Local News Station’s Shockingly Insensitive Facebook Post About a Dead Soldier
An NBC affiliate serving the Dallas-Fort Worth area apologized Friday for penning an extremely insensitive Facebook post about a Fort Hood soldier’s tragic death.
“BOOops,” the post began, jokingly referring to a Fort Hood soldier who accidentally shot and killed a fellow solider after he tried to cure him of hiccups by “scaring him.”
“A Fort Hood solider was fatally shot after his friend tried to cure him of hiccups by scaring him with a loaded gun. The shooter has pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter,” the post read.
Following the story description, the affiliate then asked readers to “SHARE your best solution for getting rid of hiccups below!” Pictured directly underneath was the barrel of a handgun.
Unsurprisingly, the post infuriated many Facebook users.
““It’s not funny to make a joke about someone’s death. Especially a young soldier who died because of a stupid, stupid prank,” one Facebook user wrote.
A “tipster” reportedly told TVSpy that the post was up for 40 minutes before the swift outrage caused the local station to remove it. The station then issued an apology for its “error in judgment.”

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 5:39pmPeople, all you have to realize is this. Have you noticed the dramatic increase in stories involving guns and gun violence involving anybody but the usual welfare bums? It’s a plan by the media to help Barry a advance his anti-gun agenda. Why is no one in the media talking about all the killings in the BLACK communities? Why, all of a sudden all the stories about the crimenal use of guns, but nothing about the legal use, like the woman in Georgia? They happen ALOT more then we hear about but we are constantly blasted by the bad….any thoughts on that one, keatonc333? Why no connection made to welfare recipiants and gun violence? It’s actually worse than that. There is NO coverage of gun violence in the welfare gettos, why? Why is it that the most violent neighborhoods have the highest number of welfare bums? Or maybe I missed the story about all the gang and drug related shootings happening in Beverly Hills or Brentwood? Oh, that’s right all those white boys are down in the ‘hood selling crack to the grade school kids and knockin’ up all the black teen girls…..

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 11:44amWhat has happened to peoples empathy anymore. I think we have created a nation of unfeeling narcissists that think of no one but themselves. Hollywood, reporters, elected officials, teachers, police officers, the list goes on and on. The worst of all are those that are supposed to be looking up to that list above. It is as if the entire nation is playing a video game and you can say and do what ever you want. If this is not one of the signs the Bible tells us is of the end times I can’t say what else would be. It does not matter what you believe, we are in for a rude future if we don’t stop the selfishness.

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 12:44pmYcan thank facebook, texting, twitter, etc, for a lot of it. We are hidden behind these in our lives, nothing face to face, no reaction to a face that reacts with shock, fear, sadness or anger, so who cares? I do not use any of those things except to look at grandkid pictures. Reason? I believe in the person to person voice thing and I think some of the technology is not making people or relationships better-at all, and the filter of thinking before you speak and looking in the eyes of a person is causing a cold, calculating, how smart-a.. can I be attitude. It may be convienient, but it makes bad attitudes worse. I can’t really say it has made us better as a people, and the adage of anything that can be used for great good can be used for great evil, comes clearly to mind.

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 8:06amSo, what we’re all saying is, if someone is in the military, they are better people than the rest of us. Why is it everyone goes gah-gah over these guys. Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad they serve and they deserve respect, etc., but they aren’t better, braver, or more deserving of respect or consideration than anyone else. I have a really hard time believing that people would be this offended at that FB post if this was a story of two idiots in Alabama living in a trailer park. In fact, there would probably be laughter and even more jokes posted here about it.
The guy didn’t die in action or during training, he died because he had a moron for a friend. While tragic, it’s also a story that is rife with gallows humor and the only thing in that post that reflects this is “BOOops”. On the whole, it’s hardly deserving of a mention here, let alone the furor it seems to be creating.
Maybe you can all go back to worshiping deities and quit worshiping people because of their occupation.

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 11:20amSorry, Melika, but when one joins the military, putting one’s life on the line to defend this country, willing to die for what they believe in then, yes, I believe they ARE finer people, deserving the respect of the general public.

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 6:16amAllforfreedom, It’s very apparent you know very little about the Army. The Army is no different that civilian life, everybody gets their share of fools. No amount of adult supervision can stop an idiot from being an idiot. You take one incident and then condemn an entire organization because of one stupid jerk. Typical response, blame the whole for one act by an idiot.

Posted on February 2, 2013 at 6:10amFolks…
Did you ever think America, Home of the Free because of the Brave,
would lower itself to disrespect toward our Veterans. Further, in another
post the Wounded Warrior Project refuses money because it’s raised under
a steeple. And in another post a veteran is forced to take down his small porch
flown American flag.
If this isn’t proof, even solid evidence, that America is gone I don’t know what is!
Worse, the three branches of American government are doing NOTHING toward these issues.
It’s over folks, Satan and his minions have won!

Posted on February 1, 2013 at 10:22pmThis crew at NBC, and MSNBC have no shame, or smarts. They are so ridiculous that even Al Sharpton is a talk show host. They might as well use barking dogs. Nobody over there is qualified to be on the air. Don’t tune in to their show even for a second or the Nelson Rating will count you for their ratings. they have no heart for our fighting forces. They are a bunch of pigs in plain English.

During a firearms safety training session my ship’s security personnel were going through, the safety instructor accidentally shot one of the students in the abdomen with his handgun. The guy was fine, but he was obviously extremely lucky.

I think Rush is right on this one, again.. These people shape policy boys and girls!! These idiot fools, shape policy that affects our lives!! This is embarrassing for us as a culture, an American culture, to, in any way, allow this kind of, ” media,” to influence the masses, and provide the people with propaganda, spin, and outright lies.
