‘I Believe in Roe v. Wade’: Geraldo Rivera Confirms Possible GOP Senate Run — But Warns of His Liberal Social Views
Fox News host Geraldo Rivera shocked political observers on Thursday when he announced on his radio show that he’s considering a potential Senate run in New Jersey. On Friday morning, he followed up on this bombshell with an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” where he outlined his vision for the Republican Party and commented further on his potential candidacy.
As TheBlaze previously reported, Rivera might run on the GOP ticket, likely against eitherΒ Democratic Sen. Frank Lautenberg or Newark Mayor Cory Booker. The television host and commentator confirmed that he “very well may” seek office and that he still has some time to decide. If he does seek the Senate, Rivera will need to leave his on-air position at Fox.
During his Fox interview with Gretchen Carlson and Steve Doocey, the potential Republican contender took some time to deliver what, by many accounts, sounded like a stump speech. Outlining his vision for the GOP, Rivera also tackled some essential issues he’s passionate about.

Fox News’ Geraldo Rivera (Photo Credit: Fox News)
“I really doΒ believeΒ as a modern Republican that there is a point of view that isΒ unrepresentedΒ in states like New Jersey,” he proclaimed. “There can be a new vitilization of the Republican Party — a concept where we extol the virtues of good business and fiscalΒ policyΒ and we fight the deficit and we don’t advocate theΒ printingΒ of money inΒ obsceneΒ amounts just to cover our debts. We have to rein in entitlements.”
Geraldo was also candid about his less-than-traditional GOP views on social issues. He noted his penchant for immigration reform, his embrace of “gay rights and gay marriage” and, perhaps most flammable, his views on abortion.
“I believe in choice — notΒ obscenelyΒ – but I believe in Roe v. Wade,” he noted. “So you have to take my fiscal positions on being a Republican who believes that we have to bail out future generations rather than in-debt futureΒ generationsΒ – with some of these social policies that aren’t in sync with much of traditional GOP politics, at least in recent years.”

You don’t strike me as a useless, fill-a-chair type of legislator; Roe vs. Wade was nothing more than a politicization of the court, and a usurpation of the role of the Legislature.
Do you want to be inconsequential? Then stand back and let the courts have at ALL the Legislation in this nation!
If you are that careless of the role of a Representative, please STAY OUT OF CONGRESS!!!
We have enough lazy cowards there already!

Posted on February 1, 2013 at 10:40amGeraldo was TRYING to sound like what a conservative candidate should say…
i’m for reasonable choice not because it’s morally right, but it’s not the Federal government’s duty to control, and certainly isn’t the duty to pay for…
in short, i’m for small government, so while many social issues exist with which i don’t agree, it’s not the scope of the federal government to control or regulate it.
sadly, he forgot about pointing out the many things government has taken over… education, health care to name two, that need to be cut loose.
and i remember too well his vehement defense of the administration over the debalce that was Benghazi, repeating lies and denying the facts that had been released to the media.
I’m glad he won’t be running where i live… it would be a choice between a democratic and a neodemocratic RINO candidate, meaning no choice at all.
then again, he’d HAVE to be better than Franken, and we would stop seeing him in the news every week…

Posted on February 1, 2013 at 11:06amYou make a very good point. I think there is a huge difference between being morally opposed to something and wanting the government to ban or control it. Want to stop abortions? Figuring out how to slow down unwanted pregnancies and strengthen adoption services would be a good start. Those are two areas where I think church outreach programs could be very effective and all privately funded through un-taxed non-profits. Oh, and don’t get anyone pregnant unless you want to raise a kid.

Posted on February 1, 2013 at 11:29amRoe v Wade is wrong because it takes the power away from the states and gives it to Washington. Each state should be allowed to decide whether abortion is allowed or not. There is no constitutional right to have an abortion.
