RIP Barney Bush: Former Presidents Dog Dies at 12

Former President George W. Bush on Friday announced that his faithful dog, Barney, had passed away at age 12 following his battle with lymphoma.

“Laura and I are sad to announce that our Scottish Terrier, Barney, has passed away. The little fellow had been suffering from lymphoma and after twelve and a half years of life, his body could not fight off the illness,” Bush wrote in a statement. “Barney and I enjoyed the outdoors. He loved to accompany me when I fished for bass at the ranch. He was a fierce armadillo hunter. At Camp David, his favorite activity was chasing golf balls on the chipping green.”

He went on: “Barney guarded the South Lawn entrance of the White House as if he were a Secret Service agent. He wandered the halls of the West Wing looking for treats from his many friends. He starred in Barney Cam and gave the American people Christmas tours of the White House. Barney greeted Queens, Heads of State, and Prime Ministers. He was always polite and never jumped in their laps.”

The former president said Barney was by his side during his two terms as president of the United States.

“He never discussed politics and was always a faithful friend. Laura and I will miss our pal,” Bush concluded.

Barney is survived by the Bush family’s other Scottish Terrier, Miss Beazley, Politico notes.

Such a sad day for the family. Their home will be different.. hearing and seeing him around every corner… it will take time for them to adjust to the changes. My thoughts and prayers go out to them while they adjust to this change in their home. He will be so missed I am sure.

I will give my 3 extra hugs and love in memory of Barney.

I am so sorry for your loss, Mr. and Mrs. Bush. It is terrible to loose a pet. Remember; all dogs (cats and other critters too) go to heaven!

  GONZO. You are very correct. Even though W had repeated warnings of an attack, Islamist terrorists still managed to kill 3000 on that horrible day. Bush killed thousands more after sending our troops to Iraq. Weapons of mass destruction anyone? Rock on and have a great weekend GONZO. I hope the weather is nice where your are. 12 isn’t very old for a dog of that size. Our medium size dog died at age 15 and would have lived longer but she couldn’t control her bladder anymore and she cried every time she went up and down the stairs so we had her put down.

  Well now Bo can’t help that his boss is an ass-wipe. That said, I’m sad for the Bush family because they made it clearly evident that Barney was part of the family. While it’s clear that Bo is just another politcal shill used by barry in an attempt to fit in with other presidents, I am hoping that there is some White House aide,chef, someone that is giving that dog love and attention. That is a conceited family and everything is just a “front”. Bo is an innocent pup. I hope someone gives him love not just photo ops.

Barney dies a peaceful death, no doubt with his master nearby.
Buddy, the Clinton’s dog, at the first opportunity to escape, throws himself under a bus rather than be further associated with the Clintons.
Oh, and Socks, the Clinton’s cat? Why as soon as the animal was no longer useful as a PR prop, it was given away.

  Dogs are really a gift from God. They assume that everybody loves them and they love everybody back. I hope there are dogs in heaven. I would rather have a good dog sometimes than a good friend because they are always showing their love to their owner. There isn’t ever a “bad day.”

I understand your grief Mr. President. It is hard to lose a good friend and companion. Remember the good times with your Barney.

I received this with the ashes of my own treasured Millie, my 10 year old best friend when I picked up her ashes just yesterday………..
