Reddit users have helped raise more than $18,000 to buy new and better equipment for “kick ass mall cop” Darien Long after video of him using his Taser on an out of control mother went viral.

The incident that quickly garnered national attention occurred about eight months ago at Atlanta’s Metro Mall. It all began when Long, who is both the on-site manager and security guard at the mall, attempted to quiet a group of children who were making noise, prompting the kids’ mother to begin harassing and threatening him.

Long showed incredible patience and restraint as the mother and a number of other women berated him continuously. Even the young children eventually began mocking the security guard, calling him “gay.”

The mother who started the initial confrontation eventually assaulted Long, forcing him to use his Taser on the woman.

The entire ordeal was recorded on the camera on Long’s bulletproof vest. The video, posted on Reddit Tuesday, has since gone viral.

Long now has a formidable group of online supporters who are applauding his handling of the situation. The fundraising effort on crowdtilt.com will reportedly go towards purchasing Long better gear and equipment.

As of 11:59 p.m. ET on Friday, the Internet campaign had raisedΒ $18,571.53 — and it doesn’t expire for another 26 days.Β ”This campaign is verified by Crowdtilt (and they will disburse the funds directly to Darien),” the page says.

      Nope. It is how they are raised, and they are now teaching the next generation how to behave. You see them provoking the children to join in. When a human is caged and provided for like an animal, he looses all self respect for himself, and does not create or have purpose, he becomes nothing more than an animal. This is the horrors of welfare, and a glimpse into the future for America.

      They work very well actually. He just didn’t hold the trigger down. He could have held it down then cuffed her and taken her into custody. But, depending on company policy he might not have been able to…so he just zapped her and let her walk.

      Eventually, it will come down to a war between the snowman and the blacks. The Latinos are not stupid. They hate the blacks.       The hispanics are already sided with the whites. I am hispanic and half of my cousins are married to whites which means that I have many blood relatives that are half white. Most hispanics dont like blacks because they are obnoxious and lazy. There has been a war going on in L.A. between hispanics and blacks for years but the mainstream media doesnt report on it.

    All these yahoo’s on this and other related video’s think they are so tough, I will tell what is tough “DAWG”…striving every day for an education while also holding a job, to better your salary and conditions, getting up every day and doing it all over again, following instructions, falling in line, biting your tongue if it would get you fired, because you have children to support and set an example for! And you don’t depend on anyone else to do it because you are proud and take responsibility serious. That’s tougher than these foo birds! I survived the poor and empty conditions of my upbringing, these people are supposed to be seen as victims….right! Cowards or cop outs maybe!

      I was on my own at 15, managed to stay out of trouble, support myself, worked two jobs to pay my way through college. Did without, swallowed my pride, and cried a lot of tears to get through it.

      Look closer. He has a real gun on his right hip. Mace and nightstick on his left hip. The taser gun is in front middle of his vest, right under his camera lens. Plus he has handcuffs.
      This guy is well prepared, except his vest is too small. Not enough coverage. Hope the fundraiser money gets to him quick, so he can get that new vest.

    This is appalling! No human should act like these people do. “Showed great restraint” is an understatement. I worked security and I have to say the first time she touched me the taser would have come out. Zero tolerance..get to steppin’….He would be welcome in Texas by the way! Seems like a really good guy~ Great job!

      i too worked security for over 25 years. 95% of the time unarmed, no nightstick, no gun no walkie talkie, nothing. quite a few times in the ghetto areas. been shot once, and stabbed twice. when getting off work i sometimes had to walk a block or more to get to a specific bus route. have heard too many times to count from people like the *ahem* ladies in this video. “if you can’t kill a cop, kill a security guard. it’s just as good.”
      we had no way, nor rights(at the time Wisconsin was a no self defense state) to defend ourselves.
      we were tagets for every piece of crap out there. things didn’t change untill you guessed it a black security guard was killed. laws changed quick after that. which is why many are now legally referred to as security officers now instead of guards(hated that term as well as rent a cop). now laws in place to make it a felany for attacking a security officer(same offences as attacking any other LEO).

      blacks and hispanics have little to no respect for security officers. if i made a jugement that thier actions warrented your removal from the property, they would leave only to ambush me later after leaving the property. i am an advocate of all security officers being trained and carrying just like other LEOs do.

    This is good, I’m glad to see people supporting this guard considering all of the crud he has to deal with. I really wish these children would taken away from their ‘parents’, but sadly it won’t matter, those kids are ruined and unrecoverable and will most likely be thugs when they grow up (it’s sad, but it’s also a trend) as for the woman, all they are doing is reinforcing the very REAL stearotype*sp* that is common amongst blacks.

    This is NOT meant to say that all blacks act like this, I have a few black friends after all who were shaking their heads at this womans actions; however, even they attempted that the black culture has ‘degenerated’ and that unless more blacks wake up and realize it, there is not much that can be done.

    Maybe in the future more will wake up… but I doubt it sadly, not with it’s current leadership (Jesse Jackson) and groups like the NBPP constantly reinforcing the problems.

      They could use off duty. Then the liability issues arise. The tax payer has already payed for the off duty LE, that moonlights making cash/usually tax free money, while utilizing the equipment the tax payer has already paid for; weapon, radio, vehicle, uniform, badge, etc. Was he acting in the scope of LE or just mall cop, blah blah blah. I say pass out the disposable firearms and ammo and watch as the debt decreases per magazine expended on the lovely denizens of these fine urban locales.
