace God, and God is love and truth and light. He actually DOES love his children and will take care of us. The government will always be full of those who are there for the underhanded deals and money.

True conservatives want no part of the very thing liberals feed on – true greed, true self-aggrandizement – at any cost. And it doesn’t bother them a bit to gain their power on the backs of those too busy to inform themselves of the truth – or any way, for that matter, apparently, from all the videos we’ve seen.

Then what/who IS “about Liberty”, WF? 50 points on The Offical Big Mick “Name that Classic Allusion” Scoring List for the Battlestar Galactica allusion by the way.
To me the essence of Constitutional Conservationism is the Founders Vision of Extremely Radically Limited Government existing SOLELY to secure God Endowed Unalienable Individual Rights with the consent of the governed as expressed Foundationally in the Declaration. To me that makes Conservatism all about Individual Liberty.
But, if you can rebut that and make a Prima Facie case for some other Group/Thing/Principle being MORE about Liberty, Trot er Out.

I live in Colorado–yes we have the ‘high ground’…Been seeing lots of pot jokes lately. However, I reside in perhaps the most conservative county in Colorado, El Paso County. Denver and the ski areas have a swarm of idiots who voted for Obama or didn’t vote because of their pompous attitudes. In any event, as our state is not on the little survey Gallup produced, it proves we are still undecided as to our voting force and preference. No matter the color of our state, it is the best state in the union and we need no poll for that. {: As I say on my radio shows, we welcome all conservatives; liberals and ignorant jackasses who didn’t vote last November, stay where you are.

They send communists to Washington for Gods sake. Something is wrong in Vermont. Maybe this is the first case where we can prove Liberalism is a mental illness. There Reps in Washington want to take ours yet they live free. Strange breed up there.

Dang it — like everything else, California has lost its edge.

Warning to the rest of you — we (California) is sub-bad — a reality that the rest of you can only deeply aspire to! We are dumber than dumb ****; weirder than totally wacked; and more asinine than you’ll.

D.C. and Mass are Sunday-school classes compared to our Nancy Pelosi or Maxine Waters or Jerry “which-way-did-they-go” Brown or Hollyweird or University of (Commie) California or Ninth Circuit Court of (un-American) Appeals or the rest of the commisar asses. The only place remotely worse than our cowards and cannibals is Chicago — the New American Venezuela (NAV).

    I smell war in the air . . . .

Where can we go to access the growing national database of anti-America and un-American pukes? Traitors should be held to strict “drawing and quartering” standards.

Very interesting, Even the most liberal state can’t put up the same percentages as the # ten most conservative. Also, California didn’t even make the top ten on the liberal list, nor did Illinois. Both examples of of mostly conservative states that are ruled over by dense city populations that do not speak for the rest of the population. By those statistics it should be virtually impossible for the Dems to win anything but local elections.
Also of note… The lower percentages of the left are indicative of the fact that while blacks almost invariably vote Dem’, they don’t usually see themselves as liberals or conform to liberal philosophies. The truth is that they generally vote for the party that they believe supports them and stands behind them. Make all the negative remarks that we want but the truth is that blacks would prefer good jobs to welfare the same as any other human being. The problem is that libs will guarantee them a fat welfare check and a safety net and tell them that they care about them so much. The conservatives promise them improved chances for good jobs and a better economy with lower taxes, but no guarantees. Top that with the fact that they have been taught since they could walk and talk that we are all old white racists that hate the poor and want to keep them down so that we can get richer (hint… the lower economy hurts us all and your prosperity helps the prosperity of the rich as well).
Lord help the libs when the light of truth shines on

I never would have thought that white middle class voters would ever devolve into the “Heck with it let’s just stay at home on voting day” crowd. You get what you vote for. Those brave souls in Egypt have watched as the goverment they brought down has been replaced by a Muslim Brotherhood voted in by the uneducated masses majority population that believes in death to gays, jews and christians. Naturally Obama can’t give them jets and tanks fast enough. The Tea Pary has become a fringe. And the democrats will use immigration to destroy it. We had one election to make a difference, and the majority stayed home. Barking on this website will never change that fact.

I’ll wager the TRUTH is “democrat to republican” and NOT “conservative to liberal.”

The leftist democrat party and leftist republican party (and their party/state-run media) are forever DIVIDING THE SHEEP to make them easier to lead. They do this with DAILY propaganda about how “divided” the nation is. But ask yourself… what EXACTLY is “conservative” and what EXACTLY is “liberal?”

Let us not forget the PRE-co-opted Tea Party grievances and OWS grievances… WEREN’T THAT DIFFERENT.

you GOT to unpack that last, WinBro. The Occupods are all about the Redistribution of Wealth, the Pre-TEA (Taxed Enough Already) as you put it, was all about Keeping Your Own Money. I would see those as Polar Opposites not compatible grievances.
But if you got insight into the Foundations of both movements that resolves that apparent cognitive dissonance, fire away.
I concur there is little difference between the Inside the Beltlooper Ruling Class Aristos of the Repubelickums and the Dumbolcraps. But I would not equate “Conservative” with GOP like I would make Commiequeer (my semantically accurate usage for the “terminological inexactitudes” “liberal” “left” “progressives”) coterminous with Dumbolcrap.

That’s why I don’t see the Overlap with TEA and OccuPods. TEA DIS-empowerd DC’s Ruling Aristos inside the Beltloop, The Occupods NEED a Dictatorial DC in order to Redistribute Wealth.
