Leaked Draft of Climate Report Shows U.N. Conceding Solar Activity May Play Significant Role in Global Warming

Leaked Draft of Climate Report Shows U.N. Conceding Solar Activity May Play Large Role in Global Warming

In addition to revealing evidence of two decades of overestimated global warming, the recently leaked draft of a future U.N. report on climate change indicates that solar activity may play a larger role in global warming than previously thought.

The assertion that the vast majority of global warming is the result of man-man greenhouse gas emissions as opposed to natural causes has been a hotly debated issue.

“[Results] do suggest the possibility of a much larger impact of solar variations on the stratosphere than previously thought, and some studies have suggested that this may lead to significant regional impacts on climate,†reads a draft copy of the report put together by the U.N.’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC).

Fox News identified the man who leaked the report at StopGreenSuicide blogger Alec Rawls. He told FoxNews.com that the discoveries about solar activity were his main motivation for the doc leak.

“The public needs to know now how the main premises and conclusions of the IPCC story line have been undercut by the IPCC itself,†Rawls wrote on his website in December.

More from FoxNews.com’s conversation with Rawls:

Rawls blames the U.N. for burying its point about the effect of the sun in Chapter 11 of the report.

“Even after the IPCC acknowledges extensive evidence for … solar forcing beyond what they included in their models, they still make no attempt to account for this omission in their predictions. … It’s insane,†he told FoxNews.com.

Some skeptical climatologists say that the statement in the U.N. draft report is important, but not game-changing.
“The solar component is real but not of sufficient magnitude to have driven most of the warming of the late 20th century,†Pat

Michaels, the former president of the American Association of State Climatologists, and current director of the Center for the Study of Science at the Cato Institute, told FoxNews.com.

Climate change activists though say this is just a “trick” put forth by “climate contrarians.”

“I see climate contrarians try this trick almost every time a big new solar study comes out. They somehow tend to neglect mentioning that solar variation is smaller than the heat-trapping power of carbon dioxide,†Aaron Huertas of the Union of Concerned Scientists told FoxNews.com.

“The basic evidence is that solar activity has varied a bit while global temperature keeps going up,†he added.

Meanwhile, Rawls argues that solar activity remains at a historically high level, enough to continue warming the earth without an increase in activity.

“The simplest way to put it is: If you put a pot on the stove at the maximum temperature, and leave it on at that temperature — are you telling me that the pot won’t keep warming?â€

I grew up on a glacier lake in Indiana. Had global warming not existed it wouldn’t have been a lake but a giant piece of ice. I’ve known since cognition that global warming was and is real; and I thank God for it else I would be freezing my butt off and I hate the cold which why I now live in Florida.

Now the reason for global warming… Well, that glacier lake I grew up on melted thousands of years before man created fire, let alone the ability to systematically control explosions with a combustion engine so I think the sun must at least be a big if not biggest factor…

Evidently that’s not common sense, as common sense these days revolves around the illogical arguments and logical arguments are part of the uncommon sense.

And it’s our “scientific” leaders like Al Gore pushing this non-sense. Leftist environmental scientists are to science what pedophile priests are to the Catholic church… An embarrassment that their institutions are trying to cover for; and they both give their institutions a very despicable reputation.

      Keaton,

Your complete lack of any trace of logical reasoning ability just lights my _ _ _ _.

Who the hell do you think “caused” the warming that prompted the retreat of the glaciers across the face of North America as they carved-out the Great Lakes. You HAVE heard of the Great Lakes, haven’t you, Keaton? How did your liberal, grade school science teachers explain their presence?

I keep suggesting that you take some courses at your local community college. Begin slowly with elementary logic. Build from there and then appear in public using simple sentences: subject, verb and object. You CAN be saved. Don’t give-up on yourself.

So how do we stop that nasty sun from causing all our weather problems? The arrogance of man who can believe that on a planet that has survived for +4 billion years is that we can destroy it in a 100yrs with fossil fuels. Climate change, sure but man is not going to cause it, (maybe nuclear winter?).

      @Keaton,

Global Warming or Climate Change is the religion of the left.

The debate for me is very easy – my local meteorologists will get the weather incorrect next week as they always do. Trying to predict the outcome of weather in 20 or 30 years is impossible – trending cannot be accurately done because of the multitude of variables. Trending itself is very unreliable in all sciences.

The Email-Gate Scandal was very telling how the Climate Change community, scientists and the like want to open their data to the world. Science, by its very nature is about testing hard data – letting other scientists test the data. Yet in our ever increasing political climate, science has become political ie pseudo. Good science is science that can be tested, over and over again by different scientists – however the climate scientists groups work behind closed doors and keep their hard data close to them. Keep those state-sponsored grants uh-coming!

Global Warming or Climate Change – these ideas are genius from a “central planning” perspective because they are the perfect crisis, but are utter nonsense in reality. Perfect crisis being the time at which governments can make drastic change in taxation and control.

Global Warming and Climate Change are lies.

You can have all the cold food and drink you want. You will either be convinced that the sun is the primary drier of climate or you will die of hypothermia or heat stroke.

Just look up solar cycles. Very interesting. Yes, Earth heats up when there is a solar flare. For you democrats… If you are standing next to a fire, and a big flaring spark pops out and hits you, you are necessarily hotter than when you weren’t being hit by a big flaring spark. If this occurs over and over, you may heat up considerably. There is a direct correspondence between solar flares and spikes in the earth’s “temperature”.
As far as humans being able to influence the planet…try not mowing your grass for a summer and see how insignificant the power of the Earth is. We are insignificant. Not the planet. Amazing how powerful liberals feel. Just like God, only with no sense of reality or ethics.

Look up the approaching Gleissberg Minimum. 2030. It’s going to get colder. While you’re at it look up the Beer-Lambert Gas Law: As the concentration of a gas increases it’s ability to absorb light decreases exponentially. CO2 reached 90% absorption of infrared radiation at about 250 ppm. 500 ppm would mean an increase of .9% more absorption of infrared radiation.

Global cooling has always been much more severe. Civilization has always thrived during periods of global warming. Civilization has always had more disease, mass starvation and increased conflict during global cooling.

To answer the last question posed in the article, if your pot is full of water (or some water-based food, the answer is “no”, it will not keep warming. Once it reaches the boiling point, the temperature will remain at about 100 C, even if you keep adding heat, as the liquid boils away. So, who’s to say that maybe, just maybe, our planet has self-correcting mechanisms built in to handle the periodic rises and falls of atmospheric temperature. Long term data seems to suggest this is true.

The temperature of the hypothetical pot will keep rising until it matches the temperature of the stove element, and I think the scientist knows that.

The larger point he was making was that solar activity is at an historic high, and if nothing else changed, the planets would continue to get hotter because of that. By the way, that is a very good thing, and we should do everything we can to increase the global temperature. God help us if there is another Ice Age,” little” or otherwise.
